[Bug 1908429] Re: gnome-shell fills syslog: Attempting to run a JS callback during garbage collection. This is most likely caused by destroying a Clutter actor or GTK widget with ::destroy signal conn

2024-02-09 Thread Ibrahim Ahmed
OS: Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.4.0-169-generic x86_64)
Package: gnome-shell 3.36.9
I am getting similar issue, but on a different callback as per below:

gnome-shell[1742]: Attempting to call back into JSAPI during the
sweeping phase of GC. This is most likely caused by not destroying a
Clutter actor or Gtk+ widget with ::destroy signals connected, but can
also be caused by using the destroy(), dispose(), or remove() vfuncs.
Because it would crash the application, it has been blocked and the JS
callback not invoked.

gnome-shell[1742]: The offending signal was user-changed on
ActUserManager 0x5611315f9eb0.

It does not happen on every run. My MWE:

Xfce team has deprecated xfce4-icon-theme project. So I made a best

here(https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14378). Hoping this will
be fixed at some point. In the meanwhile changing icon theme is the
workaround.

[Bug 1768603] Re: All review score averages are 5 Stars - 1 Star reviews show as 5 Star

2018-05-04 Thread Junaid Ahmed
I have this issue with gnome-software on Xfce 4.12 (Xubuntu 18.04 LTS).
The problem occurs with default icon pack elementary Xfce darker; along
with elementary Xfce, elementary Xfce dark, elementary Xfce darkest icon
pack. So the problem occurs with the whole series of elementary-Xfce
icon pack. Stars are shown correctly with other icon packs included in
Xubuntu.

[Bug 1768603] Re: All review score averages are 5 Stars - 1 Star reviews show as 5 Star

2018-05-04 Thread Junaid Ahmed
** Description changed:

- OS: Ubuntu Studio 18.04 Bionic Beaver
-
- (Comes with:
- DE - XFCE4
- Version of application: 3.28.1-0ubuntu4)
-
+ OS: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
+ DE: Xfce 4.12
+ Package: gnome-software 3.28.1-0ubuntu4

Looking in the Gnome Software application, all applications with any
ratings show as 5-star. One-star reviews show as 5-star in the reviews
  section.

An easy example to demonstrate this issue is to look at the entry for
  WINE.

  5 Star Reviews (x24)
  4 Star Reviews (x9)
  3 Star Reviews (x5)
  2 Star Reviews (x11)
  1 Star Reviews (x45)

  Overall average - 5 Stars.

Scrolling down to read individual reviews shows five stars for obviously
  negative reviews:

[Bug 1509762] [NEW] After upgrade to Ubuntu 15.10, Systemd fail to boot

2015-10-25 Thread Naz Ahmed
Public bug reported:

After successful upgrading to Ubuntu 15.10 from 15.04, restart system option
couldn't boot, seemed in a loop, showing mouse pointer in the center of the
screen for few seconds and then a blinking cursor at the upper left corner,
instead. Used Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot and selected Upstart option which
successfully booted the system but showing a message like "Upstart; Error while
reading from descriptor, broken pipe."
On my next attempt to boot using default systemd option I observed a message
like "Systemd(1) Failed to setup API Bus. Connection timed out." , and then saw
a window saying like "running low graphic" and then went into the same loop.
Now, I can boot using Upstart option only not the systemd option.

[Bug 1351230] [NEW] Sync harfbuzz 0.9.33-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2014-08-01 Thread Ahmed El-Mahmoudy
Public bug reported:

Please sync harfbuzz 0.9.33-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * debian/patches/0001-graphite2-Fix-cluster-mapping.patch: Cherry-pick a
patch from upstream (in 0.9.30) to fix a crasher in the graphite2 engine
when rendering some scripts (e.g. happens on Myanmar text). (LP: #1303516)

This change is in new upstream.

Changelog entries since current utopic version 0.9.29-1ubuntu2:

harfbuzz (0.9.33-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
  * Upload to unstable.
  * Added unbreak_abi.diff patch to Re-add hb_version_check to unbreak API/ABI.
This patch should be removed on the next API/ABI break by upstream.
See: #755094
  * Revert last SO bump, libharfbuzz0c back to libharfbuzz0b.

[Bug 1328820] Re: GDM doesn't start on boot

2014-06-12 Thread Ahmed El-Mahmoudy
The previous 4 comments are from another machine that was upgraded from
Ubuntu 12.04.4 to Ubuntu 14.04, then I installed: ubuntu-gnome-desktop &
removed ubuntu-desktop to convert to Ubuntu GNOME.

lightdm runs on this machine. But gdm would not start (not even
manually)

Funny thing, I installed lightdm (with --no-install-recommends), and
tried it, but it won't work. It wouldn't even start manually.

Anyways, after I removed lightdm and then rebooted. Now gdm starts on
boot.

[Bug 1286641] [NEW] screen locking doesn't work

2014-03-01 Thread Ahmed EL Zein
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04 and one of the artifacts that appeared
after the upgrade was that I was not able to lock the screen.

I have tried using Ctrl-Alt-L as well as running gnome-screensaver -l
and in both cases the screen goes blank but then activity just brings
everything back with out asking for a password or anything.

This also happens when I suspend the laptop. When I open the lid I find
myself immediatly in the descktop instean of having to unlock my screen
as I would normaly do.

2013-03-21 Thread Shabbir Ahmed
I support this statement,

What if you replace "Urdu Nastaliq Unicode" with "Nafees Nastaleeq"?
the answer is yes.

this font should display urdu text even if urdu package is not
installed. There is some default font thats why we can see/read urdu at
least.

Udu Nastaliq Unicode is not well supported, where as Nafees Nastaleeq is
made and supported by some well known institution of pakistan and is an
organization.

[Bug 1153188] Re: Urdu with better support: Default Fonts, Kbd Layout

2013-03-19 Thread Shabbir Ahmed
These days I'm researching different fonts and keyboard layouts and
talking to URDU experts,

The current defacto standard considered is "InPage"
http://www.inpage.com/Download.html. They make their own versions of
fonts, like the version of nastaleeq that InPage makes is called "Noori
Nastaleeq".

The best of all public implementations so far i found is Nafees
Nastaleeq I mentioned in my above reply. it has an issue in that the
text clarity in different font sizes is not same(distorted text like if
you type something in large size on a low resolution display), in few
sizes the text displays is not that best clear "like it does if you copy
from Inpage" to an image format and view them in a browser.

the best till i found is Nafees Nastaleeq, which is at least supported. there
are many other versions of Nastaleeq available but not well supported.

the other good fonts available are Nafees Web etc.

Thanks,

[Bug 1153188] Re: Urdu with better support: Default Fonts, Kbd Layout

2013-03-12 Thread Shabbir Ahmed
The official Font for urdu is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasta%CA%BFl%C4%ABq_script

Nasta Liq, all the news papers universities text books school college
materials all are printed in this font.

here is the officially made font and checked by a famous calligrapher,
http://www.crulp.org/software/localization/Fonts/nafeesNastaleeq.html

The font could be downloaded from the same place,

If you want i can personally go and meet them make a report and update
you.

Gunnar,
About the keyboard lay out there are many and we are talking about the default,
as to type in english you simply click into a text area and start typing, where
as in urdu you have to do some effort which a common computer user is not aware
of, so i think we have to simplify things for him, if he clicks into a place to
type in urdu he simply selects the urdu and start typing the easiest way or the
more easy he can achieve his task.

This would be the
http://www.crulp.org/software/localization/keyboards/CRULPphonetickbv1.1.html

which already is in ubuntu named Urdu (Pakistan, CRULP),

Urdu (Pakistan, CRULP) is phonetic keyboard layout and all the ppl who
use special software to write urdu and then convert it into image format
(most in-page is used) and the keyboard layout is called phonetic.

kindly sujjest further.

thank you,

[Bug 504405] Re: Ctrl-Tab should jump to the next tab

2012-10-02 Thread Ahmed Salim
if canonical is planning to make Ubuntu compete with Windows and Mac then they
must think of using conventional UI for all the apps. Ctrl + Tab is used to
switch tabs. if this very basic shortcut cannot be implemented, then forget
about making Ubuntu one of the best OSes.
If i'm not wrong empathy is developed using Python?? I don't do python, but i'm

[Bug 995014] Re: vlc controls stay after exit full screen

2012-05-25 Thread Anas Ahmed
K. The time I reported this, they didn't, as far as I remember, which I feel is
correct as the seek bar in the window and the one in these separate controls
display different duration.
Today, two different things happened:
1 They do work with the video getting re-sized but without any borders or
controls attached around it with only these controls remaining from the full
screen and the seek bar displaying the correct duration.
2 The video re-sized with no controls at all. (Attached)

It does not happen every time.
It's kinda tricky. I don't know how it happened the first time, but now, I go
full screen, Alt+Tab to Chrome (v 18.0.1025.168), and drag the title bar down...

It surely has something to do with Chrome. When I run VLC in full screen
and Alt+Tab to a sized window of Chrome and choose maximize it does
happen but in kinda background and VLC (still full screen) becomes the
active window again...

'Is the bug going away if you move a dialog over the area of the
background?' No.

I'm experiencing something similar with any kind of window but mostly
when using a file browser in XFCE/Xubuntu using 12.04. I'll open the
natilus window then work in some other window and when I come back to
the nautilus window by clicking on it the window goes to the lower right
corner of the screen with the mouse pointer representing a hand.

[Bug 876007] Re: nautilus uses 100% of CPU

2012-04-26 Thread Ahmed Al-Alousi
Don't you think it's a bit reckless closing bugs and brushing them aside
like this, as if people reporting them are mere idiots. This is a
really serious bug, and only two days ago I managed to waste a complete
48 hours because of the 100% CPU usage and unresponsiveness of the
system.

You say to obtain a back trace; how on earth are you supposed to do that
when the system is simply frozen and the bug affecting not a single
package, but every single package that one can use to copy files across
- take your pick, do a large copy of either a large contiguous file or a
large number of files, and bingo you have it.

One would have thought a team with brains the size of a planet would
surely have seen this, rather than hide behind political crap that
distinguished Micro$oft and it's pile of Windoze trash. So how about
you get off of your hight horse, move those fat a***s, acknowledge the
bug and give a more meaningful answer to everyone's complaints? Bah
Humbug !!

[Bug 949878] Re: /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon hogs CPU

2012-03-13 Thread Ahmed El-Mahmoudy
Backtrace for /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

Funny thing is that I wasn't able to attach to the process unless I used
sudo (although the process was owned by my user!!)

Another funny thing is that after detaching (or maybe that happened
after attaching), the process stopped hogging the CPU.

While I am on a GNOME Shell session, gnome-settings-daemon would start

having this problem in Precise.

[Bug 683610] Re: If pausing before entering fullscreen, the movie goes blank

2011-11-21 Thread Ahmed Shams
Thanks for reporting it, Actually I thought it happens to me only :)
I've experienced it with 'Totem' plus, even in fullscreen if I move the cursor
the bars from top and bottom will move inside then outside, after moving
outside it leaves blank shadows and it doesn't clear until un-fullscreen then
fullscreen again. The only way to avoid this was by Un-installing then
installing it again, anybody tried this with banshee or it's just totem.
