[Bug 418244] Re: Error connecting to the Yahoo network

2009-11-07 Thread jeff...@brewstergraphics.com
I tried it in Karmic, and it still doesn't work. I can't believe you
would close the thread because one person got it to work?! There's
thousands of us with the same problem, Karmic or no. FIX YOUR SOFTWARE

[Bug 477639] [NEW] Empathy "Network Error" logging into Yahoo (Karmic - 9.10)

2009-11-07 Thread jeff...@brewstergraphics.com
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

I am on Karmic, and it gives me a "Network error" . I tried putting
"cn.scsa.msg.yahoo.com". Didn't work. Frustrating because there are no
settings to try. When I first created the account, it said
"authentication error", then network error every time. I am not running
any other chat accounts, but I have Pidgin (not configured). I need to
use Empahty, because it's supposed to work with video chat, which pidgin
does not. It's a real Ubuntu-breaker since I use only Yahoo IM.

[Bug 418244] Re: Error connecting to the Yahoo network

2009-11-08 Thread jeff...@brewstergraphics.com
Thanks, Rob for clarification. I noticed mine acting like this: it will
sometimes say "authentication error", then "network error" immediately
following. But usually it's the "network error". I have tried my user
name with and without "@yahoo.com", which works for you? The Empathy
does show up in the envelope icon in 9.10. I found it easier to just
delete the account each time I wanted to try new settings, because I am
not confident "edit account" gets it, until you quit and restart. Also,
I am making sure I have logged into Yahoo.com in Firefox before trying
this. The frustrating thing is there aren't very many settings at all.

I was just reading your post again, Rob, when you said that you "disable
and re-enable the protocol" which protocol? Or do you mean you are
disabling and re-enabling the account in "Edit accounts"?

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released

Bug description:
Binary package hint: empathy

Can not connect to the Yahoo network neither with accounts imported from
Pidgin, neither newly created accounts. Even changing the server to
scsa.msg.yahoo.com, or the encoding from UTF-8 to anything else does not
help.

Maybe this is because the recent changes in the Yahoo messenger protocol
(latest protocol version being version 16), however, Pidgin seems to
work fine, and as far as I know telepathy-haze is based off libpurple,
so it should work for Empathy too.

[Bug 31037] Re: Vino-server takes 90% of cpu when only listening for incoming connections

2009-11-14 Thread jeff...@brewstergraphics.com
I use Karmic as well. Just realized that was happening when my frame
rates went to sh&* while watching a movie online. 99-110% CPU?! and we
haven't figured this out since 2006??? Disturbing, very disturbing...
