[Bug 556349] Re: CPU Load goes to 100% when viewing saved credentials (not ssh keys)

2011-02-03 Thread Tony Yarusso
I'll note that this is still present in Lucid as of 4 February 2011 for
me, although I didn't have the Xorg usage Phillip reported; just one
core by Seahorse.

[Bug 393854] Re: Update PAM policy to allow password-less logins set up via users-admin

2009-11-02 Thread Tony Yarusso
Given that this was supposed to be fixed before Karmic release, the fix
is known, and we've now shipped a greyed-out checkbox to users, is this
likely to get fixed in Karmic, or should I tell my dad to expect it in
Lucid only?

[Bug 469935] [NEW] Don't ask for password on login option is unavailable

2009-11-01 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

On both a fresh 9.10 installation and an upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10,
under System Administration Users and Groups, Add User, there is an
option shown in the dialogue labelled Don't ask for password on login,
but it is greyed out and can not be selected. I do not know whether it
worked on previous versions. The fix appears to be a combination of
creating a group called nopasswdlogin and changing some configuration
files relating to gdm and pam.

The addition of the group is sufficient to bring the checkbox into
focus, but the gdm/pam changes are necessary for it to actually work.

The details of these fixes can be found in the latest comments on Bug
#396459, but I believe this to be separate from the issue that bug was
originally filed to address. Of note they link to
http://www.danellis.co.uk/drupal/node/7 and
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=12777page=2 for the relevant
information.

(Yes, this is a separate issue unrelated to either the automatic login
option in the gdm config or the guest session presented by FUSA.)

Version number of gdm as shipped with Karmic is 2.28.1-0ubuntu1, but
then you knew that.

[Bug 214903] [NEW] Aisleriot regression for double-clicking stacks

2008-04-09 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Earlier in the Hardy release cycle, if you had a completed stack from
King through Ace, double-clicking it would move it up to the completed
slots at the top of the screen. At some point in the last 24-hours,
this feature disappeared, and it's back to only supporting dragging-and-
dropping piles to the completion spots (the behavior it had in Gutsy).
Note that this is in the Spider game, although I suspect similar things
might be happening in other games.

Package version 1:2.22.1.1-0ubuntu3

2008-04-08 Thread Tony Yarusso
Confirming as still present in Hardy. Should perhaps create something
like unsaved1~ in the .gnome2/gedit directory, and offer to restore it
on next run, similar to OpenOffice.org, or Epiphany/Firefox with tab
sessions.

[Bug 190120] [NEW] [hardy] Resources tab of g-s-m uses 100% CPU

2008-02-07 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

Running Hardy with gnome-system-monitor 2.21.5-0ubuntu1, linux kernel
2.6.24-5-generic.

There is something about the new graphs in the system monitor that cause
it to use an extraordinary amount of processing power when viewed.
Opening the program itself does not cause any ill effects, and the
System, Processes, and File Systems tabs all work fine. However, as
soon as I switch to the Resources tab my processor usage shoots up to
100%. I can confirm that it is in fact using that much, and not merely
misreporting, as a) I have the system monitor panel applet running as
well, and b) system responsiveness grinds to a near-halt. Switching
back to one of the other three tabs makes everything normal again.

I have been using a graph refresh rate of 1/1.75s. Using 1/4.00s CPU
usage drops to 50-55%. Increasing the interval to 60.00s brings it down
to an almost reasonable 10%. The shortest interval that will
consistently give 100% is 2.00s.

My hardware consists of a 1.86 GHz Pentium M processor and 1024 MB RAM
with and ATI Radeon Mobility X300 video card.

I have attached a screenshot of the graphs, showing the result of
alternating between the Resources tab and the others (as it still graphs
in the background as long as the app is open). Note that actually
calculating the graphs doesn't seem to be a problem, but only if you are
actually looking at them.

I see that there are a number of performance-related bugs filed against
g-s-m, but after looking through them it does not seem to me that any of
them are the same set of conditions and symptoms, so I think this is a
new bug, but am not 100% sure.

[Bug 109192] Re: Lacks sync option for iPod

2007-08-10 Thread Tony Yarusso
There's more to it than that actually. Rhythmbox will physically put
the files on the iPod, but will not update the DB, and without that you
can't play the files on the iPod itself on-the-go until that is fixed.
(at least this is true on my new nano that I just started using)

[Bug 66860] Re: evolution-alarm-notify crashes on startup (xfce?)

Got a notice about this crash in Gnome on Feisty, 14 Dec. 2006, immediately on

This is the first time I have seen this - have not yet attempted to reproduce
(but was prompted to submit by a pretty cool dialogue...)

Not sure how this might relate to released versions.

[Bug 33002] Re: logout dialog UI objections

2006-04-21 Thread Tony Yarusso
Now, I will first agree that there should be some work on making icons
match other things, and having them be themable would be great, but it
sounds like a lot of people are on that already. The main thing that
irked me about the dialogue was the sheer size. I mean, it takes up
what, 25% of the total screen area? I find that a bit excessive, and
not what I would expect from a simple dialogue window. If some of the
space between icons were removed, space around the border shrunk down,
and maybe the icons themselves made just a tad smaller if necessary.
Basically, my impression when the window popped up was that it was huge.
So, just some trimming would be great in my opinion.

[Bug 38694] No XChat in Dapper

2006-04-08 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Affects: xchat (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Apparently someone made the decision to remove XChat from the default
installation for Dapper. This is important because it is the means new
users use to reach the various IRC channels on Freenode and all the
support those have to offer. I understand that Gaim is still included
and supports IRC, but this has a few problems as an alternative. First,
new users are not going to thing that Gaim Internet Messenger in their
Applications menu has anything to do with getting support. Second,
setting up, connecting to, and using IRC isn't entirely intuitive.
Third, many people simply don't like Gaim's IRC UI. Fourth, it does not
have the built-in setting like XChat had to automatically join #ubuntu
when first started. In short, a brand new user is significantly less
likely to manage to find the support of the IRC channels on their first
boot of Ubuntu without XChat included and not knowing the ropes pretty
well already. The IRC channels are an absolutely vital way of helping
new users, and must be very easily accessible. Inclusion of XChat is a
big step towards that. (Further UI setup for first boot are an issue as
well, but that's a separate issue.)
