Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

installed
  Depends: libevview3-3 (= 3.36.0-2) but 3.36.10-0ubuntu1 is to be

[Bug 1721401] Re: eog fails to open png: Failed to register: Timeout was reached

2019-08-27 Thread tomdean
I have another 18.04.3 installation on this computer, on a WD5000, that
also uses TWM. The 27 second display does not happen. On that system,
I notice a difference in time for the very first execution of eog to the
next. The shared libs seem to have stayed loaded inbetween.

[Bug 1721401] Re: eog fails to open png: Failed to register: Timeout was reached

2019-08-27 Thread tomdean
I have this problem.

Ubuntu 18.04.3
4.15.0-58-generic kernel
X and TWM. Some gnome things are running...

eog image1.jpg takes 27 seconds to open a window.

Sometimes, I get 'Failed to register: Timeout was reached' message and
eog is terminated.

This happens when I have TWM as the desktop. With gdm3, this does not
seem to happen.

It works. I changed etc/cups/printers.conf to include:

#AuthInfoRequired none
AuthInfoRequired username,password

to remove the workaround. I was promoted for username and password.

and restarted cups.d:

sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart

Printing worked.

Thanks,

[Bug 498669] Re: Freecell becomes very slow after some time

2010-01-28 Thread tomdean
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 450832 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/450832

This bug is NOT a duplicate of 450832.

I have never experienced an x-session logout or any other system
malfunction other than aisleriot becoming very slow and xorg memory use
increasing to about 1G.

Exiting aisleriot does not cause xorg to release the memory allocated.

There is no other activity on the system.

Please remove the duplicate tag.

Thank you.

I do not believe this bug is a duplicate of 450832.
I have never experienced an X logout while playing Aislerot Solitaire.

There appears to be a memory leak that coincides with aisleriot becoming
very slow.

After a reboot, it took a very long time to repeat.

After several hours, (read happy kids), the slow drag with trail
repeated.

Xorg is using 21.1% of memory and it takes tens of minutes to repeat,
not hours!

After exiting Freecell, the xorg memory use stays over 20%.

So, it appears there is a memory leak, somewhere.

What can I do to help with this?

This may be a memory leak.

My last post indicated xorg was using about 27% of 4G RAM.

1. Reboot.
2. Start xterm with top
xorg was using 0.3% of 4G RAM

I have the Freecell Slow situation now.

What can I do to help in resolution?

I started Freecell and played for an hour, or so.

When I drag a card from one stack to another, the outline of the card
repeats in the cursor path multiple times until the mouse button is
released. For several seconds, the trail is visible.

Yes, it has happened 5 or 6 times over the past couple of weeks.

Just play Freecell for some time, without exiting and with little else
going on. It takes some time, like 45 minutes. I believe I read mail
with evolution and may have used Seamonkey.

After playing for a while, an outline of a moved cars(s) follows the
cursor. The move completes successfully and after 10 to 15 seconds, the
screen update completes. This continues until Freecell is exited. It
takes several seconds, like 15 or 20 before the Freecell display exits.

Other activity on the system seems normal. It is like this one
application becomes disconnected for several seconds and then resumes.
I have not noticed this with other applications.

This may be very difficult to trace. Anything I can do to help?

1. Insert a new, blank DVD+R into the drive

4. Drag the Documents icon into the CD/DVD Creator - File Browser

7. When the error popup appears, Help-Report a Problem before closing

The Documents directory contains some 1.2G
If I select a directory with 50M, it works.

This is related to size or directory structure.

What else can I do?

hgg...@gmail.com supplied a fix:

Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug
looks similar to bug 359658; Ted has prepared a proposed fix for Jaunty,
available at his PPA: https://edge.launchpad.net/~ted/+archive/bugfix.

I would like you to update your evolution-indicator to Ted's PPA

How do we get this fix applied and the bug resolved?
