Sorry I have been too busy to update this earlier. Turns out my notebook had a faulty hard disk causing it to create massive wait. This was probably responsible for this issue among others., because I can't reproduce it since the HDD was replaced. Hi Sebastien, yes it is nautilus using up most of the CPU%; see attached screenshot. I attempted to debug, but there appeared to be no useful output. [Bug 116090] nautilus slow to display folder containing TIFF files
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04; all updates applied Put the attached TIF file into a folder (any folder, even on its own). Display the folder in nautilus nautilus 'hangs' and CPU jumps to 100% for a long time (minutes) before folder contents are displayed. When scrolling through the contents, nautilus 'hangs' when scrolling past the TIF file so it seems to be related to the thumbnail code for TIF files. I can reproduce this 100% of the time with the attached TIF file.
