[Bug 782690] Re: Picasa upload not secure: asks for Google Password

2012-04-07 Thread mlissner
> That said, there's no indication that ClientLogin is any less secure
than OAuth. ClientLogin is just old.

False. The whole point of OAuth is that users don't have to trust random
software. I'm new to Shotwell, and it's asking me for my gmail password.
How do I know (how could I ever know outside fo reading the codebase)
that you aren't trying to get into my email? Doing so would allow you:

1. Access to my money through paypal and online banking
2. The ability to hack my servers (through poking around through logs and such)
3. To steal my identity
4. Basically to ruin my life for a while.

On top of this, when apps innocently ask users for their password, it
teaches users bad behaviors, since they become accostomed to giving out
their password to random applications. Not a good situation.

Email requires *incredibly* high levels of security, and Shotwell should
*never* ask for a user's password to it.

[Bug 630383] Re: Gnome-terminal paste keyboard shortcut does not work

2011-01-17 Thread mlissner
I believe this is related to having the menu shown. I was having the
same problem, turned on the menu so it was visible, and then tried
pasting again, and the problem seems to be fixed. I've even closed and
reopened the terminal, and it seems fixed. Perhaps it will return after
a reboot?

[Bug 79030] Re: gnome-video-thumbnailer uses all available CPU power when using bittorrent

2009-07-07 Thread mlissner
I'm a little disconcerted that this bug has been around for so long, and
yet that it is still marked as low priority. Sure, it's not a crasher,
but any application that is using 100% CPU is a big problem, in my
opinion.

The solution for this seems pretty obvious and easy to program. I wonder
if we can get it nominated for the 100 papercuts, or somehow get it
triaged for the next release?

The remote bug watches are showing bug 559788 as unconfirmed, but it's
been marked as a dup. The bug we want to be watching (which is marked as
resolved fixed) is here:

It looks like this bug can be closed, I think.

2009-01-26 Thread mlissner
Thanks for the info - that makes sense.

I don't deliberately use gvfs-fuse mounts - I thought gvfs-fuse-daemon
did things behind the scenes. Honestly though, have no idea what it
(fuse, gvfs) actually does or if I use it. Maybe you can tell me if I
use it.

I can't figure out how to trigger the lock. I wish I could.

[Bug 320581] [NEW] gvfs-fuse-daemon halted with futex_wait signal

2009-01-23 Thread mlissner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs-fuse

Since installing intrepid, I have had trouble with programs freezing.
>From what I have determined, it is caused by thread locking, and gvfs-
fuse-daemon.

The way to make it happen seems to be to use my computer for a while,
and then sooner or later, a program freezes. When it does, if I open
system monitor, it will show the waiting signal for the frozen program
to be futex_wait, and will show the waiting signal for gvfs-fuse-daemon
to be futex_wait.

I've tried to find information about futexes, but the web is pretty
quiet on the matter. This bug seems similar to bug 303190, but I think
it's different.

The only solution I have found to this bug is to kill the application that is
frozen. This has happened to:
 - gnome-panel
 - gnome-do
 - firefox
 - eclipse
 - python
 - getty (I think)
 - and a few others

Every now and then my computer freezes, and I think this is the culprit
because if this happened to a process like gdm, it would cause me to be
unable to figure out the waiting channel.

Also, I'm not sure if this helps, but I installed with the encrypted
drive option via the alternate installer.

If there is anything I can do to provide a less subjective bug report,
I'd love to help, but I've little idea where to go from here so this can
be confirmed.

I've attached a screenshot of system-monitor at the time of the current
futex_wait lock-up.

[Bug 272189] Re: title bar unread count incorrect

2008-10-28 Thread mlissner
I am having this problem with the version of Evolution released with
Ibex RC1. I've run Evolution from the terminal, but not with anything
interesting. I have about six IMAP accounts, and my search folder shows
about -1279 unread, -1664 total...there are about 15 in reality.

Anything I could do to help fix this would be a pleasure.

autofill with names from your address book, like the TO: field does in

people from your address book.

[Bug 164804] Re: Gnome Login Error

2008-01-20 Thread mlissner
I can comment, that when I had this problem, it was out of the blue. I
do have a static IP (as mentione above), but I had had it for a long
time when I had this problem. I am pretty sure it is related to gnome-
applets because my solution was to purge and then reinstall that
package. I don't think it is related to samba or multiple logins
because I don't have any of that going on on my personal laptop...

If it helps, there's a somewhat lengthy (and growing) thread about this
here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=608767
