Yes crossfading was enabled. Thanks, so far that seems to have helped. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox There are times I try to pause/stop the file currently playing in Rhythmbox via the sound indicator applet and it doesn't pause/stop. When this happens I hear the audio playing begin to crackle and I have to close Rhythmbox all together and then open it again so that things will return to normal. I had the same problem with nvidia-settings and putty.
