2010-07-11 Thread glass.dimly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-menus

Summary: unable to click items off screen due to scroll reset.

When menu items overflow off the screen, as per the screenshot,
scrolling down does not work properly.

One can scroll, but when leaving the scroll arrows to click the item,
the menu jumps back to the original position and you are unable to click

Installing devicekit-power from karmic proposed as suggested worked
perfectly for me.

Make sure to pin and add the proposed repositories as suggested here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed

Then,

sudo aptitude install devicekit-power/karmic-proposed

Thanks for your work!

My error is similar to this behavior, only not precisely this. My

blank. Karmic, current.

[Bug 437405] [NEW] gnome panel and nautilus crash after Hibernate/Suspend during connection through sftp

2009-09-26 Thread glass.dimly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Gnome panel, nautilus, and gedit crash when Nautilus and Gedit are
browsing text files through sftp connection and computer is hibernated
or suspended.

Not much else to report. This is a consistent problem for me. My system
information should be attached because I used the Report a bug feature
in Nautilus.

This is a serious problem that makes it rather pointless for me to
utilize suspend or hibernate. Suspend and hibernate are supposed to
save time, but when I encounter this problem I end up wasting about 15
minutes and losing all my settings, which defeats the purpose of suspend
or hibernate. I'd be glad to report more info, just tell me what.

[Bug 394099] [NEW] gedit find shortcut changed mysteriously for user

2009-06-30 Thread glass.dimly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

I'm on Ubuntu 9.04, gedit 2.26.1. The search shortcut, or ctrl + F, has
somehow been borked for my user. The root user retains that shortcut.

The shortcut that gedit thinks has taken its place, alt + x, is the
shortcut I assigned through System - Preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts
to close the current window. Alt + x doesn't search in gedit, it just
closes the window, just like everywhere else.

I've done a $locate gedit in my home directory and deleted all my
configuration files and replaced them with root's config files. This
didn't fix the problem.

How can I edit gedit's keyboard shortcuts to fix it?

[Bug 353356] [NEW] Gnome screensaver lock always reports incorrect password

2009-04-01 Thread glass.dimly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

When inactive, the screensaver locks the workstation. When logging back
in, I enter my password. This always returns incorrect password.

Workaround: hit Switch User log in as that same user with the denied
password, revealing the session that was logged out of.

I changed the password: sudo passwd. No change in behavior.

The question: where is it drawing the password from if not from the same
place that the regular login derives it? And how can I fix this
admittedly small but annoying problem?

[Bug 305030] Re: Failed to print document - can't prompt for authorization

2009-01-20 Thread glass.dimly
OK,

I found the blog entry that was linked to above:
http://blog.avirtualhome.com/2008/11/21/cant-print-in-evince-gedit-
claws-mail/ .

Apparently, in the /etc/cups/printer.conf file one can try commenting
out AuthInfoRequired username, password, such that it becomes

# AuthInfoRequired username,password
Info SlicerDicer

Now, the other option is to enter a valid user on your network. You can
do this through the GUI (system administration printing change
location ). Or, you can do it like so in the /etc/cups/printer.conf
file:

AuthInfoRequired username,password
Info PrinterName
Location LocationName
DeviceURI smb://user:password@/COMPUTERNAME/PrinterName

If this doesn't work, then it's truly a bug.

[Bug 312067] [NEW] Unable to add or modify users

2008-12-28 Thread glass.dimly
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu Intrepid with all updates, I get an error attempting to add
new users which doesn't save changes using the GUI and some problems
with the shell, too. I ran user-admin from a su root shell, and as an
admin user:

(users-admin:19686): Gtk-WARNING **: GtkSpinButton: setting an adjustment with
non-zero page size is deprecated
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are
that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS
locks due to a system crash. See http://www.gnome.org/projects/gconf/ for
information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not
receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a
reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout
expired, or the network connection was broken.)

(users-admin:19686): Liboobs-CRITICAL **: create_dbus_struct_from_user:
assertion `(login password homedir shell)' failed

(users-admin:19686): Liboobs-CRITICAL **: Not committing due to
inconsistencies in the configuration, this reflects a bug in the
application

Further, oddly, I issued this command
#sudo useradd ** -U -p** -b /home/***
And while a user was added, I was unable to log in using the user and password,
and when checking the user with the GUI, there were no settings configured for
the user.

So, what's the problem? Any ideas?

Thanks all

[Bug 296863] [NEW] Multiple locations don't scroll in Clock applet

2008-11-11 Thread glass.dimly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Hello,

First, thanks for a great system clock. I love it. It beats the hell
out of Windows.

One gripe: when adding multiple locations, if the locations go off the
screen (easy with a laptop, I can only see five-screenshot attached),
you can't see the extra locations. You can't scroll to them, either,
they're just gone. I am suggesting that you add a scroll like in the
gnome menu to the locations, so that when the extra locations go off
screen you can scroll to them.

thanks (and great applet!),

[Bug 295799] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon fails to start on login

2008-11-08 Thread glass.dimly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

I know this looks like a duplicate bug, but I don't think it is, because
I've tried everything I could find to fix this problem.

This bug was present in Hardy and persisted after upgrade.

Current system:
release 8.10
kernel 2.6.27-7-generic
gnome 2.24,1
compiz 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1

Problem:
gnome-settings-daemon fails to start.

I've tried the following as suggested in Bugs 287448 and 287760

sudo rm -f /usr/lib/libvisual-0.4/actor/actor_nastyfft.so
sudo mv /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstlibvisual.so libgstlibvisual.so.OLD

and gnome-settings-daemon --debug produces nothing from terminal.

My etc/hosts file is as follows:

#127.0.0.1 linuxhat
127.0.1.1 linuxhat.HATNET
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain
# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts

And my /etc/network/interfaces is as follows:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

As a workaround, I've added gnome-settings-daemon to startup, which is
fine, but boot takes longer, and it starts up with a dark blue theme and
then switches to the lovely brown (that everyone loves to hate on) once
the settings daemon starts.

What diagnostic information would be useful?

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 222957 ***

Hello,

Thanks for your response, but this bug is not a duplicate of the other
bug. The other fellow from bug #222957 couldn't add new bookmarks when
the disk was full, and was complaining of that there was no warning from
Nautilus.

In this bug,
**entire bookmark collection is deleted when drive runs out of space**.

These are related, but different.

[Bug 287914] [NEW] Nautilus bookmarks deleted when computer runs out of memory

2008-10-22 Thread glass.dimly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When the hard drive partition on which the OS is located runs out of
hard disk space, Nautilus bookmarks are erased. I'm using Nautilus
2.22.5.1 with Hardy Heron, Linux Kernel 2.6.24.21-generic, Gnome 2.22.3.

This may not be a bug, but I'm reporting it just the same so that you
all are aware of the problem and others might benefit from a workaround.

I have a system backup: can anyone tell me where Nautilus bookmarks are
stored on disk so I can restore them?

Finally, I'm just griping, but there was no warning. I was encoding to
FLAC instead of OGG by accident, and the drive filled up really quickly.
