[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager
great news! Sam chasing this bugger for 8 hours is a great relief for all of us having regretted the upgrade to natty because of this. thanx a lot! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/767095 Title: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager
I confirm that Guiodic solution (post #116) works and it's easy to apply. @UbuntuTeam: unless there is some Unity related concern requiring compiz 0.9.4, PLEASE consider reverting to compiz 0.8.6 in natty (as per Guiodic's workaround) as solution to this crippling bug which seems not so easy to fix and leave compiz 0.9.4 for oneiric ocelot or platonic penguin -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/767095 Title: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager
@Guiodic I do not know if downgrading python just to make the 0.8.6 config manager for compiz work in natty is worth the trouble. with so many python dependencies maybe it is less complicated to switch back to maverick altogether. also, I can't see how this png vs xpm icon thing relates to compiz, if so would the png compiz plugin involved? @Tehnick how is your skype icon doing? mine I don't know because I can't see it! just to prove that as a matter of fact the funny critique that you call noise is better than just pr noise...
@Eliah no problem. we're all in the same "natty" boat except for the guys working on this (they are on an "oneiric" trip) the most important thing in the whole process is to click this-bug- affects-me button ...and... nothing will happen -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/767095 Title: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager
@Eliah it's a show stopper, why? (let me give you a typical use-case) because my wife couldn't have installed compiz 0.8.6 from Guiodic's PPA and if I was not there she would have simply rebooted to her Windows 7 partition not to return again in Linux land. by the way metacity (the "no effects" alternative) simply sucks with video overlaying on 64bit/ATI-Radeon machine. PS: I guess dealing with my frustration about this makes me wanna joke, as Stallman would have said "Join us now and save the software... tralali tralalo..." -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/767095 Title: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager
very cool scrollbars indeed! they could make them even better by adding a feature to make my skype, vidalia, hplip, vlc, keepassx... icons reappear. I guess the "Ubuntu Desktop experience team" guys all work from the tty console and they do not have these "small" problems of desktop users. Not to speak for the guy that wanted to practice in C++ using compiz instead of "hello world". Knock knock "Ubuntu Desktop experience team" anybody home? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/767095 Title: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager
this bug is duplicate of this and this, that one should be duplicate of that... No I don't agree... Yes it should... and so forth and so on. I guess all bugs are duplicates of bug 666... one month and 3 days after the initial report of this show stopper still looking for duplicates, great!
[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet for qt softwares (e.g. Skype)
if this is not a serious bug I don't know what it is! still being unassigned is simply a disgrace... seriously how can someone use this thing if most Qt tray icons are not showing? because of this (not to mention other hicks of lesser importance e.g. the gnome battery indicator which is not one, ia32_libs issues etc.) Natty is in my opinion still in B status (B for bullshit and not beta). Good workaround: downgrade to maverick or switch to XFCE PS: @Guiodic thanx for the only useful comment so far (using aptitude the process is fairly simple but don't forget to downgrade the gtk- decorator) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/767095 Title: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet for qt softwares (e.g. Skype) -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
