[Bug 1697730] [NEW] Long boot time due to systemd-networkd-wait-online.service failure

2017-06-13 Thread Stefan Bader

[Bug 1342094] Re: Audio extraction into mp3 ignores profiles

2014-07-15 Thread Stefan Bader
Reading that file it looks like I would be unsure again whether it is a
"problem with the interface" or "other". Though both options seem to
keep the bug reported against rhythmbox. So in doubt I ran apport-
collect and selected "other".

Testcase: Using rhythmbox to extract audio tracks from a audio CD into
the library as mp3. The GUI shows several profiles (default, ubuntu,
  vbr, cbr).

- Regardless of the profile, this always produces VBR encoded MP3 files
- which also lack Xing header information which will lead to incorrect
- runtime display on some players. I believe the problem lies in the
- gstreamer filters used and rhythmbox is just one of the applications
- affected. The problem exists for quite a while now, though older
- releases would sometime not even have any profiles selectable in the

[Bug 1342094] Re: Audio extraction into mp3 ignores profiles

2014-07-15 Thread Stefan Bader
Setting package to rhythmbox to have a starting point. It probably is
wrong and should be some part of the gstreamer set. But I don't know
which one.

[Bug 1272312] [NEW] [Trusty] Auto-download dialog does not find current mp3 plugins

2014-01-24 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

After a fresh install, adding any source that is in mp3 encoding, the
dialog that offers to download the plugin will fail to find it. Manually
installing gstreamer1.0-fluendo-mp3 does make mp3 sources play.

[Bug 1170023] [NEW] [Regression] Rhythmbox does not play m3u link

2013-04-17 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

In Raring, the following link (http://mp3-live.swr3.de/swr3_m.m3u) added
as a radio station will show "(paused)" in the title as soon as playback
is pressed (32bit and 64bit). This did work at least back in Precise.

[Bug 950717] [NEW] rhythmbox: Problems when unpausing a daapd source after long pause

2012-03-09 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

I find that the following scenario gives weird behaviour:

1. music files are on another host running forked-daapd (precise)
2. daapd source added locally to rhythmbox and playing
3. pause playback (indicator or application)
4. wait (not sure about the minimum here, about 1 hour?)
5. resume playback

I had various effects here:
- playback resumes for the current song, then stops about the end. Interface
still
looks like playing (pause icon display in the app)
  - In order to revive playback, I pressed pause and playback.. Then suddenly
there was
a search running to get a html/text plugin. After that failed any song I
try to start
will get the invalid marker (one way sign).
- playback resumes for a short time, then suddenly another song is tried to
start and
another one, and so on in rapid succession. At some point rhythmbox crashed
but
that time I did not have the debug packages installed.

Feels like after a while forked-daapd may reset the connection and
present a text error message which is not handled.

Re: [Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy

2009-11-30 Thread Stefan Bader
Understood. The problem with this report was (iirc) that it
was sort of old and had a lot of different things mixed.
If you could just open a new bug with "ubuntu-bug linux",
then say in the description that the same (preferably Karmic)
kernel sources with just different configs show the problem
or not. Attach the config you used and subscribe me to that
bug. That would give a clean start.
Also with that kind of problems, it helps a lot to have a
detailed description of the physical layout of the drives on
the ata controller. How many drives on which port/controller.
Are they specially jumpered, how?
We had one case where a cdrom was jumpered slave, being the
only drive on one controller and the problem was solved just
by setting it to master.

Hopefully not only similar symptoms but different problem. I get updated
values for some time, but then devicekit-power-daemon stops reading from
the battery status files (verified with strace). It will get acpi events
when going from ac to dc and back. But the actual charge will only be
updated at that time. Directly reading from the acpi sysfs or proc
interface returns current values.

comments for a long time. Also there have been so many issues mixed that
it is near impossible to work with this report. If there are still
issues like this I would propose to open a new one and try to keep
different hardware separate.

[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy

2009-04-28 Thread Stefan Bader
Sorry about the long time without any response. I would like to get a picture
about how this issue stand in
a) Hardy and
b) Jaunty
Is this still an issue with the latest kernels of both series (please consider
to test Hardy-proposed as well if the current Hardy kernel in updates shows
problems)?

Unfortunately there also seem to be several issues mixed into this. From
possible application issues to kernel problems. Most of them sound as
being problems with libata. So as stated by some reporters for Hardy
"all_generic_ide" might be a solution. Since Intrepid there is a little
more control over libata through libata.force, eg. to force 40cable
conntections for decive ata1 one would specify "libata.force=1:40c".

New kernels are placed into the -proposed pocket. You get them by activating
the checkbox for proposed updates in the sofware sources.

[Bug 290506] Re: cheese malfunctioning with UVCVIDEO webcams (was cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards)

2008-12-11 Thread Stefan Bader
To clarify the current situation: the currently available latest version
of Intrepid (10.20) will not fix the problem, since the patches went
into the repo too late. I refreshed my PPA to include those and a few
other changes based on 10.20. So until the next -proposed upload, the
only kernel that includes the fix will be the one in the PPA.

For the time being I will update the PPA shortly (will take a little
time). I cannot say exactly how long it will take until the next
intrepid kernel is uploaded.

[Bug 290506] Re: cheese malfunctioning with UVCVIDEO webcams (was cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards)

2008-11-24 Thread Stefan Bader
SRU justification:

Impact: In Intrepid the change to v4l2 and use of v4l1 compatibility
library has caused several issues with the uvcvideo driver which in this
case are visible using cheese.

Fix: Several patches were backported from the upstream kernel driver and
the uvcvideo project to fix those issues. All of the patches are limited
to the uvcvideo module and have been tested as part of a PPA build.

Testcase: With the current driver in Intrepid the webcams do not work
with cheese. The updated module works.

2008-11-14 Thread Stefan Bader
I'd like to make sure that there is no mistake here. Could those which
tested successfully check whether there is probably a duplicate module.
As said, the PPA driver only contains some of the upstream fixes since
changes after initial release will have a harder time to get in.

2008-11-13 Thread Stefan Bader
I put a test kernel package (2.6.27-8.17smb2) to https://launchpad.net
/~stefan-bader-canonical/+archive which contains at least some of the
upstream fixes (in the kernel tree, not the uvc repo) and the commit
patch. Could someone try this and report whether this would be
sufficient to solve the problem? Thanks.

[Bug 290506] Re: gstreamer-based apps (gstreamer-properties, cheese) doesn't show the v4l2 video output

2008-10-29 Thread Stefan Bader
This is a little more information taken from another uvcvideo based webcam. As
far as i could find information at least camorama is needing the v4l library
because it is using the v4l1 API and uvcvideo supports only v4l2. i don't know
whether this is true for cheese as well.
The uvcvideo module was loaded with trace=255 and one run with camorama and one
with cheese was done.
