Ahh OK,

i'm using feisty. I'll maybe switch to gutsy when the new ATI drivers (the
proprietary not the OS ones) support my old R300 and AIGLX.
This Bug can be closed then, i think.

[Bug 149984] evolution sorts replies to older topics by the old date

2007-10-06 Thread juve
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi i'm a happy evolution user,
but there's one very annoying bug:

I ususally don't delete mails. And because of that a a reply that
somebody sends only after weeks will be grouped to and attached-under
his last mail about that topic. There are hundreds of mails between
todays mails and his mail (which is also from today)

Here's an illustration of my inbox:
(every word/line is an email, -- and are tree branches, like evolution
uses when grouping mails)

today
today
today
yesterday
--yesterday
today
some_days_past
some_days_past
some_days_past
some_days_past
more_days_past
more_days_past
very_old date
---yesterday
today

As you can see, replys to old mails are very far down the list.
A solution would be to sort the mails by the date of the last children and NOT
by the date of the root.

The tree would then look like this:

today
yesterday
--yesterday
today
today
very_old date
---yesterday
today
today
some_days_past
some_days_past
some_days_past
some_days_past
more_days_past
more_days_past

Which makes much more sense imho.
I just checked my gmail acccount: google-mail does it, like i want ;)

Thanks,
Juve

[Bug 112810] gnome-theme-manager does not apply background style

2007-07-04 Thread juve
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I set up 2 custom gnome-themes incl. background images, which the theme-manager
can apply since feisty (afaik).
But choosing either theme and appling the background-image doesn't change the
style of the background (zoom,tiled,scaled,...)

to reproduce you have to set up
theme 1 with a bg-image which should be fitted to the screens width, i.e.
background-style = zoom
theme 2 with another smaller bg-image which should be displayed more than
once, i.e. background-style = tiled

try switching between those themes and pressing the Apply
Background-button and you'll see that the bg-style won't change.

[Bug 112810] Re: gnome-theme-manager does not apply background style

2007-07-04 Thread juve
It happens with every theme.

Again try these steps:

* choose clear looks
* change your desktop background and set style tiled !!!
* back to thememanager
** click on customize and change something (e.g. engine to clearlooks) and go
back
** save the theme as Test1 and choose to save the Background

* choose clear looks again or any other
* change your desktop background to another Image and set style zoom !!!
* back to thememanager
** click on customize and change something (e.g. engine to crux) and go back
** save the theme as Test2 and choose to save the Background

Now try switching between those themes and press the Apply button for the
Background.
You will see that the BG changes but not the BG-style it will stay at zoom if
zoom was you last choice in the backgroundchanger.

This means the new save BG feature within thememanager is not fully
functional. It does not handel the Desktop-Background-Style. It's not a
problem of a specific theme. It's the managers fault.

[Bug 59840] soundfonts (*.sf2) get wrong MIME Type video/x-msvideo

2007-06-21 Thread juve
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm experimenting with timidity and wrote a script to load/change soundfonts.
Soundfonts have the extension .sf2
I changed my SF2-files to open with... my script.
But now every avi-Video want's to be opened with my script

I guess there's a wrong MIME Type for SF2 or some misdeclaration of the
x-msvideo MIME Type

Thx for any help.

System: Ubuntu Dapper 6.06
I will try to fix it for myself. If i find a good solution i'll post it here so
that Edgy won't have this Dapper bug

I still think it's a bug (usability-bug). Let's see if i get some answers from

[Bug 111749] Re: nautilus takes very long to scan home folder

2007-05-20 Thread juve
Ubuntu 7.04.

I've just checked everything again. The speed with preview disabled is fine now:
 1 sec to startup
1 sec to show my folders
1 sec for file-open dialoge (e.g. in gimp)

I now enabled preview again and it's still fast:
 1 sec everything

I don't know when the speed was OK again, but i compiled and installed
CVS mesa drivers (using r300) and mesa drm recently, so maybe it was a
driver issue. I'll try regression testing with fglrx (or mesa from the
repos) again if i have time, (maybe next week).

[Bug 115791] gimp zoom does not pan the image to cursor position

2007-05-20 Thread juve
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Ubuntu 7.04
Gimp 2.2.13

When zooming in and out, gimp doesn't pan the image to the actual
position under the cursor. It always centers the image and forces you to
scroll around very much, which is especially annoying if you work at the
pixel-level (i.e. very close zoom) of a larger image.

Pan-to-Cursor-Zoom (as already implemented by Inkscape and F-Spot) in
general is much more comfortable than manual scrolling/panning. E.g.
if you want to go from a closeup of one part of an image to a closeup of
a part that is very far away from the first one -- at higher zoom levels
nearly every other part of the image is far away -- you currently have
to do the following:

a) carefully (i.e. slowly) scroll tho the position using the scroll bars:
move, grab bar handle, carefully move, release, move, grab other
handle, carefully move, release, maybe repeat all these steps.

b) scroll using the mousewheel:
carefully scroll up/down, hold a modifier key + carefully scroll up/down,
maybe repeat

b is much faster/easier but still has the problem, that fast scrolling
results in an image that is flashing far too fast over your screen
(because of the high zoom level). In both cases it is very likely, that
you'll scroll too far, i.e. you'l need higher precision and more
concentration to scroll the image to the right position.

It would be much better if the zoom would pan the image in a way that
the current pixel the cursor points at will stay under the cursor when
zooming. The the previous scenario can than be easily completed by:

1. simply zoom out (no precision required)
2. move pointer to new center of interest
3. zoom in (low precision required)

As i said: this kind of zoom is already implemented by Inkscape and
F-Spot, where it works very well.

[Bug 115776] gimp text layers are very hard to click

2007-05-20 Thread juve
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After adding some (small) text to some image, i always have problems
klicking on the text with the move-tool selected. It's very hard to aim
for small/thin letters and NOT to click and move the layer behind.

to reproduce:
Open gimp, load an image, add some small (!) text and try to move the text
using the mouse. It is very likely that you'll click the image layer instead.

[Bug 111749] nautilus takes very long to scan home folder

2007-05-02 Thread juve
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus takes very long to scan home folder

Nautilus usually starts in the home-folder, at my computer i takes about 12
seconds until i can interact with the application.
The same holds for some File-Open dialogs which start in my homefolder (e.g.
gimp) where i have to wait very long until i can save/open my files.
There are currently 34 folders and 169 other items (428.7MB) excl. hidden files
and folders, which is not that much. There are images, videos, jars, html-files,
tgz-archives and all kinds of stuff i throw into my home folder. I assume that
i behave like a normal user ;).

It is very annoying to have to wait for nautilus again and again. It
ALWAYS takes so long, even if not a single file of my homefolder
changed.

I propose following solution:

Put nautilus-preview-generation in a separate thread and show a simple
filelist as fast as using the ls command on the console. Then replace
the entries of the list succesively as the preview data ia generated.

Nautilus must provide interaction facilities from the first second it is
started. Location-bar, filesystem-tree, bookmarks and the menu-bar in
general should be operationable. If one of those interaction elements
changes the detail view, the current preview thread must be killed and a
new one must be started.

[Bug 111747] Re: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu broken in opera

2007-05-02 Thread juve
I tried to select the package: opera, but it told me that there's no
opera package. Searching for packages with opera found no matches,
so i decided that it's bug-buddies fault, because bug-buddy opened this
webpage. The Problem is that i don't have enough time to search and
register for all bug-reporting-sites for every custom project. So i
expect -- as ist is done with gnome-related bugs -- that someone who's
already registerd to those sites can forward the bug.

If this behavior is totally wrong then i'll try to better myself
