[Bug 849909] Re: g-s-d dies on starting
Hello? I know I'm not the only one with this bug: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1789452 I wish I could help out; unfortunately, I have neither the skills nor the time immediately to hand. It just seems that bug reporting has become a futile process: unless it is a problem that either affects such a large number of people it is impossible to ignore, or a problem that personally affects a developer, it seems that there is no motivation even to triage (let alone fix!). I know I haven't paid for support, and I know I'm not helping out particularly with the bugs I report, but it is frustrating that an evident lack of engineering and QA resources manifests itself in this way; as I said, I'm not the only person with this bug. ** Attachment added: "debug log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/849909/+attachment/2450508/+files/debug.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/849909 Title: g-s-d dies on starting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/849909/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 178652] Re: No access to non-default sound format profiles
Err, this is a totally valid bug. I have all the codes installed. Plainly, the profiles do not work. Ripping a CD tells me that the cdlossy profile cannot be found. Well, of course it can't; I can't even select it from the list. I don't even necessarily know that I want that profile. I just want mp3 output :) Creating profiles does not help: even if they are added to the gnome-audio-profiles-properties list, they do not appear in the drop-down for selection. Occasionally, when they have done, they do not allow me to rip anything. ** Changed in: sound-juicer (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- No access to non-default sound format profiles https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178652 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 145524] Re: Splash screen typo error
I do not believe this is the intention of the image. The image is there to inform the user that the software was released as a "release candidate", not a "release condadidate". The bug report referenced above has not been updated since December 2006, so I don't think any activity will be happening there; let alone any "tracking". [Bug 95865] Re: gnome-settings-daemon conflicts with xfce daemon over keyboard handling
Well, the new title does not effectively describe the bug. There is no conflict (as I would not be running XFCE and GNOME at the same time), nor does XFCE have such a daemon that I am aware of. (As I said in my original report). Perhaps having a setting to allow gnome-settings- daemon to not try and take control of, say, the keyboard settings, and let the user set it up himself via an Xmodmap. -- gnome-settings-daemon conflicts with xfce daemon over keyboard handling https://launchpad.net/bugs/95865 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 95865] gnome-settings-daemon thinks it's God, but doesn't do a very good job of it
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center gnome-settings-daemon seems to think it's in charge of every preference that I'd like to set on my computer. While in theory this may be a good thing, and I agree that if implemented properly it could be, in practice it is not, as it gets things wrong. My main qualm at the moment is that where XFCE (which does not have an omnipotent daemon) lets me use my multimedia keys to control any application that supports them (with the aid of an Xmodmap), gnome-settings-daemon seems to decide that although the keys are recognised, it will prohibit me from using them for anything. This appears to be a regression from Edgy. When I try to burn a CD, I don't get the option to burn using my CD writer - only to an image. There's not much point burning an image to an image, so I'm guessing this is broken. [Bug 49220] [Edgy] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-dev sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-dev Password: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: libgtk2.0-dev: Depends: libglib2.0-dev (>= 2.8.5) but it is not going to be in stalled Depends: libpango1.0-dev (>= 1.10.0-2) but it is not going to b e installed Depends: libatk1.0-dev (>= 1.6.1-2) but it is not going to be i nstalled Depends: libcairo2-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: libxcursor-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: libxfixes-dev but it is not going to be installed E: Broken packages ** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed ** Summary changed: - [Edgy] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev + [Edgy (also affects Dapper)] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev -- [Edgy (also affects Dapper)] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev https://launchpad.net/bugs/49220 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
