[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-04-26 Thread franco_bez
An other tought:

If the GNOME team refuses to fix this bug, why does Ubuntu still use gvfs for
samba shares?
Wouldn't it be easier to implement cifs in a way similar to pyNeighbourhood ?
I mean using cifs directly and not using the buggy gvfs-fuse GNOME software ?

It does not look very professional to newbie-users when a simple samba share
just does not work in Ubuntu.
I myself can easily work arround the problem, but my wife and my sister in law
they are lost.

It's getting really hard to confince people that Ubuntu is the better OS
when there are showstoppers like this bug.

I'm starting to get the impression that Ubuntu is on the way to copy
Microsoft's philosophy regarding bugs:
You have to keep the "prooven to be stable" bugs in the system. People might
get scared off when the bugs they rely on suddenly get fixed. ;-)

[Bug 1067668] [NEW] Evolution segfaluts loading Mail from Imap

2012-10-17 Thread franco_bez
Public bug reported:

Only with some E-Mails Evolution crashes with

evolution[8683]: segfault at 7f3844020de0 ip 7f3844020de0 sp
7fff67bcf8b8 error 15

when I just click them in my Imap Folder.

On my machine this is 100% reproduceable.
Click on the E-Mail - wait for about 1 minute - segfault.

The Emails in Question are working fine in thunderbird.

They all have been sent by a Samsung mobile phone.
All are
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;

I cannot find anything special in the Mail itself.

Very strange.

[Bug 920327] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 Power Settings Don't Work When Lid is Closed

2012-04-07 Thread franco_bez
In a dual montior setup "do nothing" blanks **BOTH** screens

Even worse opening the lid the monitors remained black, no matter what I tried
I could not get them back.
I had to reboot using "magic sysreq REISUB".

This behaviour is present in Oneiric and Precise on my ACER Laptop with
Intel Graphics Card

[Bug 854802] Re: User account manager does not start (closes immediately)

2011-10-14 Thread franco_bez
The problem is somehow triggerd by the installed languages.

I had English, German, French, Italian, Portuguise and Esperanto
installed on the machine that was affected by the bug.

Now I just removed all languages but English and German, and now the
user-accounts starts up as it should.

[Bug 555122] Re: Cannot adjust brightness in Lucid Lynx

2010-12-01 Thread franco_bez
Same bug here.

Just one strange thing:
Sometimes the Brightness Keys do work as intended, and sometimes they do not.

I have not yet figured out why.

When the Brightness Keys work my "dmesg | grep video" only shows:
[2.385961] ACPI Warning: _BQC returned an invalid level (20090903/video-631)

When the keys fail to work I have additionally:

[6.540549] ACPI Error: Evaluating _BCM failed (20090903/video-528)

[Bug 658069] Re: Empty files written over gvfs by some editors

2010-10-27 Thread franco_bez
smb seems to be OK with the packages from ubuntu-proposed.

But ftp still has some problems.
Although geany and scite seem to work OK now I got issues withquite basic
commands.

Testcase:

- connect a ftp share with nautilus.
- start a terminal and cd to the .gvfs/ directory
- then try the following

fra...@tm6292:~/.gvfs/FTP als franco auf 192.168.0.13/franco/test$ ls
fra...@tm6292:~/.gvfs/FTP als franco auf 192.168.0.13/franco/test$ for i in 01
02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 ; do echo "$i Test line of text" >> sample.txt ; done
bash: echo: write error: Operation not supported
bash: echo: write error: Operation not supported
bash: echo: write error: Operation not supported
bash: echo: write error: Operation not supported
bash: echo: write error: Operation not supported
bash: echo: write error: Operation not supported
bash: echo: write error: Operation not supported
bash: echo: write error: Operation not supported
bash: echo: write error: Operation not supported
fra...@tm6292:~/.gvfs/FTP als franco auf 192.168.0.13/franco/test$ cat
sample.txt
01 Test line of text

On smb shares the above testcase work as intended. I have had no
occasion to test WebDAV and ssh.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 660747 ***

I think this bug is more related to gvfs than to samba
This is why I decided to report the bug here.

The bug ONLY occurs when the share is mounted via Nautilus. (This uses
gvs, right ?)

When I mount the same share using the command line "smbmount" utility
(as root) everything works like it should.

[Bug 660955] [NEW] Maverick corrupts files on samba network shares

2010-10-14 Thread franco_bez
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 660747 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660747

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

I can reproduce the bug even on shares that reside on the same machine:

In Nautilus I right-click on a folder and chose "file sharing options"
to make it a writable share.

Then, again in Nautilus, I navigate to "network" and mount the share by
clicking on it and supplying username and password.

I created a new file on the share "sample.txt" with the following content:
01 sample line of text
02 sample line of text
03 sample line of text
04 sample line of text
05 sample line of text
06 sample line of text
07 sample line of text
08 sample line of text
09 sample line of text
10 sample line of text

Then I removed the lines 02 up to 05 from the file and hit save. Editor shows:
01 sample line of text
06 sample line of text
07 sample line of text
08 sample line of text
09 sample line of text
10 sample line of text

When I reopen the file the new content is:
01 sample line of text
06 sample line of text
07 sample line of text
08 sample line of text
09 sample line of text
10 sample line of text
07 sample line of text
08 sample line of text
09 sample line of text
10 sample line of text

I tried several editors, several servers providing SAMBA shares (Ubuntu Hardy,
Windows Vista, and my Maverick notebook)
The result is always the same.

A very, very nasty bug.

[Bug 593226] Re: gnome panels suddenly have a 25 second delay after session load

2010-06-23 Thread franco_bez
I had the same issue, the panels took a long time to start.

I didn't have the passwordless login enabled.

But turning "passwordless login" on, (remove the mark from "ask for
password" then click OK) and then turning it off again, (set the mark
"ask for password" and click OK) fixed the problem.

[Bug 494936] [NEW] SMTP not working while logged into CISCO VPN

2009-12-10 Thread franco_bez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu Karmic amd64
Evolution 2.28.1

When I am connected to the cisco VPN evolution cannot send E-Mails over smtp.
On the Terminal however I can connect to the smtp server on port 25 via telnet.

Receiving E-Mails through pop3 or imap works fine.
Just sending E-Mails is not possible. It just hangs with "sending e-mails 0%
completed".

The only way to get Mails out is to cancel the current operation,
then disconnect the VPN,
then send the Mails and
then reconnect the VPN.

This is really annoying :-(

any clues ?
