[Bug 121683] Font DPI in Gnome wrong in Gutsy on MacBook
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu Gutsy on my MacBook, the default font size/DPI for Gnome is wrong. In the case of running on the MacBook hardware natively, this means extremely large fonts - with Gnome defaulting to 112 dpi. In the case of running on VMware Fusion with the same resolution, this means extremely small fonts - with Gnome defaulting to 75 dpi. On Feisty, both configurations default to 96 dpi and have reasonably-sized fonts. Changing to 96 dpi in Gnome (Font control panel) in Gutsy makes the fonts better, though they are still a bit larger than they are in Feisty with the same setting. This is wrong on two counts - 1) the fonts should be set reasonably after install as in Feisty 2) The actual DPI of the screen is 113 dpi - at that setting the fonts would be HUGE Filed bug against GNOME as fonts outside of GNOME/GNOME apps are fine and the issue hinges on GNOME's DPI setting... ** Affects: libgnome (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Font DPI in Gnome wrong in Gutsy on MacBook https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/121683 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for libgnome in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 118745] Re: Font sizes in Gutsy are vulnerable to bad X.org DPI detection
In my experience, changing the DPI does have an effect . However, what I'm finding is that even with the *correct* DPI values, the fonts can be way too big. In my case, using the correct value (112 dpi) causes my MacBook to have fonts that are intolerably large. 96 dpi, on the other hand, results in fonts that are of a more reasonable size. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox After installing Feisty, I connected my iPod mini with the intent of synchronizing my song library as I do in iTunes. Upon connecting my iPod, rhythmbox appeared. It will read my iPod's songs, but will not write songs to the iPod. Most users would expect that iPod support would entail synchronization and copying songs to the iPod, and not simply read support. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center I did notice that options for touchpad tapping, vertical scrolling, and horizontal scrolling are now included in the Mouse preferences. This is definitely a great improvement over having to configure these options in xorg.conf - hardly a trivial task for new Windows converts. The particular options I am referring to are: * Sensitivity options - this is one of the things Walt Mossberg complained about in his Ubuntu review... * 1/2/3 finger tap - allow these to be assigned to right, middle, or left click as the user wishes * two-finger scrolling - this is what Macs use by default, and the synaptics driver allows for this. * circular scrolling - also available through Synaptics driver * corner taps - these are quite useful on my MacBook, as I errantly tap a lot but still want an actual button for right-click Also, it may be a good idea to use Mac-like defaults for appletouch touchpads and Windows-like defaults on all other touchpads - that way, everything behaves as the user expects it to (in most cases)... ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Add two-finger scrolling/two-finger tapping to Touchpad options https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/140602 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 113464] iPod support should include writing/synchronization
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox After installing Feisty, I connected my iPod mini with the intent of synchronizing my song library as I do in iTunes. Upon connecting my iPod, rhythmbox appeared. It will read my iPod's songs, but will not write songs to the iPod. I am aware that this is the current limitation of rhythmbox, but it seems that this should be a priority for the next release. Most users would expect that iPod support would entail synchronization and copying songs to the iPod, and not simply read support. If rhythmbox is never going to have iPod write support, it seems like switching to another media player for the Ubuntu default install (such as banshee) or preconfiguring gtkpod to work with the rhythmbox library would be worth considering. ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- iPod support should include writing/synchronization https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113464 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for rhythmbox in ubuntu.
