[Bug 1162475] Re: [hostnamed] Changing hostname doesn't update /etc/hosts

2014-07-02 Thread philinux
Just noticed this in 64 bit 14.04 which is fully up to date.

systemd-hostnamed[8656]: Warning: nss-myhostname is not installed.
Changing the local hostname might make it unresolveable. Please install
nss-myhostname!

I've identified the cause.

Would you believe it. I was caused by having seconds displayed in the
clock. Unchecking seconds stopped the high cpu activity as evolution-
calendar-factory went to sleep

I'm now interested in the bug fix!

[Bug 1019995] Re: gksu nautilus will not display icons correctly or at all

File recovery is one use. http://askubuntu.com/questions/78691

But if you google gksu nautilus live cd you will see the scale of it.
There are masses of tutorials that recommend its use. I just assumed all
these years that it was normal work flow.

@Dmitry,

Any idea why this very useful feature was removed I dislike the white
background.

And why are there no plans to restore it?

[Bug 791208] [NEW] Evolution is still forgetting pop3 passwords

2011-06-01 Thread philinux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Created this as previous bugs are marked as invalid.

It seems random. I've three accounts set up. It could be all three or
just one that gets this. Is it a time out problem?

What info is needed to nail this. It's been going on far too long and is
a real pita.

2011-05-12 Thread philinux
Same here. Natty clean 64 bit install.

Unable to perform search.

This query did not complete successfully. Cannot connect to the
service's server.

Calendar and contacts do appear to be syncing though. Contacts seems
more variable.

[Bug 616334] Re: Error while Fetching Mail. Cannot get message ADWwktkAADdlTE7QPgYtBwhKLYo: Input/output error

2010-08-11 Thread philinux
Arrrgghh. I had set up the web based account to forward to one of my
other accounts.

I set it back to pop enabled and EVO asked for the yahoo password. Put
in the password and now no errors!!

Infuriating but back to normal now. During this episode it was also re
downloading old emails so I had multiple duplicates.

I'll keep an eye on it and if it happens again I'll do the debug thing.

[Bug 616334] [NEW] Error while Fetching Mail. Cannot get message ADWwktkAADdlTE7QPgYtBwhKLYo: Input/output error

2010-08-11 Thread philinux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This just started on my pop yahoo account.

It fails on message 1 of 13 therefore no emails from this account are
downloaded. Other accounts work fine.

I've removed the account and the set it up again. I've deleted the pop
folder for this account too.

If I log in to the web for yahoo there are no obvious problems and my
Palm Pre is receiving emails just fine from this account.

[Bug 292585] Re: Evolution Mail Notification has no sound

2010-06-10 Thread philinux
Using Lucid 10.04. No notification sounds.

Added this .wav file to /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/message.wav and changed
this key value
/apps/evolution/eplugin/mail-notification/sound-file in gconf-editor
It now works. Seems it does not like .ogg files.

Should be a simple fix the devs can do easily. Just convert the default
sound file to .wav

I think MSN are responsible most likely as I had no problem until

[Bug 284366] Re: GNOME has ~4 seconds idle during startup

Disabling Compiz cures this as a workaround, desktop effects none. I
think the problem is with compiz not gnome or maybe a combination of
both.

the correct timestamps.

[Bug 157396] Re: Copyng a file to a NTFS drive change the date and the time of the file

2008-06-22 Thread philinux
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 215499 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/215499

Just done all proposed update.

Connected digital camera via usb. Imported photo's via F-spot and Gthumb only
to fine that the date modified was todays date, ie the creation date on my pc,
and not the date the picture was taken. Previously files imported in gutsy had
the date taken as the modified date.
Within the properties window under the image tab is the correct taken date.

[Bug 227701] [NEW] libtotem-narrowspace-plugin.so will not play this mov file

2008-05-07 Thread philinux

Binary package hint: totem

This emdedded mov video will not play, the browser just sits there and does
nothing.

If i choose save link location and save it to the desktop, playing it with
Totem causes it to open then closes immediately with no error message.
Mplayer plays it but stutters badly. VLC can just about play it.
