[Bug 25488] Re: Evince blanks some pages, and keeps that in cache.

2006-07-14 Thread jdo
I tried evince in Dapper. The known problem (blanking a page when
selecting something) is gone. Evince is also more responsive.

The problem I reported was slightly different (opening other pdf's, and
doing a lot of other things), but I was never able to reproduce it. I
guess it is due to the same bug, and I assume it has gone also.

This bug can be closed.
Thanks.

[Bug 55278] Nautilus crashes on folder with many thousands of files

2006-08-05 Thread jdo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus shows a message that there are too many file to show them all,
if a folder contains more then 1 files. But if I continue to work on
that folder (selecting them all with Ctrl+A, deselecting a few, trying
to delete) nautilus freezes and crashes. During the freeze, it does not
use any CPU time, but there is no response and no graphic update.

I might depend on the available memory, since it takes sometimes a
minute before it crashes. And while I am working in that folder, the
total number of files on het bottom-left is still counting. The folder
was in icon-view.

After reducing the number of files to 1, I still got the message
(too many files to show them all), but Nautilus did not crash. And I
could easily delete them in two steps (in two steps, because I didn't
see them all).

Ubuntu: Dapper (upgrade from Breezy), with all updates.
CPU: AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1400
Memory: 512MB
Kernel: K7

I noticed that nautilus-dbg is available in synaptic, but I don't
understand gdb right now. Sorry.

The normal trace information with bugbuddy is attached.

Meanwhile, I gladly got rid of those many (15000 ... 2) files.

[Bug 55278] Re: Nautilus crashes on folder with many thousands of files

2006-08-06 Thread jdo
Unable to repeat the crash.

I created as many as 10 (hundred-thousand) files, and tried opening,
selecting, icon view, list view, strange file names, text and non-text
contents, etc. but nautilus (the normal version, not the debug version)
performed okay.

Perhaps the names of the files, or the contents of the files has
something to do with it. But I don't have my original files anymore, and
those files caused a crash every time.

Perhaps this bug can be suspended or closed (for now).

[Bug 56457] gnome-session-properties: Running a script in a subdirectory with spaces in name is not possible

2006-08-15 Thread jdo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Trying to run a script at startup with the gnome-session-properties was
not possible. It has to do with spaces in my directory names.

I have added it to the gnome-session-properties program in 'start
program' tab (System > Preferences > Sessions > Startup Programs), but
my script is not executed.

This will work: My script 'startup.sh' in my home directory, and adding
"sh /home/jdo/startup.sh" to the list.

However, If I add this to the list: "sh /home/jdo/Scripts and
Settings/Bash Scripts/startup.sh", the script is never executed.

I tried everything with double quotes, and backslashes before the
spaces. Using the brows button, or typing it directly. There seems to be
some kind of translation of the text after I click Ok. The result
however never works.

Ubuntu: Dapper of 15 august 2006 with updates, upgraded from Breezy.

[Bug 56457] Re: gnome-session-properties: Running a script in a subdirectory with spaces in name is not possible

2006-08-16 Thread jdo
Workaround

The workaround is simple. Edit the file ~/.config/autostart/nice.desktop
directly (the file might be called different when viewed with nautilus,
like "No name").

Now everything is like normal and next lines with both work:
sh "/home/jdo/Scripts and Settings/Bash Scripts/startup.sh"
sh /home/jdo/Scripts\ and\ Settings/Bash\ Scripts/startup.sh

But I have to remember not to press the 'edit'-button on that line in
the 'start program'-tab of the gnome-session-properties. The gnome-
session-properties do indeed translate the text: all double and single
quotes and backslashes are removed. And that is the problem.

[Bug 24388] Re: Nautilus problems with 1000+ files in a folder

2006-09-04 Thread jdo
Still very strange: Case sensitive sorting order.

In dapper (with all updates) the sorting order is now:
   t1, t2, t4, t5, T3

The name with capital is now at the end, but I would like a case-
insensitive order. Just like a simple ls.

The other problem (number 1) with sorting order in a map with many files has
been solved, as I wrote before.
The slow problem (number 3) is still a problem, and dapper seems even slower. I
have to check that and will make a seperate bug/request later.

[Bug 60269] Evolution won't send inline images with spaces in name

2006-09-13 Thread jdo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution has a problem if an image or the folder of the image contains
a space in the name. The image is not stored when the message is saved
as a draft, and the image is not send.

This is only a problem if the image is placed in the message. Those
images as an attachment is no problem.

To test it: Create a file like: "test test.jpg" or jpg files in a folder
with a space, like: "test test". Start a new e-mail message, add those
jpg files in the message. You can send it ofcourse, or you can save it
as a draft, en see how it looks in the Draft folder with the preview
(but don't open it).

Workaround: Remove spaces from the names of the images, or send them as
an attachment.

[Bug 155472] Multiple firefox launchers on panels get mixed up

2007-10-21 Thread jdo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

With Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) I created side panels and a drawer on a side
panel.
Next I installed a few application launchers for firefox to specific webpages
in the panels: in the standard top panel, in the side panels, and in the drawer.

The command lines are like this:
   firefox file:///home/jdo/Documents/page1.htm
Or something like this:
   firefox -new-tab "file:///home/jdo/Documents/page2.htm"

Every time I restart, something has changed. An application starter could be
emtpy, or one could be copied to the other etc.
It seems that they get mixed up in ~/.gnome2/panel2.d/default/launchers
The next lines are a part of the directory listing (the top file contains the
newest firefox launcher):

[Bug 78756] Re: photo import does not work any more

I had the same problem (hang when trying to import) after updating to

twice. After the reinstalling it shows my camera once.

[Bug 110065] unable to import photos after update to feisty

2007-04-25 Thread jdo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

After updating to Ubuntu feisty (7.04) I can no longer import photo's
from my camera. I tried the '386' and 'generic' kernel and the 'desktop'
LiveCD, all have the same problem.

I write a message at the bottom of Bug #78756, but decided to start a
new bug. Bug #85879 looks alike, but the fix metioned in Bug #103439
didn't work. And my camera (04a9:30f8) is already listed in

Connecting the camera : The "import photos" dialog shows, but hangs 9 out of 10
times. If it works, I can import photos, although a ptp error is shortly shown.

gphoto2 -L : hangs, also with sudo.
gphoto2 -P : hangs, also with sudo.

The following is a part of the debug output for "gphoto2 -L". After
that, it is repeating to open a PTP session and trying to write.

workaround:
(1) take the memory card from the camera and use a card reader.
(2) use ptpcam from the libptp package ( http://libptp.sourceforge.net/ ), this
works very well, but the syntax of the sources have to be changed to be able to
compile them.
(3) use libgphoto-2-2 package of ubuntu 6.10 (edgy eft), this is not a nice
solution and causes some errors.
(4) wait for newer version.

[Bug 112575] gedit does not save to a new file if other program changed the file

2007-05-05 Thread jdo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

If a text file is open in gedit, and that text file has been altered by
another program (e.g. a search and replace program), then gedit can load
the new content, or keep the current content. In both ways some
valueable changes to the text could be thrown away. So I decided to save
the content of the gedit editor to a new file, so I can compare them
with a diff program like kdiff3. But saving in such a situation is not
possible, and no error messages is shown either.

Test:
1. Create a text file with some text, close gedit.
2. Open the text file with gedit, leave it as it is, or make some changes.
3. Open the same text file with another program (mc, mousepad, etc.), and make
some changes in it and save it.
4. Select the gedit window, a yellow bar is shown that something has chanched.
5. Try to save the content of gedit to a new file with different name or the
same name in a other folder, or create in the "save as.." box a new folder and
save it there.
6. See if you can find the just saved file. It's nowhere!
