[Bug 520303] [NEW] Random bad behavior with dual-head system
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus On the second display of a dual-head (non-xinerama) system, Nautilus on the second head will develop random problems. This includes not responding to mouse clicks on tree expansion, toolbar buttons refusing to work, and a constant busy mouse cursor. Moving the mouse pointer to the first head and back again resolves the issue (usually). This never occurs with a Nautilus session on the primary display, even when Nautilus is active on both screens. [Bug 519529] [NEW] gnome-display-properties can't change resolution after full-screen app crash
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon This is a problem that goes back to 8.04 (Hardy Heron) and probably earlier. If a full-screen application changes resolution and later crashes (or hangs and is killed by the user), the screen is not restored and g-d-p can't seem to change it. For example, I just had a DarkPlaces (enhanced Quake engine) game hang on exit on Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala). The game was set to 1024x768 while the normal desktop resolution is 1280x1024. When I killed it from a VT, the screen was left at 1024x768. When I attempted to change it back to 1280x1024 using g-d-p, it accepted the change but nothing happened. The solution (as always) is to use a terminal window and issue the command: xrandr -s 1280x1024 I'm don't know if the problem is with g-d-p not making the change request or the daemon not applying it. The logs don't show anything. This occurs with my new Radeon HD 4770 [RV740] using fglrx and my old Nvidia GeForce 7300 and I've encountered it on many different systems I've built both x86 and x86_64. ** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-display-properties can't change resolution after full-screen app crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/519529 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 490676] [NEW] Places side pane gets confused with nfs mounts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I'm on Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) using Gnome 2.28.1 and the included Nautilus. To get around brainstorm #456 I have multiple nfs mounts in fstab with noauto and user options similar to: server:/srv/archive /home/user/server/archive nfs defaults,noauto,user0 0 These show up as unmounted drives in the Nautilus places panel. If I click on one it mounts but usually instead of adding the up-arrow icon to the existing place to show that it is mounted, it duplicates the place at the bottom of the list and adds the arrow to the duplicate. If I click on the original place again I get an error message like Unable to mount archive mount.nfs: /home/user/server/archive is busy or already mounted. Other open Nautilus windows duplicate the pane. Sometimes it will report a different nfs mount as if the places entries are mismatched from the names shown. Sometimes all unmounted places stop responding to mouse clicks (won't mount) while the mounted entries act normal. Sometimes a new Nautilus window opens when Browse media when inserted is checked, sometimes the existing window is used. Sometimes I'll get a DBus NoReply error. Sometimes a timeout error waiting for the mount to appear. Sometimes closing all the Nautilus windows (but not killing the primary Nautilus process) corrects the places panel, sometimes not even when the process is killed. Unmounting all the nfs mounts and closing the windows seems to fix it (usually). The usuallys could imply a timing bug of some sort. All of this is normal to Nautilus as there is nothing in the logs. I also noticed that the icons for nfs and nfs4 places are different with the nfs4 icons being generic drives. I'm not sure if that is related or not. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Places side pane gets confused with nfs mounts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/490676 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

users-admin works much better on Intrepid (8.10). [Bug 251337] [NEW] Shutdown from XFCE returns to login if inbound ssh session active
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm (split off from bug #196816) On Ubuntu Hardy Heron, if an inbound ssh session (from another system) is active, a shutdown initiated from an XFCE session fails to shut down the system and instead returns to the login screen. With a Gnome session the shutdown proceeds normally. An outbound ssh session, from tty1 for example, does not inhibit the XFCE-initiated shutdown sequence. On Xubuntu Intrepid Ibex Alpha 2 this occurs with both XFCE and Gnome (added via ubuntu-desktop). Neither will shut down if an inbound ssh session is active. I can't see any differences in the logs between a Gnome-initiated shutdown and an XFCE-initiated one. Logging in and bringing up gdmsetup again shows that instead of the one I selected, Circles and Happy GNOME are selected with the Theme setting set to random. ** Attachment added: Screen shot of gdmsetup after relogin http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8789025/Screenshot-Login%20Window%20Preferences.png -- Installing a gdm theme changes Selected Only to Random from Selected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122213 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 99276] Re: User and Groups does not inform user that manual UID already exists and create user groups.
I just encountered this same issue on a new Feisty (7.04) install when I attempted to create a user name of staff. As is default in Ubuntu, USERGROUPS=yes in adduser.conf so each new user gets their own group. The group staff is a Ubuntu default with a GID of 50 so it couldn't be used. No messages were displayed by users-admin and I didn't figure out what the problem was until I tried to use adduser which informed me the group already existed. -- User and Groups does not inform user that manual UID already exists and create user groups. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99276 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 120753] Nautilus refuses to give up copying lock file
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Because I'm impatient and too lazy to set up a local repo, I often copy the apt cache off a new system so I can copy it to other systems I'm setting up. If I copy any file along with /var/cache/apt/archives/lock as a non-root user, Nautilus pops up an error that it Error while copying...lock cannot be copied because you do not have permission to read it. If I cancel or skip it, it ends up trying to copy it anyways and the Copying files dialog stays up. Nautilus is still responsive but hogs the CPU. I have to kill the process to get rid if it. I've run it out of a terminal window but no messages are displayed. This may be another manifestation of Bug #39482 ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Nautilus refuses to give up copying lock file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120753 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 117066] Directory duplication when creating tar
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: file-roller GNOME file-roller 2.18.1 tar (GNU tar) 1.16 When a tar archive of a directory with subdirectories is created from within Nautilus using right-click Create Archive, the resulting tar contains duplicate subdirectories. Opening the archive in File Roller doesn't show the duplicates. Extracting the archive doesn't produce any errors unless the original directory structure used relative symlinks in such a way as to cause some targets to be attempted to be extracted twice. The duplicates are viewable from within Midnight Commander. Running File Roller directly and creating a new archive does not result in duplicates in the tar. The only clue is obtained by running Nautilus from a terminal: (file-roller:7668): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_file_system_path_to_filename: assertion `path != NULL' failed ** Affects: file-roller (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Directory duplication when creating tar https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117066 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for file-roller in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 117066] Re: Directory duplication when creating tar
This is an update for Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns by Loki. It uses relative symlinks which result in an error upon extraction when a faulty archive is made from it. Extract the contents with subdirectories. From Nautilus, right-click and Create Archive (tar) with File Roller. Open archive with Midnight Commander, duplicate subdirectories will be present. File Roller shows no duplicates. Extract tar with either app - errors will result. ** Attachment added: Kohan update archive with relative links http://librarian.launchpad.net/7844033/kohan-1.2.0-x86.tar.bz2 -- Directory duplication when creating tar https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117066 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for file-roller in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
