I have done as indicated, but the application menu still does not show up for Nautilus. It shows up for other applications, but not Nautilus. I have System Settings > Appearance > Behavior > Show the menus for a window == In the widnow's title bar This works for all of the other applications that I've run, but not for nautilus. Is there no way to get the menu back in nautilus the same as for the other apps? Update: The problem (for me at least) appears to be that pulseaudio was not starting on login. This bug affects me as well. I am using an up-to-date Ubuntu Karmic amd64. w/ gnome-panel 1:2.28.0-0ubuntu6 w/ kernel 2.6.31-21-generic We have around 30-some-odd users, but only one user is affected by this bug. The user is not using compiz. All user home areas are mounted via AutoFS, but the user's home area physically resides on the machine that she uses the most often. (I have not tested the bug on machines that require an NFS mount yet.) All user authorization is managed via LDAP. After moving the user's home directory to another machine the bug followed. Machine #1's video: nVidia Corporation C79 [GeForce 9400] (rev b1) Machine #2's video: ATI Technologies Inc M76XT [Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT] Each time this bug happens, the following error can be seen in the log files: syslog:Apr 30 10:23:48 uca kernel: [ 65.540326] gnome-panel[2662]: segfault at 7f80dd5a4f08 ip 7f80de698f00 sp 7fff6a0b8ef0 error 4 in libc-2.10.1.so[7f80de623000+166000] To reproduce: Power the machine off Power the machine on Log in -- 99% of the time the user's panel will be blank. Gnome-panel does not respond to clicks and the user cannot log out or start a terminal. Using ctrl-alt-delete, the user can log out (users are not allowed to reboot or shut down, but clicking on reboot or shut down will log them out). A subsequent login will work fine. [Bug 481315] [NEW] Update Manager fails to install updates, clicking Install Updates button has no effect
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp Sometimes when updates are available, the Update Manager window will appear. Sometimes, clicking Install Updates will have no effect. This only seems to happen when the Update Manager window appears on it's own. If I select System Administration Update Manager, then the Install Updates button will work just fine. (I've had this problem with my 9.04 installation too, but not with 8.10.) This happened on a second Ubuntu machine (this second one is running in VirtualBox on an OSX machine). I have an strace log to contribute, it it's helpful.
