Public bug reported: When the flashing icon for a new mail message appears in the notification-area, it disappears correctly when the new message is opened. [Bug 13090] Re: Nautilus sound preview doesn't work with OGG files.
This feature did not work for me until I installed vorbis-tools and mpg123.
