[Bug 149022] While shutting down the login screen is shown for a split second
Public bug reported: Symptom: When shutting down Ubuntu Gutsy the login screen is shown for a split second before the actual shutdown. Even the dum-dum login sound is played as if the system has just started up. This makes the whole shutdown experience too cluttered. I even feel like logging in again when I see the login prompt :) Just some thoughts: This is probably happening because a user is first logged out and then the system shutdown takes place. I think the logout/switch user/shutdown mechanism should be able to recognize which of the processes is being carried out and not show the login screen when system shutdown is in progress. (Dell Inspiron 6400, Core 2 Duo, ATI X1400, Sound: HDA Intel SigmaTel STAC9200) I'm on Gutsy Tribe 5 + all software updates. The problem is exactly as explained in the original bug report, i.e. a beep on welcome screen and no login sound. (Dell Inspiron 6400, Core 2 Duo, ATI X1400, Gutsy Tribe 5 + all software upgrades) The problem comes and goes. It came back after the latest software update (Sept 17, 2007). I see a dialogue box shortly after login reading: "There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon. Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly. The last error message was: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-NFZ8GYvPtQ: Connection refused GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in." If there is any information I can provide, please let me know where I can dig it out.
