[Bug 1712188] [NEW] Ubuntu 17.10: Cannot use shelltile extension in Ubuntu Session while it works fine in Gnome Session

2017-08-21 Thread Thanos Apostolou
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 17.10 with artful-proposed enabled, I cannot use the shelltile
extension in Ubuntu session. If you see the screenshot, it seems like
both shelltile and gnome's built in tile feature work at the same time
and the gnome's one is preferred (enabling shelltile from gnome-tweak
should disable the built in functionality). However, shelltile works
properly on Gnome session.

I don't know if I should file this bug against gnome-shell or gnome-
session (if I've understood correctly ubuntu-session is a sub package of
gnome-session).

[Bug 1711657] [NEW] Add a vertical mark/line at shell's sound slider which indicates where 100% of volume is, when the option "allow louder than 100%" is enabled at settings

2017-08-18 Thread Thanos Apostolou
Public bug reported:

This is about the new changes about sound in Artful, where the volume
slider is able to get higher than 100% (when the option is enabled at
settings). Add a vertical mark/line at shell's sound slider which
indicates where 100% of volume is, when the option "allow louder than
100%" is enabled at settings. This will allow users to know, easily, if
their sound quality is reduced (over 100%) or not. Originally, this was
mentioned as a comment on this blog: https://didrocks.fr/2017/08/16

[Bug 1707295] [NEW] Suggestion: Add ubuntu-restricted-extras package to ubuntu-software (gnome-software)

2017-07-28 Thread Thanos Apostolou
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu-restricted-extras is a package which I recommend for installation
to every new Ubuntu user. However, currently it isn't shown under the
ubuntu-software (gnome-software). So, I don't want to recommend new
users to use terminal in order to install something simple as that. Is
it possible to include it under gnome-software, maybe under the "Add-
ons" category?

I don't know if this can be done easily, but maybe you can hack it
somehow?

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2014-02-16 Thread Thanos Kyritsis
I am experiencing what Dmitry Pashkevich (dipish) describes in comments
#414 and #416. Alt+Shift layout switching worked with packages from the
official repos. On 1st February 2014, gnome-settings-daemon:amd64 was
updated from 3.8.5-0ubuntu11.1 to 3.8.5-0ubuntu11.2 and something broke.
After each reboot, I have to reset the switch to next source setting
in Text Entry Settings in order for Alt+Shift to work again.

[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10

2013-12-08 Thread Thanos Kyritsis
Is there a latin letter T in the russian layout?

There is a letter T in the Greek layout. Also, terminal in Greek
translates to τερματικό, both words start with a letter T. So, there
is no excuse for the Ctrl-Alt-T Unity shortcut not working in Greek
layout.

Unfortunatelly, iBus breaks whatever stability, maturity and standards-
compliance XKB built for over one decade.

2013-12-08 Thread Thanos Kyritsis
Ok, they are not identical, you are right. But it doesn't matter,
actually. What matters is that the *physical* keyboard shortcuts like
Ctrl-Alt-T or Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V should just work no matter what the current
layout is. This is also what XKB achieved after many years of maturity,
simple as that!

[Bug 648498] Re: Redundant Tile Styles Listed

2010-09-30 Thread Thanos Lefteris
I can confirm it for gnome-mahjongg (32.0-0ubuntu1) in Ubuntu Netbook
Edition 10.10 RC.

Please use a different name for the two tiles. Or better, if you want to brand
with Ubuntu, drop the Gnome one.
Its not very obvious what the difference is between them, even with different
names anyway.

+ Postmodern 1 gives the gnome-logo tile.
+ Postmodern 2 gives the ubuntu-logo tile.

[Bug 498839] Re: No keyboard indicator applet shown after install with Greek kb

2009-12-22 Thread Thanos Lefteris
The indicator applet should be added to the panel automatically after
installation, ONLY if the user has selected during installation a
different keyboard layout. So the applet shouldn't be there by default
for all installs. Other operating systems, such as Windows do this, and
users migrating from there expect this behavior. From my experiences
with new Ubuntu users, they are having difficulty adding the applet them
selfs, because it's not well advertised that you can add additional
applets in the panel. It's kind of a hidden feature. Also the keyboard
configuration app, doesn't provide a way to add the applet or mention of
its availability.

You are right Pedro that it has never been there, so consider this bug a
wishlist item. Tell me if you need additional details.

Thanks

[Bug 498839] [NEW] No keyboard indicator applet shown after install with Greek kb

2009-12-20 Thread Thanos Lefteris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Steps to reproduce:

1) During installation from the Ubuntu 9.10 desktop live cd, select Greek as a
language for installation
2) Select the Greek keyboard layout in appropriate installation step
2) Finish installation and reboot into the newly installed system

What I expected to happen:

 - See a keyboard indicator applet so that I can see what layout is
active and also change language with the mouse.

What actually happened:

 - No keyboard indicator applet shown in the panel. The user has to
figure out how to do it her self. There are two keyboard layouts
configured in the system automatically (Greek and English), but no
intuitive way to switch between them.

2008-06-10 Thread thanos
Hi

Just to add I've used the latest instructions on this thread (apt-get source
etc, comment from Renzo Bagnati above) to download the latest gvfs source
code, and guess what; *the original patch still works*

I suggest that anyone still experiencing the problem and his patched
executable got overwritten, goes the same way

2008-06-09 Thread thanos
As per the developers' comment: ...The fix will go into the next
software releases, 2.22.3 and 2.23.2.

I can confirm that drag-drop files within a directory of a ZIP archive
are correctly placed and not in the root anymore.

Confirmed version: File-roller v.2.22.3

Hi

I've re-tested after all updates (incl. kernel update) and the patch still
works. Suggest that you check the folder /usr/lib/gvfs/ for the patched
executable.

Re: [Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-05-22 Thread thanos
Hi

Seems to me that you're referring to another bug. What I've observed is that
the Network is working but not predictably. For example, if you login
and go to nautilus - network, it is empty. If you leave things as they are
for 5-10 minutes, then try again, there are some things appearing. I dont
browse the network, I usually map the drives directly with smbfs. However, I
did notice this behavior so maybe you should watch out for it - leave it as
it is for 5-10 minutes, then open Nautilus - Network again

Maybe it is dependent on the number of machines on the network? For us it is
more than 200...

Well it fixed it for the most part. Thank you thanos for uploading the
patched file. I am able to access all my shares using nautilus.
However, I still have to type in the share path.

Simply browse to Network and then to Windows Network it just thinks
and errors out with; Cannot open smb:/// or if you actually do get it
to browse into Windows Network and click on the domain, it errors out
with; There is not a known application for this file type. Nautilus
also errors out if I type in smb://.

If I simply type smb://host/sharename host being either the hostname
or the ip address and sharename it works perfectly. Just like Gusty :)
Nautilus asks me for auth, and off we go.

 Thanks again.

Some things to check:

1. Make sure that the executable is replaced and no Update Manager has
done any updates.
2. Verify MD5 of the executable I've provided vs. the executable in the
final location

File size in bytes: 108656
File name: gvfsd-smb-browse

for GNU/Linux 2.6.8, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped

File MD5: 77081f6e6dcc42448c5de355132ad582

3. Reboot machine

If all this is done, then it seems you have an updated/predated gvfs

Being horribly impatient, I've compiled it myself following instructions
from comment

If there is popular request I can provide the binary, even here, it is
only 42KB gzipped.

[Bug 159704] file-roller add a file via drag-and-drop broken in gutsy

2007-11-03 Thread thanos
Public bug reported:

Hi

Consider the following scenario works:

Archive.zip with files:

test1.txt
test2.txt
lib/test3.txt
lib/test4.txt

nautilus in directory /home/stuff/ and one file there, test4.txt (note
the file name).

1. in file-roller, you are viewing lib/ directory (test3.txt and test4.txt only
visible).
2. in nautilus, select from /home/stuff the file test4.txt via single click
3. drag file test4.txt from nautilus to file-roller (normal drag-drop
operation).

Expected: file-roller updates lib/test4.txt (this works OK in feisty)

Actual behaviour: file-roller adds new file test4.txt in root archive
directory in gutsy, ignoring that archive is currently in /lib
directory.

Please help - this is very annoying and the only workaround is to add a
full directory structure with the file needed!

Hi

Appreciate the immediate response and given workaround; it is primarily
a usability bug: imagine if this operation needs to be done on 5-10
archives on a daily basis and has been as such for 6+ months. It is
totally mechanical for the user.

It will be much appreciated if a fix can be provided, many thanks!
