[Bug 1710637] Re: Input falls through to gdm3 and terminates the session on Ctrl+C

2017-09-18 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Actually point 2 is not exactly true:
- udevadm control --reload-rules does not trigger the bug
- udevadm trigger reproduces the bug.

** Description changed:

+ = Test Cases =
+
+ Test Case 1:
+ - Login under Wayland (session Ubuntu)
+ - Open a terminal
+ - snap install gimp
+ - Wait until installation finishes successfully
+ - In the terminal window press CTRL+C
+
+ Result:

a new line
+ - Actual: The session is terminated and the login screen is displayed

+ Test Case 2:
+ - Login under Wayland (session Ubuntu)
+ - Open a terminal and type the following command:
+ $ sudo udevadm trigger
+
+ Result
+ - Expected: Nothing visible should happen for the user
+ - Actual: The session is terminated and the login screen is displayed
+
+
+ = Original Description =
+
Multiple times a day I find myself without a session after hitting
Ctrl+C in a terminal, it seems the input falls through the Ubuntu/GNOME
session and to gdm, which itself decides to terminate.

Even worse, when this happens, you can briefly see your login password
in plaintext in the virtual terminal. You can see the password however
long you want if you stop the gdm service when this happens.

I don't have a good way to reproduce, but it seems locking the session
with a keyboard shortcut, subsequently unlocking it, maybe suspending,
at some point brings this behaviour into the picture, until the session
  dies with a Ctrl+C.

[Bug 1710637] Re: Input falls through to gdm3 and terminates the session on Ctrl+C

2017-09-18 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
- it seems that only snapd using the opengl interface are triggering this issue.
- "udevadm control --reload-rules" or "udevadm trigger" do not trigger the bug
- It only happens under wayland. Installing or removing the same snaps under
Xorg do not trigger the bug.

2017-09-12 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
According to errors.u.c there is no occurrence of this crash for gnome-
software 3.20.5-0ubuntu0.16.04.6 in xenial-proposed.

https://errors.ubuntu.com/?release=Ubuntu%2016.04=gnome-
software=month=3.20.5-0ubuntu0.16.04.6

However, this version introduced a new crash which may potentially be a
regression
(https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/b8d914cec850474446873c5a60feba99b1d498d9
and bug 1716633)

Marking as verification-failed until it is investigated by the
maintainer of the package.

I cannot reproduce either. I type my password while the screen is still
black, by the time I press enter, the display is on again and the
session is unlocked.

[Bug 1714312] Re: 'Ubuntu' starts an x11 session instead of wayland

2017-09-04 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
I mean, if, after boot, I select wayland, then on next logins, the wayland
session always starts whether I select X or Wayland.
The same happens the other way around, if, after boot, I select xorg, then on
next logins, the xorg session always starts whether I select X or Wayland.

It is reproducible on real hardware, regularly upgraded, and in a
freshly installed VM.

I'll check if stopping pulseaudio makes a different.

[Bug 1714312] Re: 'Ubuntu' starts an x11 session instead of wayland

2017-09-01 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
I ran the following test:

1. Boot your system
2. Select Xorg
  -> Xorg session starts
3. Logout and select Wayland
  -> Wayland session starts
4 Logout and select Xorg
  -> FAIL: Wayland session starts

I'll try the other way around but it seems to confirm you theory that it works
on a fresh boot and then gdm gets confused.

As the original reporter, it is a duplicate. I tried to reproduce using
a different graphics driver in a qemu VM and the cog is there with the 3
expected entries.

[Bug 1714203] Re: Cannot select a session after a fresh installation - No selection is available in gdm

2017-08-31 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Indeed that's the issue. If I use another graphics driver (qxl instead of vga)
then the 2 options are displayed. But then both entries start x11 (same than on
my laptop)
I'm closing this report and will file another one for the other issue.

Thanks.
