The fact that this carried over from gnome 2.x.x shows a serious lack of

[Bug 620693] Re: Screen not locked when turned off

2011-09-22 Thread tekstr1der
I've followed this bug specifically due to natty 11.04 behavior. The
screen does not lock after blank.

gconf settings:

lock > blank_screen is true
lock > use_screensaver_settings is false

The display blanks correctly at the time set in the G-P-M settings.
However, the screen does not lock thereafter.

My workaround, while waiting on this bug, has been to enable the
screensaver and its option to lock the screen. I will then set the
screen to blank at 10 minutes and the screensaver to kick in/lock at 11
minutes. That leaves me with only 1 minute where I'm in this
unexpectedly insecure state.

While testing, I've disabled the screensaver options (desired behavior)
to focus solely on the blank/lock issue.

Any ideas Michael Terry?

[Bug 773063] Re: [Natty] gnome-about-me box doesn't remember contents

2011-05-13 Thread tekstr1der
Clean install of natty x64 here. I do not use evolution. However, at
each logon, the ~/.local/share/evolution folder and /addressbook,
/calendar sub-directories are created if they do not exist. I must have
deleted it at some point when cleaning up my home directory and had lost
all the info in "about me". I never had this issue on previous releases.

After recreating the directory and files, then filling out the info in
"about me", the information appears to be retained through various
sessions.

[Bug 732114] Re: nautilus failed to start on natty with the latest updates

2011-05-12 Thread tekstr1der
This continues to affect me. I can no longer run the nautilus file
manager in a useable state. Whether launching from the command line or
using the unity launcher for Home Folder, nautilus is hung, not
responding and 100% CPU between all 4 cores is being used. I am able to
view this behavior under gnome-system-monitor tab "resources", however
the "processes" tab does not show what's eating CPU, nor does top, nor
htop. Also, htop correlates the four cores totaling 100% constantly.
When nautilus does "run" (show its gui), it grays-out during any actions
(since the CPU is pegged, I'd assume).

I created an additional user account to test this. Nautilus appears to
work correctly under a unity session with the new user.

Logging back in with my normal user results in this same behavior, even
using the classic session w/o effects. Only by logging in to a safe-mode
session does nautilus work properly and CPU usage is normal.

What could possibly have become corrupted suddenly? The .nautilus folder
in ~/ is empty. I removed all gvfs-metadata. I cleared the zeitgeist
cache and recently-used.

Killing the nautilus process immediately spawns another, so this is
negatively affecting my entire experience w/natty since the CPU is
constantly running at 100%

I just experienced this on an up-to-date natty. After applying updates,

reboot/login nautilus was not running/responding and launching from
terminal resulted in

did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply,
the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

It looked like a nautilus process was running/hung, but would not launch
the gui, nor provide context menu on right-click of desktop.

Also...

sudo kill -9 4110

...appeared to do nothing. Never experienced that before!

[Bug 327872] Re: Broken support for MPEG-TS: HDV and AVCHD (.mts/.m2ts) files

2010-09-10 Thread tekstr1der
Originally this bug's summary was: Missing support for MTS in Totem and

Is this bug still tracking *.mts file thumbnail support in nautilus or
is there a separate bug for that issue? Nautilus 2.30.1 in Lucid is
still not generating thumbnails for these files. Also, this bug seems to
have morphed into pitivi-related concerns.

[Bug 401823] Re: Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

2010-07-28 Thread tekstr1der
As stated above by Zack Evans and confirmed by many previous me-too's,
this bug is still present in GTK on an up-to-date lucid install. This
occurs with the latest chromium stable build for me. It is not fixed.
Changing status to correctly reflect... status.

[Bug 526437] Re: Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_accel_map_unlock_path: assertion `entry != NULL && entry->lock_count > 0' failed

2010-07-14 Thread tekstr1der
The fix for this bug is committed upstream, but not released to ubuntu
lucid yet. Although ubuntu's About > Gnome claims to be version 2.30.2,
for some reason, gnome-terminal was never updated from the 2.29
development branch. Hope this is resolved soon.

[Bug 108623] Re: totem isn't buffering correctly

2010-06-28 Thread tekstr1der
This bug is still present as described by mWm above. Local network
(wireless-N) playback results in repeated stuttering. Is there any way
to modify the buffer of Totem with gstreamer on Ubuntu lucid 10.04 x64?
The upstream bug is marked "wont-fix". Should a new bug be filed for
this issue, or can the bug be re-opened?

[Bug 576378] Re: After resume from suspend battery icon shows depleted regardless of charge

2010-05-06 Thread tekstr1der
Update: When back on AC, the icon changes, but is still not correct.

Current Charge is 47.2 Wh
Energy when full is reporting 632.4 Wh (I wish!!!)
Design Charge is 60.7 Wh

So, applet is reporting ~7% charge when in fact it is more like 78%.
This appears to be due to the erroneous full charge estimate.

[Bug 576378] [NEW] After resume from suspend battery icon shows depleted regardless of charge

2010-05-06 Thread tekstr1der
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

When resuming from suspend while on battery power, the battery icon in
the indicator applet is displayed as an empty red container. This is
regardless of the actual battery charge being full, half or indeed
depleted. Restarting gnome-panel has no effect. Restarting g-p-m also
has no effect. The icon remains unchanged.

Connecting to utility AC power causes the icon to resume expected
functionality.

[Bug 542035] [NEW] Multiple suspend-resume cycles fail to resume

2010-03-19 Thread tekstr1der
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Clean install of 2010.03.18 Daily Lucid CD results in:

Suspend-resume works as expected exactly one time only. The system will
then suspend again successfully, but when a resume is prompted, it will
reboot, resulting in loss of apps/data.

This behavior occurs if suspended more than once during the same session
and also persists between logins. The only fix is a full reboot.
Rebooting allows for another single successful suspend-resume cycle.

@Timo: according to the lastest comment upstream, this does not appear
to be a theme-dependant bug:

[Bug 491926] Re: screensaver doesn't start immediately after being enabled

2010-03-04 Thread tekstr1der
The situation with this bug has improved slightly with Lucid. Now, the
screen darkens after the idle time set in screensaver configuration
panel and is locked upon activity. In Karmic the screen would start to
darken and just go back to full brightness.

I can also confirm above --debug workaround.

We almost have a working screensaver (minus the actual screensaver
part). I hope a fix for this makes it into Lucid.

[Bug 532179] [NEW] rhythmbox album art disappears on track change

2010-03-04 Thread tekstr1der
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Playing an album with embedded id3 album art results in the first-
selected track displaying the album art properly in both the player and
notify-osd, but when the end of the track is reached and a new one
begins, the album art is not displayed in either area.

Manually selecting a different track always shows album art properly. It
is only when the player changes tracks automatically that the album art
is lost and replaced with generic icon.

Expected result: rhythmbox consistently displays embedded tag album art
when a track is playing. (there's been various bugs with this throughout
12.5, 12.6, 12.7)

[Bug 44058] Re: suspend when closing laptop lid doesn't work

2010-03-04 Thread tekstr1der
Brian, glad to here it is working for you in some capacity. However,
typically, bugs are filed against packages expected to work in the
default installation. Removing packages such as ubuntuone or gnome-
screensaver is not a viable workaround/solution for this bug. Also your
"monkeying" would be difficult to replicate as it seems you did a number
of things which may or may not have had any affect on this issue.

[Bug 494114] Re: gnome-screensaver fails to run

2009-12-09 Thread tekstr1der
I didn't want to disable compiz to test this as I don't really care
about having a screensaver, more about a fully functional system. So, I
created a new user and followed the STR. I can reproduce the exact issue
following the above steps.

I then disabled desktop effects on the new user, rebooted, enabled the
screensaver and yes, it is now functional. It seems compiz is indeed
playing a role in this bug.

Having multiple workarounds now is better than nothing. Also are you
able to reproduce this following the above steps with compiz enabled? If
not and it's just me, I will mark this bug invalid. This is a system
upgraded from intrepid to jaunty to karmic alpha 2 thru current karmic
updates all the while with the same main user profile. I have verified
this bug does not exist on a fresh VM install.

I would like to note the following behavior:

This isolates the bug to the following STR:

[Bug 494114] Re: gnome-screensaver fails to run

2009-12-09 Thread tekstr1der
Thanks for getting on this so quickly.

If you are referring to the screensaver setting of "Blank Screen", no,
it exibits the same behavior regardless of which screensaver is
selected. Also they all run successfully in Preview mode.

If you are referring to the "Blank Screen" setting in power management
panel, yes dpms power saving works as expected.

[Bug 411350] Re: gnome-screensaver not functioning

2009-12-09 Thread tekstr1der
Filed Bug #494114 hoping it does get properly looked at. Unfortunately,
I followed this bug throughout karmic dev cycle and at one point around
end of August the screensaver was completely functional. Looks like I've
had a different bug for some time now.

If your screen starts to fade at the correct idle timeout, but the
screensaver is not shown, please do refer to my aforementioned bug.

2009-12-08 Thread tekstr1der

[Bug 411350] Re: gnome-screensaver not functioning

Still broken here after applying update and rebooting. Screen fades to
black at correct timeout, but screensaver is not displayed. Instead, the
display snaps back to full brightness immediately.

[Bug 229197] Re: rhythmbox notifications don't show album cover

2009-12-03 Thread tekstr1der
This bug exists on a fully updated Karmic also. In combination with Bug
#426329, Rhythmbox really fails to deliver on the cover art / tag front
for Ubuntu 9.10. Version 12.6 should be allowed in it's entirety as an
SRU or at least should be backported.

[Bug 44058] Re: suspend when closing laptop lid doesn't work

2009-11-24 Thread tekstr1der
This is broken for me from bootup until a time that I manually suspend.
If I first suspend via hotkey or panel menu, after resuming the
functionality returns and the laptop will suspend when lid closed.

If I don't force a suspend by some other method, I can repeatedly close
the lid without triggering suspend. This feature was working correctly
and reliably in previous releases on the same hardware.

[Bug 445747] Re: Login screen ready sound plays while sound scheme is turned off

2009-11-23 Thread tekstr1der
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 437429 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/437429

This bug can be worked around by:

sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds --type
bool false

However, there appears to be no GUI method to toggle this as existed in
the previous GDM configuration options.

[Bug 411350] Re: gnome-screensaver not functioning

2009-11-05 Thread tekstr1der
Ugh. This bug is back. This was previously sorted sometime in the karmic
dev cycle, but now after release I am affected by this again. At the set
time to activate the screensaver, my screen dims to black as if about to
start the screensaver, then snaps back to full display brightness.

[Bug 386996] Re: suspend timeout ignored

2009-11-05 Thread tekstr1der
Jeez. I can't believe I went through the whole karmic dev cycle without
catching this! Here's what I'm experiencing:

*SUCCESSFULLY suspend when on AC per the time setting in Power Management
*SUCCESSFULLY suspend on lid close
*SUCCESSFULLY suspend via GUI or hotkey
*SUCCESSFULLY start Screensaver when enabled - currently disabled

*FAILS to suspend on battery per the time setting in Power Management
*FAILS to put display to sleep per the time setting in Power Management

Seeing this same thing logged on every unlock in Karmic beta. Do you
need any more debug info to help get this resolved?

Is any more debugging information needed from users?
