Both of those teams were very good. One played in their conference
championship game. Boise state was a good win. They just beat a team
that beat oregon and played in their conference championship game. WVU
was no slouch. They just lacked consistency. There were just as many,
if not more, respectable OOC wins in the SEC than other
conferences.

Nice try Braveheart, but your *erste nacht* law would be
unconstitutional, violating the fourth amendment protections, and
probably others. Your city council would be quickly smacked down by
the hammer of justice based on existing, superseding law. In your
hypothetical example, the cops would be pursuing the city council to
rescue Murron, and your protesters would be the ones obstructing the
cops because they don't have an (unnecessary) warrant to search the
council gang bang chamber.

In the real example, the cops were well within their authority to
pursue the fleeing suspect.

In general, the law is very well thought out, and deliberated over by
a lot of intelligent people with a lot of experience. The exigent
circumstance exceptions are a limited set of circumstances that give
limited extended authority when it is needed. It's not a bullshit law
that allows "the man" the bang your girlfriend.

2011-07-19 Thread steubens
it's very easy to tell udev this, but you have to do it manually; i do
the same to tell it what format the card reader can read, you'd need
some list of major/minor versions and what they are to do this
automatically, at least that's the conclusion i came to when i tried to
figure out how to automate it

the key word here is udev though, that is where the properties are
assigned

[Bug 711429] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2011-07-18 Thread steubens
i figured out a way to reproduce this crash! :D (and the crash you still
get with the bodge)

it happens when you select one of the files you just deleted, before
they've left the view. to help do this i copied 30-40 mp3 albums into a
separate folder, entered that folder, then picked the top 8 or so; held
shift and pressed delete

immediately after hitting enter to dismiss the warning dialogue i hit
the down arrow key a bunch of times; if you succeed the focus will
change to one of the files in the selection, with the wrong icon, and it
will immediately crash thereafter

turns out this is what i was doing every time i triggered the crash ;]

prevents immediate crash."

i haven't had it happen in a while, but when it does it happens in the

[Bug 802276] [NEW] brightness adjust 3 steps from hard (Fn) keys

2011-06-26 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

the brightness adjusts in 3 steps, i thought it was annoying but
adjustable in gconf; finally investigated and saw it wasn't :]

if i echo 0 > /sys/module/video/parameters/brightness_switch_enabled it
reduces one of the extra steps

if i killall gnome-power-manager i get no backlight adjustment, from my
understanding its solely responsible, but i can't find the extra
brightness event input, acpi_listen shows the video adjustment, as does
input-events 4 (the video device)

X opens the video event device as an input but i don't know if that
means g-p-m will see it as another event

hoping someone can tell me more about g-p-m and where it gathers events
so i can finish investigating, or solve the bug outright :]

[Bug 697358] Re: Regression in window list applet (wnck-applet) behavior

2011-06-17 Thread steubens
lores: you might try and file another bug for that, this one is already
pretty messy and that's a separate thing, the original problem (though
the title has been changed) is attributed to compiz and does appear to
be fixed here.

still dunno why this is targeting libwnck; it's a change in drag
behaviour with the wm, dragging stuff onto quick launch icons are also
broken when this behaviour is observed, try it

[Bug 788382] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slice_alloc() when ejecting drive

2011-06-06 Thread steubens
i couldn't figure out how to get nautilus to keep from spawning, i
copied the autostart .desktop to .local/share/applications and changed
it to not autostart but apparently that didn't override the main one; i
also tried nautilus -q, and searching for whatever gconf keys are
restarting it, to no avail; pedro, if you know or know where i can ask
someone (i already asked on #nautilus on gimpnet, not many people
around) i'd appreciate it

yes, but the crash site is usually more like the one in bug #651931,
i've just been reporting it every time i trigger it by clicking in the
client area, theres probably more than one crasher depending on when you
click before it initially paints the window/resizes it

[Bug 697358] Re: regression in window list applet (wnck-applet) behavior

2011-05-02 Thread steubens
sebastien i love you! but this bug doesn't apply just to wnck-applet,
but the entire panel; create a launcher and try dropping a file on it
when the window switcher doesn't work, it's the same thing, could the
title or the initial message be amended to include this? you've marked
the other bugs that actually hilight the problem as a duplicate of this
one, which is just one of the symptoms (the one that catches me all the
time is dropping things on icons, the window switcher is just a small
annoyance)

i need to learn to be less hyperbolic, i thought someone actually

i don't know how; but, it works for a while, then stops working (like it
doesn't know what the cursor is over, aside from the outer window), it
works again for a while after compiz --replace

2011-04-07 Thread steubens
this seemed to have broke during the transition from devicekit-power to
upower; and looking in gnome-power-statistics confirms that it's not
collecting samples for the data it uses to generate the estimate; as
upower doesn't provide it for my battery (i don't know for sure if it
offers it at all on other batteries, though) where devicekit-power
provided _something_

[Bug 754261] [NEW] applet apparently shows the status of 2 batteries and status wont change from "estimating ..."

2011-04-07 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

this worked correctly as far as i can remember in 10.04, showed
different symptoms in 10.10 after an upgrade

but after a fresh install of 10.10, 2 items in list, and the upgrade to
natty alpha, then beta it's remained the same

i've discharged the battery several times, hoping to tease some
confidence out of the statistics behind the number, but it refuses to
offer any information besides "estimating"

[Bug 740756] [NEW] dragging files/folders onto launcher icons, or over taskbar buttons no longer works

2011-03-23 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

you used to be able to drop files/folders on launcher icons to invoke
the application with them as parameters, this no longer works in natty;
it adds a launcher instead

related, and as equally, excruciatingly annoying, dragging over a
taskbar button will not bring that app to the foreground for a drop
anymore, and if you drop it on top of the switcher it creates a launcher
to the right of it.

i can understand why this might be desirable, but i've used launchers in
this manner, and dropping on apps for as long as i've used gnome ...

[Bug 739916] [NEW] gnome-mouse-properties doesn't offer touchpad options for 2 finger clicks

2011-03-21 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

with natty and the newer kernel, the driver for my synaptics touchpad
(which does not do multitouch, but has heuristics for some 2 finger
gestures) added a 2 finger right click, which is on by default even
though the heuristics for it working, along with 2 finger scrolling are
very bad. first thing i did was go to the mouse applet to disable it
only to find it wasn't there.

having heuristics off by default and having ui to turn it on (and adjust
the thresholds for the heuristics) might be useful, as it is i can't use
2 finger scroll reliably either, but there is ui to enable it, without
the threshold

[Bug 718873] [NEW] "safe to remove" notice shows up before drive is ready to be removed

2011-02-14 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

i suspect this is because this message is shown after a sync, but if you
remove it before you see it actually disappear in the list of volumes in
nautilus you get various errors about not being able to send scsi
sync/flush commands

steps to reproduce:
1) plug in drive
2) sync before eject, or leave it idle so theres nothing to write (not required
but helps)
3) eject, pull when dialogue says its' ok and before it disappears in nautilus

expected: volume already be synced and gone before that dialogue appears
actually happened: unplugging the drive will make the "safe to remove" notice
disappear, but a few seconds later you get an error box talking about scsi
"sense" failures and trying to flush the drive cache

i didn't take a screenshot last time, but i'll try to remember to take
one

[Bug 686130] [NEW] crumb bar in file dialogue leaves junk in location box after navigation

2010-12-06 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

in the example image the crumb bar shows "ohsix, crap, acm-5.0, dis"

if i navigate to dis, then click on acm-5.0, "dis" is put in the location box
(it is selected)
if i click on crap, acm-5.0 is put in the box and selected.

in nautilus this sort of behaviour is desirable because it will put you
back where you were in a large folder as you navigate back, but in file-
roller if you are trying to extract to the parent, or any directory in
the crumb bar, you have to pick the location, then deselect the folder,
it is highly desirable that there is nothing selected, and the location
bar remains empty from these operations.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10
Package: file-roller 2.32.0-0ubuntu1
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.37-7.18-generic 2.6.37-rc3

ok, i can no longer test for this bug, as the package version of
nautilus from proposed apparently went away (apport said it didn't
exist, and sure enough it didn't! now i'm getting the plain old boring
crash from the other bug)

[Bug 683972] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke() ejecting drives

it looks like it may be related to one usb drive i have; and the way
that it sleeps, (it's a samsung story 1tb) i don't have this drive with
me at the moment, so the window to interleave ejects to reproduce the
bug isn't large enough

2010-12-02 Thread steubens
@Dmitry Shachnev, new report and apport stuff here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/683972

checking if it does it every time under stated scenario will have to
wait until tomorrow, it is late.

posting this here, from apport on other bug only because it is really
odd that all the information matches #29 exactly:

SegvAnalysis:
Segfault happened at: 0x44c5a6: mov (%rax),%r14

 destination "%r14" ok

stack is the same, too.

still doesn't catch assertion failures and i'm running into them more

i thought i should add that i almost always have the extra pane open
(F3) when this occurs, the drive being ejected is only in one tab on one
pane. i've also noticed with a single pane, it tends to crash every
_other_ drive ejection; i can get away with ejecting one, but the second
one crashes it.

"just after started up and mapped", mapped is an X term; it is when the

before the document is painted in, if you click when it is gray, it will

[Bug 651931] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in clear_job_selection()

2010-10-19 Thread steubens
it's any given pdf, i was able to reproduce it with several; you just
need to click before the document area is redrawn/resized

heres a handful:
http://delivery.acm.org/10.1145/107/1066954/p1231-mcpherson.pdf?key1=1066954&key2=7358983711&coll=GUIDE&dl=GUIDE&CFID=15151515&CFTOKEN=6184618
http://vis.cs.ucdavis.edu/~ogawa/apvis07ogawa.pdf
http://vis.cs.ucdavis.edu/~shearer/papers/pixelplexing.pdf
http://www.firstamendmentcenter.org/pdf/SOFA.Sept.2010data.pdf

essentially every pdf in my download history; because thats what i
verified it with once i realized what did it, i'd had it happen long
before that but never figured it was clicking in the client area that
did it.

the timing in the bug i posted, that was marked duplicate here; that is
the key to at least the bug i posted, remains to be seen if its an
actual duplicate i guess
