[Bug 819697] [NEW] Gnome Disk Utility shows USB speed as MB/s

2011-08-02 Thread bsh

[Bug 234473] Re: [users-admin] [HARDY] erasing /etc/passwd and /etc/groups when failing to load configuration

2010-05-30 Thread bsh
i have forgotten to mention, that adding users didn't f##k up the system
in any way. it's just the gui app not showing anything.

and i already found out why was that in my case (i wish if all things could be
fixed this fast! :)
in my case, my "Real Name" contained national characters, which showed up wrong
in the /etc/passwd file. the system obviously didn't know how to handle these
characters or something. after editing the passwd file manually, the gui app
started to work again.

[Bug 234473] Re: [users-admin] [HARDY] erasing /etc/passwd and /etc/groups when failing to load configuration

2010-05-30 Thread bsh
i have this "empty users & groups list" too, on a reinstalled 8.04.4. (it was
working before, with 8.04, which i used for years until i gave the 10.04
upgrade a try... :) hence the reinstall...)
i have added users and groups manually with adduser and other commands (also
with webmin). the /etc/groups and /etc/paswwd files are intact. the grpck
doesn't find any problem either.
i have to note (as in many other cases it seemed to be important), that i'm
using the desktop over a vnc connection. i had to unlock several things in the
policy kit to allow me to access several "admin tools", such as users and
groups. but it only affected the unlock button, as far as i can tell. i don't
think the users&groups app would display anything if i'd log in locally (not
with vnc), but i can not test this.

[Bug 570898] Re: Menu editor alacarte crashes on startup

2010-04-29 Thread bsh
solution: copy the menu files from /etc/xdg/menus to the user folder
~/.config/menus (which is empty by default)

[Bug 152648] Re: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error

2008-07-16 Thread bsh
i have this bug too. just started to happen today.
i am on 7.04 i386 desktop (running on a file server). the server is headless,
so i log in via vnc on screen :1.
since today, when i log in to the desktop using vnc, then close the vnc
session, the next time i log in, i am not getting back to the desktop where i
left it, but to the login screen again. when i close the vnc session, it
crashes X and restarts it, with the above error message.
therefore i doubt it's a nvidia driver issue.
yesterday i installed webmin, but it's unlikely to have anything to do with
this.

the other thing i did yesteday was, i found xubuntu-system-tools in the
synaptic package manager (i'm using xfce) and installed it, which caused the
removal of gnome-system-tools and ubuntu-desktop packages. and in system logs,
the x crash error message always appear before the line "gconf is not in use,
shutting down".
so i believe, the crash is caused by yesterdays auto-removal of
gnome-system-tools.
i check this out now, will reinstall gnome-system-tools

[Bug 22930] Re: Newly-sensitive button ignores clicks until cursor re-enters it

2008-06-26 Thread bsh
i have this "bug" (or i'd say, annoyance) too, on 7.04 with xfce (but in gnome
too) on several machines.
when i start synaptic, i used to move the mouse on the search button while it
loads the list, for a faster searching. but when the load completes and the
search button becomes active, it's not clickable - have to move the mouse off
it and than back, as described in the first post.

i wonder why this couldn't been fixed since years? strange. but i'm not
complaining, ubuntu is still a superb little OS. :)

[Bug 187335] Re: Unlock button throws an error, doesn't authenticate

2008-05-14 Thread bsh
I have the same problem here. When I log in to the pc, everything seems
to be working fine. However, when i log in from elsewhere, using vnc,
there are many things not working. Like the "unlock" button.

[Bug 227383] Re: After upgrading from gutsy to hardy, all controls in "Network Settings" window are greyed out, making it impossible to configure networking.

2008-05-14 Thread bsh
i have the same(problem), but, funnily, it only happens when i log on
the pc over vnc: unlock is greyed out, can't do anything. (and i have a
bunch of other issues, too...). when i log in locally on the pc, it
works well, but not over vnc.
