[Bug 1081510] [NEW] Nautilus shortcut 'forward slash' doesn't start location on text location bar
Public bug reported: Until very recently, having Nautilus open, I have been able to hit the forward slash key on the keyboard ( '/' ) and this would commence the first character in a path location, within the text location bar. The buttons will have disappeared for this to occur. Now, when I hit the forward slash key, nothing happens. ctrl-L still works, but this is slower, as first I have to make this key combination, THEN i have to hit slash to start my new path. [Bug 482597] Re: Empathy dialpad tones don't work
I just had the same problem; Couldn't find a dial-pad. Assumed there was none. Used twinkle instead. Having read someones post, I was surprised to notice that he had an image of a dial pad in empathy. I needed to read the instructions real carefully, because; 1, you can't get to the dial-pad unless you are actually already in an active call 2, once you are in an active call, finding the dial-pad is tricky. You have to KNOW it is there. It is like looking for a secret door in a room. You can open it if you know it is there to find. If you don't know it is there, or perhaps even you know it is there, but not which corner of the room, you never find it! The best solution I can think of is simple; On opening the 'New Call' dialog, the user is presented with not only the 'Account' field and the 'Contact ID:' field, but underneath that (and above the 'Call' and 'Cancel' buttons) there is the dial pad there, by default, nice and visible. Clicking the dialpad should; 1. Append numbers to the 'Contact ID:' field 2. echo back the DTMF tone back to you Simple, and intuitive. [Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
Agree. Well. To me, the importance of this bug has nothing to do with the normal user. The normal user, to me, has already decided to use Ubuntu, and despite the occasional problem, such as this one, Ubuntu far surpasses the usefulness of the alternatives, with the exception of maybe macOS. The real problem is when us normal users manage to convince a new person to try it out, based on our recommendations. Then they find out that a integrated component of the operating system (brasero) is broken in the Long term service release, and has been broken for months. [Bug 600861] Re: path location bar of Nautilus doesn't appear by default when configured so in gconf-editor, and disappears on navigation
Actually, not only that. It actually even disappears without me doing anymore than switching between panes! For example; If i open Nautilus, and use the 'Extra Pane' option (F3), make show the path location bar click from one pane to the other and back the path location bar is gone. And, If i have to be perfectly honest, that the ctrl-L short-cut is not a toggle is a real pain. There should be (as their used to be ) a way to toggle between the button look , and the text look. But now, once I have the text path location bar, there seems to be no way to get the buttons! Not nice at all. Having played with it more just now, and gone into the Nautilus preferences, not really changed much, and closed; the above behavior seems to have stopped. The path location bar opens up correctly. I wonder, was all this because a change in the preferences, and since I hadn't yet re-opened the preferences, the old preferences saved in my profile were causing a problem for the newer version of Nautilus? -- path location bar of Nautilus doesn't appear by default when configured so in gconf-editor, and disappears on navigation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/600861 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
From someone who doesn't actually do any coding work on Ubuntu, I don't like to criticize but ; In terms of Ubuntu's commitment to providing as good a release as reasonably possible, this bug in particular is very disappointing. To read the words 'hopefully' and 'maverick' when considering a bug which affects a major component of the Ubuntu desktop (something that is part of the user experience, part of the OS itself, as brasero is very much weaved in as 'inbuilt functionality of Ubuntu') is a bit of a shock. For those who can get around this, the more clever 'users' who can choose another alternative application to provide the same functionality (such as k3b) things are, while not nice, doable. There is a work around for us. However, I have set up Ubuntu on the computer of my mother. This is hardly the kind of situation that some potential users can 'survive' with. I'd imagine there are many other such cases, and a bug like this, more than many other kinds of bugs, prevents the wider up-take of the OS. Considering the idea of Ubuntu 'just working' ... this particular bug breaks Ubuntu. It is one thing an application like Gimp having a bug, as it is not a major part of 'the user experience'. But Brasero? There should be more importance in fixing bugs like this. Where is shuttleworth?
