[Bug 1298374] [NEW] Bluetooth applet doesn't remember state

2014-03-27 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

If I disable bluetooth from the applet, reboot and then check the state,
it is enabled.

So the applet fails to make the change permanent, as you expect it to
do.

Other settings are usually permanent across reboots so I can't see why
this settings shouldn't be. It saves battery to only turn it on if you
need it on a laptop.

[Bug 1253624] Re: Nothing happens when I do suspend, reboot to fix

2013-11-30 Thread ThomasNovin
Doing a shutdown instead of suspend shows a message like attached file,
that some application inhibits the shutdown.

So maybe the same for suspend?

So this should be notified to the user.

What application is inhibiting the shutdown in this case, has this
request been logged somewhere?

[Bug 1238186] [NEW] Every time after resume, have to unlock/logon twice

2013-10-10 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

My computer suspends after leaving it for 1 hour. When using it again,
it resumes and I have to login to unlock. Then right after login, the
screen goes black and I'm at the logon prompt again.

Settings are both suspend & turn screen off after 1 hour.

Note! I cannot reproduce this problem when I lower the timers to screen
off after 10 minutes and suspend 30 minutes.

I will try if possible to check battery status with W7. I have another

[Bug 708317] [NEW] totem prevents screensaver/power management

2011-01-26 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Even though I'm just playing audio files and have set Preferences >

screensaver & power management settings for display to come active.

Steps to reproduce. Set screensaver for 1 min and power management sleep
to 5 minutes. Start playing audio with above stated config and wait for
+5 minutes. You can notice that the screen is still on.

[Bug 705610] [NEW] Ping from Network Tools shows packetloss even though it works

2011-01-20 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-nettool

Just by coincidence I tried using Ping from Administration > Network

It doesn't work! It says that I cannot ping anything, even though it
works just fine if I do it in a terminal. I can also see with tcpdump
that ping from this tool actually does work and nice replies are
received also.

Ping from terminal + tcpdump:

[Bug 196636] Re: bookmarks do not show correct names for smb shares

2010-12-29 Thread ThomasNovin
This is present in Maverick 10.10 even with new bookmarks. I don't
recall it being like this in older releases though (9.10). Just after
you have created a bookmark it has the right name but after a reboot
it's just called 'smb'.

After using a bookmark it gets renamed to the correct value. Also,
mouse-over on any 'smb' bookmark will show the correct name.

[Bug 475845] Re: delay on printing dialog in evince

2010-06-23 Thread ThomasNovin
@FM: I tried the workaround on two other computers. Worked on both of
them.

On the computer that it didn't work I had one big difference, IPv6 was
disabled, both with sysctl settings and also in /etc/hosts. After re-
enabling it works again.

[Bug 475845] Re: delay on printing dialog in evince

2010-05-27 Thread ThomasNovin
Uhm, when I do the workaround I loose all printers? If I go to
Administration > Printers I can see them all but when I try to print
from something I have no printers.

I changed this in cupsd.conf:

#Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock

to

Listen localhost:631

Nothing in error_log and cupsd starts but no printers. How do I change
the system from trying to use the socket to instead use localhost:631?

2010-05-24 Thread ThomasNovin
F-spot development is "quite" poor. Compared to iPhoto or Picasa it
doesn't have much to offer.

I can recommend trying out Picasa (even though it's not native Linux, it
runs over Wine officially supported from Google).

[Bug 574350] Re: caldav calendar hangs evolution

2010-05-03 Thread ThomasNovin
I did this to got it working again:

Put evolution in offline-mode
Added a / to the end of both caldav urls
(caldav://www.google.com/calendar/dav/my.usern...@gmail.com/events/)
evolution --force-shutdown
Removed all entries for caldav/gmail from Password & Encryption Keys
Went to ~/.evolution/cache/calendar/ and removed all directories that were
involved
Now it actually worked after I restarted evolution after going online + writing
in my password for both calendars

One correction for my original description: The two calendars were on
two different gmail-accounts

Was probably a bug in some way but this workaround worked for me.

2009-03-30 Thread ThomasNovin
@Martin Wei:

I have tried getting info from evolution-data-server many times but I
have never had a crash while running under gdb. I have now upgraded to
Jaunty so hopefully the problem is gone.

@chaghaboo:

That warning is not about the archive you added from the guide at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash.

You have some PPA archive added for which you don't have a key
installed. Seems harmless but to fix usually you can go to
https://launchpad.net/~network-manager/+archive/ppa (replace network-
manager with the name of the repo you have on ppa.launchpad.net). There
are instructions.

[Bug 326059] Re: gcalctool can't divide correctly in Jaunty

2009-02-06 Thread ThomasNovin
This was using the Basic mode. I just tested Advanced and Financial with
the same result. The problem seems to be that it doesn't print the
decimal point. Since you can do 3590 / 12 and then * 12 and get 3590
again it obviously has the right numers, it just presents them wrong.

Btw, 2590/12 isn't exactly 299 but 299,16667. Used bc to calculate
and there were no decimal points there..

[Bug 326059] [NEW] gcalctool can't divide correctly in Jaunty

2009-02-05 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

Simple divides doesn't work correctly in Jaunty.

For example:

/10 = 111,1
Result with gcalctool:

3590/12 = 299
Result with gcalctool: 29916667

However! If you take 3590/12 and then multiply 29916667 with 12 you
get 3590 again :)

[Bug 259771] Re: Browsing smb share is painfully slow

2008-08-22 Thread ThomasNovin
I don't know how to use those utils, both lack a man page..

$ man gvfs-ls
No manual entry for gvfs-ls
See 'man 7 undocumented' for help when manual pages are not available.
$ man gvfs-mount
No manual entry for gvfs-mount
See 'man 7 undocumented' for help when manual pages are not available.

I tried with gvfs-ls in /.gvfs/myshare on winserver.domain.root/ instead
of ls and that was very slow, using time I can see the same result as
with regular ls. Except that ls has a long delay then prints all the
output fast and gvfs-ls shows the output almost as if you are connected
on a terminal with 9600 bps :)

[Bug 260350] [NEW] Intrepid Cannot change resolution on laptop with Intel gfx adapter

2008-08-22 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I have a Lenovo T61 (1024x768) + 20" Wide-screen Samsung LCD connected
via docking station.

Both displays have 1024x768. If I open gnome-display-preferences I
uncheck mirror screens, drag the 14" laptop LCD to the right of the
bigger Samsung, click the Samsung and change resolution to 1650x1080.
Nothing happens when I press apply.

I tried to log out and log in again only to find that all settings were
back to the way they were, mirror was enabled again.

[Bug 259771] Re: Browsing smb share is painfully slow

2008-08-22 Thread ThomasNovin
Test case 1: From Nautilus, I click the share which is saved to a
bookmark. Then I go into one directory and two more steps up the
hierarchy.

Time from start to completion: 40 seconds

Test case 2: With smbclient, connect to the share, issue 'ls', enter a
directory, issue 'ls, then go two more steps up the hierarchy (ls'ing
all the way).

Time from start to completion: 5 seconds (mostly typing took time)

I can also add that browsing to the same folder with Explorer in XP
takes < 5 seconds.

[Bug 259771] [NEW] Browsing smb share is painfully slow

2008-08-20 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

I would like to open a new bug with the same issue as bug #186461,
browsing samba shares is painfully slow.

I don't notice this at home on my 100Mbit network with no so much
directories but at work, over a 10Mbit leased line and hundreds of
directories on a share, every operation takes 10-15 seconds until you
get a bit deeper into the hierarchy inside a directory with only a
couple of directories/files in it.

[Bug 240388] Re: Not supported calendar message in Outlook

2008-08-12 Thread ThomasNovin
Ok, I will do that.

I also noted now that when I send a invite from Evolution via Exchange
to a person with Evolution and IMAP the invite is OK in that direction.
When that person accepts and sends a reply, that message isn't possible
to receive. I collect my Exchange email via IMAP. I got this message
from the Exchange server in my Inbox:

Exchange 2007 IMAP4 server failed to retrieve the following message:

Subject: "Accepted: Meeting Title"
From: "Some Person" ("[EMAIL PROTECTED]")
Sent Date: 2008-08-07 22:01:43

The message could not be retrieved using the IMAP4 protocol. The message
has not been deleted and may be accessible using either Microsoft
Outlook or Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access. You can also try
contacting the original sender of the message to find out about the
contents of the message.

Retrieval of this message will be retried when the server is updated
with a fix that addresses the problem.

[Bug 195580] Re: Nautilus-sendto always uses first entry in the combo-box

2008-08-08 Thread ThomasNovin
The patch has solved one problem and left another remaining.

Before it chose the wrong person if you had two persons matching the
same criteria and you selected the latter of the two. It also garbled
the email address so the to: address was mangled once in Evolution.
