desktop environment and UI element you are using? perhaps a screenshot

[Bug 2081815] Re: nautilus crashes with mouse- or pad action

2024-09-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 2081619] Re: Nautilus segmentation fault when opening - Ubuntu 24

2024-09-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher

If several applications have the issue then nautilus is probably the

How do you enable the dark mode? Do you have applications which behave

after restarting the session?

[Bug 2078511] Re: Unable to reduce column width for file NAME in nautilus

2024-09-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. What would you expect the right behaviour
to be? The layout is built by assigning their width to the columns on
the right and then using the available free space for the names. If each
column width was matching the content then there would be some
empty/white space on the right of the view, also navigating between
folders the geometry would change according to the content/filenames in
the directory

Could you also perhaps make your design suggestion directly upstream on
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues ?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using

[Bug 2072970] Re: Ubuntu settings (gnome control center) does not open.

2024-07-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 2072772] [NEW] The package is build without malcontent

2024-07-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

* Impact

The package is currently built with malcontent disabled because the
package was in universe.

The corresponding MIR is now approved, including for Noble (lp:
#1892456). The package got promoted in Oracular already.

The malcontent library is needed to provide parental control integration
with something OEM partners need (new regulations make the feature
mandatory to sell new devices in France starting this summer, other
countries are following)

* Test case

- log as an admin user
- install malcontent-gui (we don't plan to install it by default due to depends
issues but oem will)
- create another non admin user (if there isn't already one existing)
- start gnome-control-center
- switcht to the users panel
- select the other users in the right pane

-> a 'parental control' entry should be displayed

* Regression potential

The option is just display an entry to start the malcontent-gui
interface. A problem would only impact the users panel, if the patch was
wrong it could be impact on the layout of that page or showing that item
when it shouldn't

* Other information

We will need to promote the malcontent source and libmalcontent-0-0
binary. Since we can't promote things in release it means we will need
to coordinate with an archive admin to copy the package in noble-updates
and promote it there

[Bug 2072742] Re: [SRU] Backport gnome-calendar 46.1

2024-07-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks Nathan, I've done those tweaks

- set the revision to 0ubuntu1, -1 was already used in Oracular
- added the bug number reference to the changelog
- removed an extra space between the uploader email and update timestamp which
was making dch complain about a parsing error

it's uploaded to the Noble review queue now

[Bug 2059859] Re: pam_env(sshd:session): deprecated reading of user environment enabled

2024-07-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks Andreas for ping us about the issue. We have work to do there on
the desktop side since language-selector is currently relying on that
feature

Some reference
/usr/share/language-tools/save-to-pam-env provided by
https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/accountsservice/tree/debian/patches/0009-language-tools.patch?h=ubuntu/oracular

selector/tree/LanguageSelector/LocaleInfo.py?h=ubuntu/oracular#n231

https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-
team/gdm/-/blob/ubuntu/latest/debian/patches/ubuntu/dont_set_language_env.patch

We need to investigate what to do instead, I will put that on the
desktop backlog

[Bug 1892456] Re: [MIR] malcontent

2024-07-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
We would like to see the package also promoted in Noble, could the MIR
give their opinion on the request?

The version in Noble is 0.11.1 (vs 0.12.0 which was promoted in
Oracular). The security review was done on 0.10.0 so doesn't rely on
changes from 0.12.

The 0.12 update doesn't include changes that should make a difference on
the review outcome in my opinion but I'm still attaching the debdiff for
MIR team consideration (there are a bunch of fixes but also strings
changed which make unpratical to try to SRU that version to Noble)
