[Bug 2050865] Re: GNOME Wayland session crashes with libmutter:ERROR:../src/core/window.c:...:meta_window_get_work_area_for_logical_monitor: assertion failed: (logical_monitor)

2024-06-10 Thread Sergio Conde Gómez
Hey Daniel, I stopped having the crashes when I self-built debs for
46.0-1ubuntu9 +
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/3691 patch, and
I've later used the debs you linked.

However, I have Ubuntu's tiling extension disabled (had crashes with
46.0-1ubuntu9 even with it disabled) because I use gTile and Ubuntu's
extension does weird things, like the preview rectangles not
disappearing after moving a window.

Sorry for the delay. Yes, it is because of that. In Gnome 46 is a new

and I want to use it, but I'm waiting for 24.04 to go out because it
would be a big change, and I don't want to risk a LTS.

The port to Gnome Shell 45 of Desktop Icons had a bug that prevents it

put icons under it. This bug has been fixed in upstream, so it should be

[Bug 1779890] Re: Nautilus does not use a valid Kerberos ticket when accessing Samba share

2023-02-22 Thread Sergio Costas
I found something odd... Setting KRB5CCNAME in /etc/environment does
work, but setting "default_ccache_name" in /etc/krb5.conf doesn't. In
theory, when KRB5CCNAME isn't set, kerberos should use that value for
the cache file. And although the command line tools do use it, it seems
that gvfsd doesn't...

[Bug 1779890] Re: Nautilus does not use a valid Kerberos ticket when accessing Samba share

2023-02-17 Thread Sergio Costas
I found a workaround for this: to define the KRB5CCNAME environment
variable at /etc/environment.d/91kerberos.conf

In my case, I store the cache file at ~/kerberos, so I set the content
of that file to:

KRB5CCNAME=${HOME}/kerberos/krb5cc_${LOGNAME}

So, if my username is "username", this results in the environment
variable set to

/home/username/kerberos/krb5cc_username

After doing this, the tickets are preserved between reboots.

Can anybody test this to ensure that it fixes the problem, please?

It's not random, at least in my system. Also, the tricks in that bug

Installing a fresh install of Lunar, everything works fine. Updating
Gtk3, LibVTE, Cairo and other libraries doesn't make it fail. But doing

There is no new version neither of Gnome Terminal, nor of Gnome Shell,

[Bug 1917362] Re: PAM: smartcard owner isn't associated to user by default

2021-04-21 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Hi Iain,

AFAIK there is no pending upload to fix this bug on Hirsute -- is there?
The only work I've done was to backport the patches mentioned in the
Description and upload the package to a PPA. Unless Marco has made an
upload, of course.

[Bug 1920690] [NEW] File chooser dialog cause flatpak applications to hang in KDE

2021-03-21 Thread Sergio Callegari
Public bug reported:

Flatpak seems to have serious issues on kubuntu 20.04, at least with
some applications that immediately hang when a file dialog is shown.

One of them that makes the issue well reproducible for me on kubuntu
20.04 is shotcut
(https://www.flathub.org/apps/details/org.shotcut.Shotcut). Just install
it and then press the "Projects Folder" button in the "New Project" to
make the app hang.

Trying the more recent flatpak on the ppa:alexlarsson/flatpak ppa, which
is at 1.10.2 provides a slightly less catastrophic outcome, since the
app doesn't hang. However the "open" button of the file dialog does not
work and the dialog cannot be closed.

The issue may have to do with the xdg-desktop-portal-kde rather than
flatpak itself.

2020-10-01 Thread Sergio Costas
AFAIK, if you launch a gnome session, and then you return to the ubuntu
session, you shouldn't lost your configuration. So maybe you can do a
test in the gnome shell session to check if the patch works, thus
allowing canonical to integrate it, but use the ubuntu session for your
day-to-day work. Someone here that confirms this?

Re: [Bug 1883174] Re: Some desktop icons disappear

2020-09-30 Thread Sergio Costas
Yes, I understand. But it seems that the ubuntu session blocks new
versions from extensions.gnome.org. AFAIK, they did that to avoid a new
version from the repository to overwrite the official, tested one. So it
seems that you will need to use the gnome shell session instead. But the
other extensions will work in both sessions, at most you will only have
to enable them again.

2020-09-30 Thread Sergio Costas
Oh, ok... Now I understand. You simply can't install the official desktop
icons in the Ubuntu session. You must install gnome-session, choose gnome
shell session instead of Ubuntu session when logging, and there you can use
the extensions.

Of course, you may want to also install dash-to-dock, that gives you the
left dock, and kstatusNotifier.

[Bug 1846776] Re: Renaming a desktop item causes the shell to hang

2019-10-04 Thread Sergio Costas
I did several tries yesterday, but none of them worked. First I tried to
remove the "emit" calls and the "addSignalMethods" in desktopGrid, just
in case the problem was an incompatibility with the new class system in
Gnome Shell 3.34. Also removed all the grabHelper calls, but also didn't
work. The problem seems to be the text entry, that is not editable.

Re: [Bug 1021375] Re: Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

2019-06-25 Thread Sergio B
@h23 if you are seeing the same behaviour in the terminal the Nautilus is
not the problem. Your USB is write protected or your computer is picking it
up like that for some reason.

You can insert the USB Stick and then run:

dmesg | tail

To see the system log. There you can see if the write protection is turned
on. If you see something like `Write Protect is off`then you should be
okay, otherwise the USB Stick is protected.

[Bug 1768012] [NEW] Long pressing using a touch screen stays sticky

2018-04-30 Thread Sergio Schvezov
Public bug reported:

One way to reproduce. Using just the touch screen:

- short press firefox from the launcher
- in firefox, go to a website
- find a link on the website and long press on a link
- a context menu shows up (to do something like "Copy link").

After that set of actions, ever short press on the screen simulates a
right click, attaching a trackpad/touchpad also produces a right click
for what should be a left click.

A long press anywhere reproduces this, I just wanted to give and actual
useful use case.

[Bug 902128] Re: Please transition gtk engines to multiarch

2017-09-10 Thread Sergio Callegari
On zesty the issue is still present.

A minority of the engines have transitioned to proper multiarch support
(e.g., oxygen-gtk). Most of them seem to still have conflicting amd64
and i386 packages (e.g., aurora). Some have the .so file implemented the
engine in legacy places (nodoka).

[Bug 1635023] Re: Regression: quotas prevent yakkety from booting (boots once every ~4 attempts)

2016-10-30 Thread Sergio Callegari
Sorry, I'm not understanding your comment.

What I understood is that the systemd developers said "It is not our
responsibility if ubuntu does not boot, this is not a systemd bug! In
fact, the issue in booting is caused by some quota related units,
shipped by Ubuntu, that are not part of systemd". Then, I saw that the
faulty systemd units are shipped with the "quota" package, just as you
say. Yet, the upstream quota package does not contain these units. The
systemd quota related units and scripts are a downstream ubuntu (maybe
from debian) addition (in fact, they live in the debian dir of the
package).

This is why I was reporting that the systemd developers suggest that
this is a downstream bug (a bug in the Ubuntu distro), not an upstream
bug (a bug in systemd 231).

I never implied that ubuntu forgot to ship some units. I'm only saying
that the quota units shipped with ubuntu evidently mistake something,
because when they are masked the system boots, otherwise it doesn't.

Possibly, the issue is only triggered if one has quotas+lvm2+fake or
soft raid. This may explain why the mistake got unnoticed when it
slipped in.

I suppose that this bug should be fixed by the maintainers of the quota
package in ubuntu, possibly with the help of the systemd maintainers.

[Bug 1635023] Re: Regression: yakkety does not boot (boots once every ~4 attempts)

2016-10-26 Thread Sergio Callegari
Got it! Sort of...

Misabling quotas make the system boot reliably.

No clue why. It may not be a race, rather the fact that the initial
quota check is supposed to happen only in certain cases.

No idea. Debugging boot with systemd is beyond my expertise.

Masking the systemd quota.service (the initial quota check) seems to be
sufficient to enable a reliable boot. Still I see failures on shutdown
related to the disabling of the stuff in fstab.

[Bug 1635023] [NEW] yakkkety boot is erratic

2016-10-19 Thread Sergio Callegari
Public bug reported:

After an upgrade from xenial to yakkety, the system does not boot
reliably. Only 1 boot over 3-4 seems to succeed.

Quite often, the system seems to hang during boot and then drops into an
emergency prompt.

Pressing esc during the boot to show what is going on reveals that there
are processes waiting for the disks to become ready.

This is likely to be related to the specific system configuration, with
a raid array of two disks managed by dmraid (it is an intel fake raid)
and lvm2 on top of it. Most stuff is on it in logical disks, but for the
boot partition that is on a fast ssd, and the root of the filesystem
that is on lvm2 with a physical volume spanning the rest of the ssd.

The very same configuration worked just fine on xenial.

To make the matter worse, it is impossible to boot in "recovery mode" to
get a root prompt, because after you login as root something suddenly
times out and the screen gets messed up (not a graphics card issue, but
pieces of messages popping out here and there, the recovery mode menu
suddenly reappearing, etc.

Please give this bug appropriately high priority, because it prevents
servers from coming up after power failures.

[Bug 902128] Re: Please transition gtk engines to multiarch

2015-03-06 Thread Sergio Callegari
I guess there is no hope for this. Still present in utopic.

Installing a gtk 32 bit application on a 64 bit ubuntu system gives tons
of warnings about the wrong elf class (ELFCLASS64) for the engine and
the applications shows completely unstyled.

I see this with the nodoka engine.

Furthermore, trying to install the 32 version of the engine causes the
64 bit version of the engine to be uninstalled and viceversa because
without multiarch they conflict with each other.

Plus there have been tons of duplicates not marked as such, one for each
possible engine, at times even leading to a solution.

For instance,

[Bug 1330430] Re: apparmor profile needs review/improvement

2014-07-21 Thread Sergio Gelato
Other suffixes are affected besides .pdf. I've just spotted some
incidents in my logs involving denied read attempts on .epsi, .ps2 and
suffixless application/postscript files. Since .epsi is listed as valid
in /etc/mime.types I've now added the following to
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.evince and verified that it allowed .epsi
files to be opened:

  /**.[eE][pP][sS][fFiI23] rw,

However, one could argue that file types can and should be detected
based on the file's content, not on its name.

[Bug 1344810] [NEW] etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince should allow /run/user/*/gvfs-metadata/**

2014-07-19 Thread Sergio Gelato
Public bug reported:

/etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince has a line

  @{HOME}/.local/share/gvfs-metadata/** l,

However, it is possible (seen on trusty) for session state files to be stored
under /run/user/uid/ instead of ~/.local/share/ . Please consider adding
  owner /run/user/*/gvfs-metadata/** l,
to the apparmor profile.

Moreover (but this may be worth discussing and tracking separately) I've
seen evince being denied r access to gvfs-
metadata/home-[[:xdigit:]]+.log . I'm not sure what it needs that access
for, but maybe there is a legitimate need?

[Bug 1272999] [NEW] Totem does not find proper codec package to install

 Do you have libhybris installed?

Yes, but incidentally indirectly as I want the header files.

Re: [Bug 1229066] Re: evince-thumbnailer can't run mktexpk

2014-01-08 Thread Sergio Gelato
* Sebastien Bacher [2014-01-08 16:57:52 -]:
Thanks for your bug report. Could you add an example for such dvi file?

I cen try and construct one that reproduces the issue on my system, but
there is no guarantee that the same choice of font will reproduce the
problem somewhere else: that depends on the history of the individual
system (specifically, on whether the pk files for the font in question
have already been generated and cached).

That would make easier to reproduce/debug the issue

With texlive-fonts-extra installed, try the following. If you happen to have
used font t2c-iwonami in the past, try with a different font. Note the
Permission denied errors when running evince, and the decision to
substitute a (very) different font for the one that was requested.

$ tex testfont
This is TeX, Version 3.1415926 (TeX Live 2009/Debian)
(/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/plain/base/testfont.tex

Name of the font to test = t2c-iwonami
Now type a test command (\help for help):)
*\table

*\bye
[1]
Output written on testfont.dvi (1 page, 9320 bytes).
Transcript written on testfont.log.
$ evince testfont.dvi

kpathsea: Running mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 600 --mag 1+0/600 --dpi 600
t2c-iwonami
/usr/bin/mktexpk: 1: /usr/bin/mktexpk: /usr/share/texmf/web2c/mktexnam:
Permission denied
mktexpk: / already exists.
/usr/bin/mktexpk: 210: /usr/bin/mktexpk: /usr/share/texmf/web2c/mktexupd:
Permission denied
kpathsea: Appending font creation commands to missfont.log.
page: Warning: font `t2c-iwonami' at 600x600 not found, trying `cmr10' instead

Running the above resulted in the following dmesg entries:

[ 2112.341075] type=1400 audit(1389252767.990:36): apparmor=DENIED
operation=exec parent=3320 profile=/usr/bin/evince//sanitized_helper
name=/usr/share/texmf/web2c/mktexnam pid=3342 comm=mktexpk
requested_mask=x denied_mask=x fsuid=1000 ouid=0
[ 2112.475442] type=1400 audit(1389252768.122:37): apparmor=DENIED
operation=exec parent=3320 profile=/usr/bin/evince//sanitized_helper
name=/usr/share/texmf/web2c/mktexupd pid=3347 comm=mktexpk
requested_mask=x denied_mask=x fsuid=1000 ouid=0

The problem goes away if one runs the command that was saved in ~/missfont.log
and runs evince again on the same .dvi file.
