[Bug 400290] [NEW] [ubuntu karmic] nautilus crashes upon attempting to ssh-connect

2009-07-16 Thread ullix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

running ubuntu karmic on netbook Acer Aspire One 110L.

when attempting to connect to a second computer via ssh by entering e.g.
ssh://10.0.0.30 into the location line of nautilus, nautilus crashes.
upon restarting nautilus it shows the location as mounted ("sftp 0n
10.0.0.30" in the Places column). Clicking on this line also crashes
nautilus.

ssh-ing on the command line works.

This occured only after a reboot following today's updates. After all
updates were done - but before the reboot - I could ssh to the other
computer via nautilus. The error persists after additional cold reboots.

uname -a
Linux aa1sd 2.6.31-3-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 14 16:04:41 UTC 2009 i686

[Bug 400290] Re: crashes upon attempting to ssh-connect

2009-07-16 Thread ullix
Well, I could do this: after enabling apport I replicated the error,
and reported under bug #400319. This failure also produced an error in
usplash, which is reported as bug #400322.

I can't do backtracing.

In case it helps: when I mounted the external folder as nfs share (as
opposed to access it via ssh) I could read it with nautilus without any
problem.

[Bug 377576] Re: [karmic] Power History windows too big for netbook screen

2009-07-16 Thread ullix
I can confirm that the size issue is fixed, but a lot of other issues
were introduced. Two of them are shown in the attached screenshots: The
AC adaptor is shown as selected (doesn't show in thre screenshot
-another bug?) on the left side, but battery details are shown on the
right side. And a battery power rate of 730W seems a bit high for my
netbook!

[Bug 400290] Re: crashes upon attempting to ssh-connect

2009-07-17 Thread ullix
Sebastien,
I have no idea what ubuntuone is, but I searched under synaptics and found 4
files being installed and having ubuntuone in their name (ubuntuone-client,
ubunutone-client-gnome, and 2 files python-ubuntuone-xxx). I removed them and
tried nautilus entering location ssh://xxx : it still crashed. I did a cold
reboot, and no crashes anymore! I can do ssh, click on trash, and click on
computer, and all comes up as it shoudl, no crashes.

[Bug 377576] [NEW] [ubuntu karmic]Power History windows too big for netbook screen

2009-05-17 Thread ullix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Clicking on Power History under the gnome-power-manager icon in the
panel, and then clicking on laptop battery extends the window beyond the
right end of the screen (although there is still space on the left) and
extends it bottom end beyond the bottom end of the screen. The vertical

[Bug 54790] Re: Can not establish internet connection by using Modem Monitor applet

2008-11-02 Thread ullix
I have a fresh install of ubuntu intrepid and seem to have the same
problem with the monitor modem applet. I use it with the remix
interface.

These are the applet responses: (my language setting is German)
1) resting the mouse pointer over it, it shows (in English): "Could not get
connection time"
2)left clicking on it: no response at all
3)right clicking on it:
   - Activate and Deactivate are greyed out and cannot be selected
   - clicking properties: "Das Programm zum Einstellen der Netzwerkverbindungen
konnte nicht gestartet werden. Bitte
überprüfen Sie, dass es im richtigen Pfad installiert ist und das es die
notwendigen Zugriffsrechte besitzt"
(approx: the program to set network connections cannot be started. Please
check the it is installed in the proper path
and you have necessary access permissions)
Network connections on this computer via wired and wireless work well.

Also, using Gnome PPP I can dial out via the modem (USB modem zoom 3095)
and can make a connection (doesn't help much, though, because connection
fails immediately, which I had reported elsewhere).

Yes, there are still places, where you need a modem, please help!

[Bug 303778] Re: [ubuntu intrepid] Rhythm box faulty on netbook screens

2008-12-01 Thread ullix
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 138845 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138845

Pedro, I believe you are mistaken in your interpretation of the cause
for the bug. This jumping behaviour is seen in a number of programs, and
clearly related to the screen height of only 600pixel, as is typical for
netbooks. I think there is some hardcoding about the expected screen
height, which results in this behaviour.

I have reported this same faulty behaviour for other programs already,
as e.g. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gpaint/+bug/300427,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ghex/+bug/300467,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcompris/+bug/300779,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tuxpaint/+bug/300780,

Having a multimedia program acting incorrectly particularly on a
netbook, where you can have music-on-the-go is unfortunate.

2008-12-01 Thread ullix
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 138845 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138845

Pedro, I believe you are mistaken in your interpretation of the cause
for the bug. This jumping behaviour is seen in a number of programs, and
clearly related to the screen height of only 600pixel, as is typical for
netbooks. I think there is some hardcoding about the expected screen
height, which results in this behaviour.

I have reported this same faulty behaviour for other programs already,
as e.g. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gpaint/+bug/300427,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ghex/+bug/300467,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcompris/+bug/300779,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tuxpaint/+bug/300780,

Having a multimedia program acting incorrectly particularly on a
netbook, where you can have music-on-the-go is unfortunate.

[Bug 350826] Re: [jaunty] Rhythmbox no longer showing UPnP devices

2009-08-15 Thread ullix
this issue continues to exist in karmic alpha4. Furthermore, it appears
that the 'python-coherence' package for the framework is either missing
completely or is being renamed to 'coherence'. If so then neither
rhythmbox nor totem knows about this, as the 'DLNA/UPnP sharing and
control' plugin cannot be activated in neither of the two.

Using the tools from the gupnp-tools package I can see the various upnp
devices on my net.

The vertical
size is too big for a 1024x600 netbook screen, like on my acer aspire
one 110l.

Well, I could do this: after enabling apport I replicated the error,

[Bug 350826] Re: [jaunty] Rhythmbox no longer showing UPnP devices

2009-08-15 Thread ullix
this issue continues to exist in karmic alpha4. Furthermore, it appears
that the 'python-coherence' package for the framework is either missing
completely or is being renamed to 'coherence'. If so then neither
rhythmbox nor totem knows about this, as the 'DLNA/UPnP sharing and

2)left clicking on it: no response at all

Also, using Gnome PPP I can dial out via the modem (USB modem zoom 3095)

[Bug 303778] [NEW] [ubuntu intrepid] Rhythm box faulty on netbook screens

2008-11-30 Thread ullix

when rhythm box is run on a netbook (acer aspire one) with screen size
1024x600, and the cover window on the lower left end of the program is
enlarged beyond a certain size, then the program's bottom end extends to

[Bug 303778] Re: [ubuntu intrepid] Rhythm box faulty on netbook screens

2008-12-01 Thread ullix
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 138845 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138845

Pedro, I believe you are mistaken in your interpretation of the cause
for the bug. This jumping behaviour is seen in a number of programs, and
clearly related to the screen height of only 600pixel, as is typical for
netbooks. I think there is some hardcoding about the expected screen
height, which results in this behaviour.

I have reported this same faulty behaviour for other programs already,
as e.g. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gpaint/+bug/300427,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ghex/+bug/300467,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcompris/+bug/300779,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tuxpaint/+bug/300780,

Having a multimedia program acting incorrectly particularly on a
netbook, where you can have music-on-the-go is unfortunate.

[Bug 187383] Re: System monitor causes Xorg to consume 100% CPU

2008-11-11 Thread ullix
I have a similar issue with a Ubuntu Intrepid install on an Acer Aspire
One netbook, where gnome-system-monitor plus Xorg consume 60+% CPU,
shown both by top and g-s-m.

Running top in maximized gnome-terminal after cold start. CPU usage from
Xorg:1-3%, total: 3-5%
Starting g-s-m and hiding behind the maximized terminal window: CPU usage
slowly creeps up, becoming stable at CPU usage as reported by top of Xorg:~35%
and g-s-m:~35%. All other processes combined <3%. Load average by top after
~10min is 0.73/0.78/0.56. Switching to the g-s-m window shows CPU1 and CPU2
each at 30-40%.

[Bug 303778] [NEW] [ubuntu intrepid] Rhythm box faulty on netbook screens

2008-11-30 Thread ullix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

when rhythm box is run on a netbook (acer aspire one) with screen size
1024x600, and the cover window on the lower left end of the program is
enlarged beyond a certain size, then the program's bottom end extends to
below the lower screen end. When any spot in the programwindow is then
clicked, the program window jumps up and down. It then is difficult if
not impossible to select any song, button or menu entry.

[Bug 303778] Re: [ubuntu intrepid] Rhythm box faulty on netbook screens

2008-12-01 Thread ullix
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 138845 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138845

Pedro, I believe you are mistaken in your interpretation of the cause
for the bug. This jumping behaviour is seen in a number of programs, and
clearly related to the screen height of only 600pixel, as is typical for
netbooks. I think there is some hardcoding about the expected screen
height, which results in this behaviour.

I have reported this same faulty behaviour for other programs already,
as e.g. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gpaint/+bug/300427,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ghex/+bug/300467,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcompris/+bug/300779,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tuxpaint/+bug/300780,

Having a multimedia program acting incorrectly particularly on a
netbook, where you can have music-on-the-go is unfortunate.

[Bug 413799] [NEW] [ubutu karmic] Power History is completely wrong

2009-08-14 Thread ullix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

700 Watts in my little netbook - that's why it is so hot! The
screenshot, see attachement, shows a power history graph of some 700 W
for my Acer Aspire One netbook, which consumes something like 10Watt.
Some previous versions of the power manager did show this correctly, but

In case it helps: when I mounted the external folder as nfs share (as
opposed to access it via ssh) I could read it with nautilus without any
problem.

Sebastien,
I have no idea what ubuntuone is, but I searched under synaptics and found 4
files being installed and having ubuntuone in their name (ubuntuone-client,
ubunutone-client-gnome, and 2 files python-ubuntuone-xxx). I removed them and
tried nautilus entering location ssh://xxx : it still crashed. I did a cold
reboot, and no crashes anymore! I can do ssh, click on trash, and click on
computer, and all comes up as it shoudl, no crashes.

Some previous versions of the power manager did show this correctly, but
now it is way off.

Also, upon opening Power History the left side shows that the AC Adapter
is selected, but the right side provides battery information. Only after
clicking again on AC Adapter is the AC information shown

** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
