[Bug 1175230] [NEW] Split-screen (F3) missing in Nautilus since 13.04

2013-05-01 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
Public bug reported:

Since 13.04, the F3 key to split the screen in Nautilus doesn't work. I
understand this was removed because it didn't work with touch screens,
but I (and many others) do not use touch screens, and I miss the
functionality, which was quick and easy and useful.

Please restore it.

[Bug 989770] [NEW] Refuses to load images where the file extension doesn't match the actual image type

2012-04-27 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
Public bug reported:

I was browsing the images in /usr/share/backgrounds. All show a
thumbnail in Nautilus.

However, using eog to dispay /usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-
ubuntu.png gives an error message:

"Could not load image 'warty-final-ubuntu.png'. Fatal error reading PNG
image file: Not a PNG file"

Apparently this file is called *.png, but is actually a jpg.

I don't see any reason why eog can't display it anyway, since it's still
an image file, and it can see that by looking at its magic number.

[Bug 988209] [NEW] eog -n doesn't behave as expected

2012-04-25 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
Public bug reported:

doesn't. In fact "-n" seems to have no effect at all.

[Bug 984356] [NEW] Clicking symlink to a non-mounted disk gives misleading error message

2012-04-17 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
Public bug reported:

If you have a symlink to a disk that is not auto-mounted, then clicking
on it gives an error message like "The Link "My Pictures" is Broken.
Move it to the Rubbish Bin? This link cannot be used, because its target
"/media/Acer/Users/Steven/Pictures/My Pictures" doesn't exist."

For a beginner this message is startling, and suggesting that it should
be deleted worrying, and not particularly helpful.

The best option from a usability point of view would be to mount the
disk, but I bet that's hard to do.

Second best, do not offer to delete it, and say something along the
lines of "The file or directory that "My Pictures" links to
(/media/Acer/Users/Steven/Pictures/My Pictures) is not currently
available. You should check that the disk is mounted."

[Bug 978699] Re: After searching for a file, it is hard/impossible to find where it is located

2012-04-11 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 923823 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/923823

Well, why does one search for a file? I knew it was in there somewhere,
I knew approximately what it was called, and I wanted to find it. So I
used the Nautilus Go>Search for files (ctrl-F) functionality. But I also
wanted to know *where* it was stored, since I needed other files from
the same location. In the end I had to resort to the 'find' command in
the shell, but that shouldn't have to be necessary, Nautilus could
provide the information easily.

When you say "all is fine" do you mean they have added a method to go to
the enclosing directory, or that the field in the properties box is no
longer shortened? (Or both?)

[Bug 978699] [NEW] After searching for a file, it is hard/impossible to find where it is located

2012-04-11 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
Public bug reported:

If you search for a file, you get a list of files that match the search,
but there is no right-click option 'open containing folder' for a file.
Worse yet, if you ask for the file's properties, the location field is
shortened to only show the initial part, so you can't even see where the
file is located.

[Bug 920989] [NEW] Nautilus Papercut: can't use navigation buttons in 2 pane view

2012-01-24 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
Public bug reported:

When in two pane view, you have an active and a non-active pane. At the
top of each pane there are the breadcrumb navigation buttons, showing
the path to get to the current directory, and allowing you quick
navigation back in the tree.

You can only click on the breadcrumb buttons on the active pane; they
are deactivated on the non-active pane. This is a nuisance.

[Bug 886198] [NEW] Nautilus crashes when getting properties of a file on a DVD drive with no region code set

2011-11-04 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
Public bug reported:

I had a new machine where the DVD drive had no region code set/ While
trying to work out why I couldn't play DVDs, despite having installed
CSS, I was trying to look at the properties of files on a DVD. Nautilus
would then crash.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 782411] Re: Could not read DVD. This may be because the DVD is encrypted and a DVD decryption library is not installed.

2011-11-04 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
I was having this problem too. I had installed CSS , I could see and
browse the DVD, but it wouldn't play.

I could play unencrypted VOBs, but not encrypted ones.

If I did a "Show properties" of an encrypted VOB, Nautilus would crash.

I eventaully traced the problem: no region set on the DVD drive. I was
getting the following messages on dmesg:

 [ 167.329314] sr 2:0:0:0: [sr0] CDB: Read(10): 28 00 00 00 02 a2 00 00 02 00
 [ 167.329332] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 2696
 [ 167.335004] sr 2:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK
driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE
 [ 167.335015] sr 2:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : Illegal Request [current]
[ 167.335024] sr 2:0:0:0: [sr0] Add. Sense: Media region code is mismatched
to logical unit region
 [ 167.335035] sr 2:0:0:0: [sr0] CDB: Read(10): 28 00 00 00 02 a2 00 00 02 00
 [ 167.335053] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 2696

Solution: install and use regionset.

Still, this should be fixed centrally: Nautilus shouldn't crash, the
message from mplayer should include the warning that a region code may
not be set.

[Bug 641641] Re: Lose netbook main menu if screen is repositioned

2011-07-09 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
Natty is *much* worse for dual screens. Putting screens above each other
doesn't work at all for me (one of the screens gets garbled). Putting
them next to each other puts the Unity bar in the wrong place in both
cases, one slightly worse positioned than the other. Because of this it
is hard to see if this particular bug is replicated there.

[Bug 752696] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()

2011-05-14 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
I was trying to burn a CD of Natty. I inserted a blank CD, and answered
the popup that I wanted to burn a CD. I searched for the iso, copied it
to the blank CD, and clicked on 'burn'. It asked if I wanted to burn the
contents of the iso or burn it as a file. I answered with 'contents',
and it crashed. This was repeatable.

However, if instead I first searched for the iso, right clicked and
selected 'Burn with brasero', it worked fine.

[Bug 433592] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()

2011-05-14 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
More info: If I insert a blank disk, and answer the popup that I want to
burn a disk, then search for the iso image and copy it to the blank CD
folder and click on burn, it crashes.

However, if I search for the iso, right click and select 'open with
brasero' it works fine.

[Bug 641641] [NEW] Lose netbook main menu if screen is repositioned

2010-09-17 Thread ste...@pemberton.nl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

This is with 10.4 netbook remix. I attached an external monitor, and
positioned the laptop screen to the bottom left of the external screen.
It was no longer possible to get to the main Ubuntu menu as a result,
which was presumably still positioned to the top left. Consequently I
couldn't restart the display configure program to reposition the laptop
display back to its old position, nor do anything else.
