[Bug 104223] In sessions goes to login

2007-04-07 Thread shirishag75
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

I have been experiencing random GUI login while being inside of session. Also
the session is not saved as it is. as in graceful shutdown.
After few minutes, hrs. suddenly one is kicked off the existing
session & dumped back to the login screen. The system does not go to halt, or
reboot or anything like that. It just takes you to the login. When one logs
back in, then all the things one was working in the session just before is not
there. Although all the changes of work have been saved by the various
applications. It is as if there was no session in-between.

[Bug 104507] changing time through time-admin does not reflect on the applet

2007-04-08 Thread shirishag75
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Hi there,
First of all I did not want UTC & have local time on my desktop.
While I did this at setting up somehow the values were not stored/taken etc.
Then I tried also changing through the right-click Preferences also proved
ineffective, Then somebody on IRC advised me to go through some /etc/some
file (do not remember) & commented out UTC there which proved to have local
time. I use local time as I have 2 OSes & the local time is given in the BIOS
clock. Due to events such as bug #104091 i have had to change the time. To
change the time I have to right click the clock, choose Adjust time & date
which in turn shows the time-admin enter my user password, which shows my
time-zone (Asia, Calcutta) , Configuation (Manual) . While I can change the
hr. by just entering the no. I cannot use the minute . I have to use the up &
down arrow key to do that. After doing that, there is no ok there, so I just
hit enter & close it. The time meanwhile does not change in the time-applet and
the only way I can see the time-change is through removing the clock from the
gnome-panel. Then again adding clock to the gnome-panel (but this loses my
preferences which I have done as a 24 hr. thing rather than 12 hr.) . I thought
somebody might have reported it but seems nobody has hence reporting it. I did
see somebody reporting it in herd 1 way back, hence was confused whether to add
my stuff there or make a new bug. In the end decided to do the later. Lemme
know if you need more info. Thanx for your time.

[Bug 104091] Re: time jumps ahead 10-20 minutes no matter the ntp server

2007-04-08 Thread shirishag75
Hi Sebastian,
First of all thanx for the fascinating read. Although I did
visit the debugging of some problems there was nothing about how to debug the
clock applet. Also this phenomena/event happens over period of time. My
computer is usually on 24/7 . I usually do my stuff, have some torrent or the
other running in the background and go to sleep. Wake up after few hrs. then
start playing/working whatever. I have not been able to time it when the change
occurs but it is a general occurence which happens within 24 hrs. Now I do not
know how to narrow it down. If u do have some way or some idea maybe some
script or something which keeps a watch on how the clock is performing I am
willing to do it as this improves things for everybody. Incidentally this may
or may not be related to bug #104507 . That bug is reproducible all the time
every time. Am I doing something wrong? Please lemme know. Thanx in advance.

Using version 7.04 . I do not know what u mean by new user , I actually

like maybe 10-15 days back for about an hr. or so. The graphics chipset

2007-04-11 Thread shirishag75
ok would try that, just to inform the number of things which were tried so
everybody knows.
actually the command which u gave in the morning DISPLAY=:0 metacity
--replace && use to give a warning

shirish @ubuntu $ Window Manager manager warning "found in
configuration database is not a valid value for keybinding
"toggle_shaded"

which escalated to the afternoon to :-
shirish @ubuntu $ Window Manager manager warning "found in configuration
database is not a valid value for keybinding "toggle_shaded"
Window Manager error= " Unable to open X display 0"

which further escalated when trying to use the same route
(CTRL+ALT+F1) on console :-

shirish @ubuntu $ Window Manager manager warning "found in configuration
database is not a valid value for keybinding "toggle_shaded"

xlib: connection to "0.0" refused by server
xlib: No protocol specified

Further things tried by seb128 :-

gconftool --2 --get /desktop/gnome/application window_manager/default ?

/usr/bin/metacity

failed to get a value for '?' Bad key or directory name '?" Must begin
with a slash (/)

was asked if there was any .dmrc directory in /home/username which
was replied in negative

was asked to move the file ~/.gnome2/session which had no effect

then tried sudo apt-get install --reinstall metacity_common which
again did not result into anything better

The only solution which works in the meanwhile is typing
'metacity' without the quotes in terminal brings all window decorations
etc.

Micah Cowan will try moving ~/gnome too & will report how it goes but
tomorrow morning, as its already past 12 a.m. here.

Actually it was pretty easy, when I moved .gnome2 out of the way,
by customization to the applications which are saved during the session,
those were gone but i can happily live with that, as more important is that

[Bug 104091] Re: time jumps ahead 10-20 minutes no matter the ntp server

2007-04-12 Thread shirishag75
[quote]
The bug lacks informations like the version of Ubuntu you are using. The
gnome-panel runs in user space and can't change the clock, why do you think
it's due to it? Does it happen if you don't use the desktop? It could be your
computer clock shifting. Does it happen if you don't log into GNOME or use an
another environment? [/quote]

The version of Ubuntu used, Feisty Fawn 7.04 . Ok I do not hink forger
meant the clock applet is due to the panel but he did not know where to
categorize it. Ok I have not tried not using the desktop. As far as the
computer clock shifting is concerned, checked both in BIOS & XP and
things are cool.

[Bug 104507] Re: changing time through time-admin does not reflect on the applet

2007-04-12 Thread shirishag75
[quote]Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Do you
display the seconds? Does it change correctly on the next minute update?
Your description is long and not easy to understand, could you do a one
line summary of the bug and how to trigger it?[/quote]

1. Feisty Fawn
2. nope no seconds
3. It should but do not know if its related or not to another bug #104091
4. one-line summary :- sure to change time from x to y the adjust time & date
it does not reflect.

Although now with the recent updates it seems to have solved the
problems.

[Bug 106714] whenever press x gnome-terminal opens another window, instance

2007-04-15 Thread shirishag75
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Hi,
I had installed fish (interactive shell) and then did some updates. Over
the period of few hrs. it was working nice, after some updates whenever i was
pressing 'x' (without the quotes) on the keyboard, Thinking that perhaps its a
fish (the interacitve shell) bug I removed it by doing chsh back to bash
(/bin/bash) but still the behaviour is persistent. So maybe its not fish's
fault at all. I am uploading all the files related to bash in the hope somebody
finds something

[Bug 105390] Re: window manager crashes/does not work

2007-04-19 Thread shirishag75
when I was asked to move the .gnome2/ directory I moved it into the windows
hard disk so there would be no issues. When asked to do .tar.gz did the same
by moving it back but onto desktop so that there would be no issues like that.
Btw I have upgraded to the 1.9.94 but it still happens intermittently
sometimes going from -15 to -12 solves the issues sometimes not. Then have to
resort to repair kernel, enter gdm at the prompt, do some work for sometime,
then do a normal shutdown then the next time I use any of the kernels the
system works. Although the brief flash after logging in still happens. I'll be
doing a clean install day after tomorrow, in case if you guys want me to run
some tests please lemme know.
This is crazy, I thought I had reported this but apparently not,
sometimes when the screen goes blank even the virtual terminals tty1-6 are not
accessible. I have to use magic keys or hard boot . Many a times when I do the
(ALT+SYSRQ+S), then (ALT+SYSRQ+U) then (ALT+SYS+B) to reboot but even after
doing tht most of the times it fails, whenever the screen goes blank I have to
try these 2-3 methods whichever gets me the desktop after GDM is good for that
time, and times after that. Feels like some .config for that session is saved &
carried over to the next.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: aclock.app

For somebody who is using the the adjust time-date the first time the
user is unable to know tht hitting enter at each box where he enters the
time or date (not synchronizing with time servers). There needs to be
an OK button which does the same effect. I do not know whether the
