[Bug 1882394] [NEW] xrdp configured, connects successful then terminates

2020-06-06 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Public bug reported:

xrdp is setup, connections to client work: mstsc connects to client,
authentication is successful, then starts x11, starts session,
terminates session, terminates x11, closes connection. All without any
visible error. Any idea why?

[Bug 1611433] Re: gdm does not start after upgrade from 14.04.4 LTS to 16.04.1 LTS

2017-12-23 Thread Thomas Schweikle
the system starts "gdm", but this maps to the default gdm selected by
"update-alternatives". Since gdm is not installed, but lightdm is,
update-alternatives automatically selects lightdm to start with:

# update-alternatives --get-selections
x-session-manager auto /usr/bin/startxfce4
x-window-manager auto /usr/bin/metacity

This does indeed start lightdm and in tune lightdm starts lightdm-gtk-greeter.
But after successfully logging in lightdm does not start the desktop!
I have to switch to a console, login as user, stop lightdm, then start X11 with
"startxfce4" to have my desktop shown.

/etc/lightdm holds only:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K Jan 30 2015 lightdm.conf.d/
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 51 Dec 19 20:59 lightdm.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2.7K Apr 11 2016 lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 452 Oct 30 2014 users.conf

the only changed file: lightdm.conf holds:
[SeatDefaults]
greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter

An other file in lightdm.conf.d has:
[SeatDefaults]
user-session=xubuntu

But combining these into one does not change anything. lightdm starts,
handles login, but does not start my desktop environment.

H:

# cd /etc/dconf/db/gdm.d/
-bash: cd: /etc/dconf/db/gdm.d/: No such file or directory

Singe gdm isn't installed, I did not expect to find configuration files
for gdm at all -- what is ok, since gdm is not installed.

[Bug 805658] Re: various redraw errors with gnome

2011-07-14 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Quite difficult. As soon as I move the mouse it may hover a window. This
leads to a redraw of all windows, removing the artifacts from windows
moved to the other screen. ;-) I'll try further. Maybe I'll get it some
time!

Impossible! As soon as the screenshot window opens the whole screen is
redrawn --- all artifacts are removed this way! If there is a way to
take a screenshot without poping up a window I could try using this.

[Bug 805658] [NEW] various redraw errors with gnome

2011-07-04 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Public bug reported:

Open a window (shell, browser, LibreOffice, ...) open some more windows, work.
Move some of the windows from one desktop to the other. Parts of the moved
windows will still display. Switching from one console to an other will remove
these parts and redraw the whole screen.
Sometimes this is true moving windows to top or bottom too. The old window
moved down the stack is displayed further util the whole desktop is redrawn.
From time to time this is with the taskbar too. The only way to force it
redrawn is switch to an other console, then back. This is quite annoying ...

[Bug 510523] [NEW] Enter username, then press tab, return, no cancel

2010-01-20 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

If an user list is displayed, click on Other ..., then enter an user
name, then tab, to switch to then next active key, in this case
Cancel. Press Return. Surprisingly you're prompted for a password,
instead of canceling the action.

If no user list is displayed it is the same: enter an user name, then
tab to switch to Cancel, press Return --- and be prompted for a
password instead canceling the action.

[Bug 495304] Re: [Lucid] Fails to prompt for password when user list is disabled (non face-browser mode)

2010-01-18 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Having the same here: clicking Other ... to log in with some user name
not displayed in the list, there is no password prompt. Subsequent
programs handling the login are given an empty password. It is possible
to log in, but only with an account not having set a password. --- Sure
you'll have to enable users to login with an empty password first :(

Maybe related: setting password change time to 0 makes gdm prompt for
a new password, after the old one correctly entered. The password is
asked twice. But after having entered the new password the second time,
you'll be prompted again with gdm's login screen. Trying the new
password fails. Trying the old one works. But since you are questioned
to change your password, you'll be trown out again after entering the
new password two times.

[Bug 495304] Re: [Lucid] Fails to prompt for password when user list is disabled (non face-browser mode)

2010-01-18 Thread Thomas Schweikle
I just noticed: for every try there is a new X-Console opened. Switching
to old ones (using Ctrl-Alt-F7, Ctrl-Alt-F8, ...) mouse will have focus,
but not the keyboard. Means: I can drag the mouse cursor arround, but
keypresses are ignored. The mouse-keys are ignored too.
