[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2019-02-25 Thread Serge Wagener
I switched from gnome-shell to elementary-desktop while waiting for a
solution, and the problem disappeared.

So it is really a gnome-shell (or extension or whatever) problem.

To mention: I have the EXACT same beheaviour as the OP, meaning the
mouse clicks are not working INSIDE the open windows. But i can still
click on items in the Activities screen and the top-bar and still type
into already-active textboxes in windows.

I think comments from some people here seem more like a general mouse-
click not working problem. Not really sure if these are two different
issues or not ...

As i can see it seems a confirmed gnome-shell bug and upstream is
working on it: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=762193

+1, exact same problem.

Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS, latest updates / upgrades as of today.
DELL XPS 13 9350

Problem started immediately after upgrading to 18.04

logout / login workaround does the trick, but problem comes back every
half an hour or so. So Ubuntu not usable on my beloved notebook :-(

[Bug 1753525] Re: Wacom tablet not recognized in Settings > Devices

2018-09-06 Thread Serge Gavrilov
This is definitely not a ubuntu specific bug.

With

056a:00d1 Wacom Co., Ltd Bamboo Pen & Touch (CTH-460-DE)
056a:00d1 Wacom Co., Ltd Bamboo Pen & Touch (CTH-460-DE)

it reproducible also with Gentoo ~amd64 (based on gnome 3.24) as well as
18.04.

At the same time I have Lenovo Yoga 2nd gen laptop with integrated wacom
device and the stylus is recognizable there (with 18.04).

It looks like this is a linuxwacom bug related with some models of
tablets.

[Bug 1574566] Re: package libvirt-bin 1.3.1-1ubuntu10 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-04-25 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks, but actually the systemd.service(5) manpage tells me what I
needed.

The fix for you should be to edit your /lib/systemd/system/libvirt-
bin.service file to read:

[Unit]
Description=Virtualization daemon
Before=libvirt-guests.service
After=network.target
After=dbus.service
After=iscsid.service
After=apparmor.service
After=local-fs.target
After=remote-fs.target
Documentation=man:libvirtd(8)
Documentation=http://libvirt.org

[Service]
Type=notify
EnvironmentFile=-/etc/default/libvirt-bin
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/libvirtd $libvirtd_opts
ExecReload=/bin/kill -HUP $MAINPID
KillMode=process
Restart=on-failure
LimitNOFILE=infinity
LimitNPROC=infinity
TasksMax=infinity
NotifyAccess=all

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
Also=virtlockd.socket
Also=virtlogd.socket

In other words, just add the
NotifyAccess=all
line in the second section.

I'll push that to the 16.10 package and SRU the change to wily and
xenial.

Thanks!

I can reproduce this 100% on serverstack (openstack) instances. I

What appears to be happening is that lxd starts lxd-bridge which creates
lxdbr0 with no ipv4 address; this racily happens before systemd does
its networking setup; said network setup then sees lxdbr0 and wants to
configure it, so waits for it to have an ip address. Plausible?

[Bug 1533833] Re: unprivileged lxc containers won't start

2016-01-13 Thread Serge Hallyn
You're using a newer kernel which provides the 'pids' cgroup. Systemd doesn't
know about that one and so doesn't create a cgroup for you that you own. Lxc
in turn (in wily) doesn't yet know how to handle that.

You can work around this several ways. The simplest is to do

sudo cgm create pids user
sudo cgm chown pids user $(id -u) $(id -g)
cgm movepid pids user $$

before you start the container.

[Bug 1467611] Re: unprivileged lxc containers broken

2015-06-25 Thread Serge Hallyn
The cgmanager log shows:

Invalid path /run/cgmanager/fs/none,name=systemd/system.slice/lsh-
server.service/lxc/asterisk

How are you logged in when you try to start the container?

To start an unprivileged container, you must be logged into a regular
user session, so /proc/self/cgroup should look something like:

10:memory:/user.slice/user-1000.slice/session-c2.scope
9:perf_event:/user.slice/user-1000.slice/session-c2.scope
8:cpu,cpuacct:/user.slice/user-1000.slice/session-c2.scope
7:cpuset:/user.slice/user-1000.slice/session-c2.scope
6:net_cls,net_prio:/user.slice/user-1000.slice/session-c2.scope
5:blkio:/user.slice/user-1000.slice/session-c2.scope
4:hugetlb:/user.slice/user-1000.slice/session-c2.scope
3:devices:/user.slice/user-1000.slice/session-c2.scope
2:freezer:/user.slice/user-1000.slice/session-c2.scope
1:name=systemd:/user.slice/user-1000.slice/session-c2.scope

Instead you seem to be in /system.slice/lsh-server.service, which
you do not own. So as an unprivileged user you cannot create
new cgroups for yourself, which is why lxc is failing.

- lxc_cgmanager_enter: 694 call to cgmanager_move_pid_sync failed: invalid
requestUser container fails to start:
+ login name=systemd cgroup is not owned by user

** Description changed:

+ When a user logs in, systemd-logind should create cgroups for the user,
+ with the directory (i.e. /user.slice/user-1000.slice/session-c2.scope)
+ and the tasks and cgroup.procs files (but no othes) owned by the user.
+ This is no longer hapening for the name=systemd cgroup. This prevents
+ containers from starting. (If lxc were to simply not create/use that
+ controller, then it would prevent system in the container from using
+ it).
+
  I wanted to test the new lxc with lxcfs. A system container (with
  upstart or systemd) works perfectly well now (great!), but user
  containers regressed:

  $ lxc-create -n v1 -t download -- -d ubuntu -r vivid -a amd64
- $ lxc-start -n v1  -F
+ $ lxc-start -n v1  -F
  lxc-start: cgmanager.c: lxc_cgmanager_enter: 694 call to
cgmanager_move_pid_sync failed: invalid request
  lxc-start: start.c: __lxc_start: 1099 failed to spawn 'v1'
  lxc-start: lxc_start.c: main: 345 The container failed to start.

  My host is running systemd, but cgmanager is running (i. e. it's not bug
  1400394, I enabled cgmanager.service).

[Bug 1355966] [NEW] Implement AbandonScope (etc)

2014-08-12 Thread Serge Hallyn
Public bug reported:

Currently, logout produces the following error in upstart systems:

systemd-logind[15351]: Failed to abandon scope session-c7.scope
systemd-logind[15351]: Failed to abandon session scope: No such interface
'org.freedesktop.systemd1.Scope' on object at path
/org/freedesktop/systemd1/unit/session_2dc7_2escope

Whlie the cgroup is being autoremoved when empty, the more important
bug is that StopSession won't forcibly kill the cgroup. These methods
should be added at some point.

The variable JoinControllers in /etc/systemd/system.cofn should include
net_cls. Otherwise when newer kernel is used in trusty, users will not
by default be able to use unprivileged containers.

Now that's odd. This certainly seemed to be fixed in utopic, but
after a quick dist-upgrade from a trusty host net_cls in fact
does not appear to be there. So I think you're right - thanks!

It turns out the write() is not a part of the dbus transaction with

This is happening in this part of nih/main.c:

 * event that potentially needs immediate processing, or because some
 * condition of the main loop has been changed.

nih_main_loop_interrupt (void)
{
nih_main_loop_init ();

if (interrupt_pipe[1] != -1)
while (write (interrupt_pipe[1], , 1)  0)
;
}

Why the interrupt_pipe[0] woudl be closed is beyond me.

A simple fix would be to add a check for errno == EAGAIN in the while
loop to avoid this condition. However, we should figure out why this is
happening and hopefully we can prevent it happening at all.

[Bug 1245926] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to Alt+Shift

2014-02-09 Thread Serge
I confirm that as stated above, I CAN set language switch to ALT SHIFT L and
WORKS like it shoud TILL THE NEXT LOG IN.
After the next log in ALT+SHIFT stops working, but SHIFT+ALT( Shift first)
works.

using 13.10 x64 on over 5 machines, all are updated regulargly from official
repos, all are affected, the behaviour is just the same.
If you set combination again to be ALT+SHIFT then it works again till the next
log in.

2014-02-09 Thread Serge
I confirm that this affects 13.10, I have over 5 machines confirming
this bug.

One addition - in 13.10 ALt +Shift does work till the next log in, it stops
working after you login next time and you have to press Shift first.
but if you set it again in settings then it will work till another log in.

[Bug 995817] Re: share samba doesn't work easily

2012-05-30 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hi J-Paul,

I'm pretty sure you are right and system-config-samba should not be
needed. You were trying to share files through nautilus which should do
it itself. If I'm wrong about that and it cannot, then it should be
automatically installing it. In either case, I'll re-target this bug at
nautilus.

   Serious keyboard problems with Ubuntu 10.10

   I changed my keyboard, now I need to change the layout from Italy to
   Switzerland French.

   I opened gnome-terminal, then typed sudo gnome-keyboard-properties,
 went to Layout tab, added the new layout, moved it up, pressed Apply to
 whole systemand clicked on Close. The result is as expected:
   1. Switzerland French
   2. Italy

   Everything worked fine till I reboot. After reboot the layout returned from
 Switzerland French to Italy, so I went again to
 gnome-keyboard-properties, and the result was:
   1. Italy
   2. Switzerland French

   At this point I thought, why keeping the old layout, so after moving
   up Switzerland French to the top (again), I deleted the Italy
   layout, and to be sure I applied it to the whole system, closed it,
   then I tried it in gedit (everything was fine the right layout is
   active), finally I thought let's check it out another time (just the
   layout I need was in the list of gnome-keyboard-properties) and
   reboot the system.

   After the second reboot the Italy layout showed up again on top:
   1. Italy
   2. Switzerland French
   and the wrong layout was active once again.

   I had this problem also on Ubuntu 8.04 two years back. Can anybody tell me
 where I can correct this, or at lease give me hint??? Last time I reinstalled
 Ubuntu, because nobody had an answer to this problem, which is still not
 corrected.
   Can anybody tell me where to find those source and config files, I will try
 to fix this.

   Thank you and best regards.

[Bug 293832] Re: printer prints page at wrong position, page cut

2009-10-30 Thread Serge van Ginderachter
OK, this bug regressed for me after upgrading to Karmic.
I still had the script (pdftops) mentioned earlier in this bug report, using
dpkg-divert
I removed the divert and restored the pdftops.real, but no difference.

I checked the tools on
http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/download_prn.html as to find
the brprintconf util, but those packages are all i386 and I'm running
amd64...

Am I missing yet another solution?

On a side note, I fail to understand the Real Underlying Problem -
getting a little annoyed about a bug that comes, goes and regresses over
the last 3 releases - what can I do to get this sorted out definitively?

[Bug 450694] [NEW] There is no Reminders list view as in MS Outlook

2009-10-13 Thread Serge Stroobandt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Request for improvement:
A lot of people are missing the following MS Outlook standard behaviour when
dealing with calendar Reminders.
When you close a reminder popup window it is snoozed until you reopen calendar
upon which the due/overdue Reminders list is shown. You do not need to specify
a snooze time lapse.
Due/overdue reminders remain reachable however, with a due date and overdue

[Bug 295698] [NEW] rhythmbox: crash on clicking Ban or Love on last.fm radio

2008-11-08 Thread Serge Fukanchik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox always crash when i select Last.fm plugin, select Neighbour
Radio, select Play, and after that press either Ban or Love button
on toolbar.

I built libaudioscrobbler.so with debug info, and here is stack trace:

#0  0x7fda4c43c6b0 in strlen () from /lib/libc.so.6
#1  0x7fda3f00ca04 in handle_xmlrpc_response (source=value optimized out,
body=0x0, entry=0x1def5c0) at rb-lastfm-source.c:2297
#2  0x7fda3f00ac1c in http_response_cb (session=value optimized out,
req=value optimized out, user_data=value optimized out)
at rb-lastfm-source.c:1478
#3  0x7fda54e2c696 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libsoup-2.4.so.1
#4  0x7fda4d9d625d in g_closure_invoke () from /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0
#5  0x7fda4d9ec46e in ?? () from /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0
#6  0x7fda4d9ed608 in g_signal_emit_valist () from
/usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0

Seems in http_response_cb body is set to NULL, but handle_response
doesn't expect NULL here.

I have
Ubuntu AMD 64 release 8.10;
Rhythmbox 0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4.1;
I expect not to crash, but send my vote about currently playing sond, or see
some error probably if server misresponses;
Instead rhytmbox just crashes.

triggered all that is needed.

[Bug 223131] Re: Gnome Desktop : Long delai before logoff menu

2008-05-05 Thread Serge Maneuf
The issue seems also to disappear when Gnome Power Manager is checked in the
session options inside the System / Preferences Menu.
So this bugg looks like a duplication of #138811 #123078

[Bug 223131] Re: Gnome Desktop : Long delai before logoff menu

2008-05-01 Thread Serge Maneuf
The issue here doesn't seem to be linked to GPM but to my webcam driver.
Reboot is immediate if I use the command : gnome-power-cmd.sh reboot
The long delai is between the command quit ( from the menu system or from the
button on the toolbar ) and the pop-up of the menu which allow to select
following action ( quit , reboot, change user ... ).
There is no more delai if :
-) I load and unload the webcam driver ( quickcam recompiled for logitech qui
kacam messengerID 046d:08f6 )
-) I disconnect reconnect the webcam ( which induced the loading of the
driver )
Is there a way to track more deeper where the problem is ?

[Bug 223131] Re: Gnome Desktop : Long delai before logoff menu

2008-05-01 Thread Serge Maneuf
The issue seems also linked to compiz.
It arrived that the delai disapears when I stop restart compiz.
But as yngwie wrote, it is erratic.

Installed with Tribe-2, the problem was there. I re-installed with
Tribe-3 and it the problem seems to have been fixed.

Thanks

[Bug 123078] Re: System - Quit takes a long time to appear

2007-07-09 Thread Serge
Also nm-applet and gnome-power-manager icons take a while to appear

The splash screen waits on gnome-volume-manager.

Changing the start order of /usr/lib/evolution/2.12/evolution-alarm-
notify to 60 (previous value = 50) fixes the problem: All items in the
session start promptly.

This is for gutsy with all updates applied at time of writing.

** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu)
Sourcepackagename: None = gnome-session

I get the same behaviour. I also think it is a crash on shutdown, as I
only get a crash report whilst Gaim still is running.
