[Bug 1226119] [NEW] "SMART is not enabled" in disks, according to smartctl it is

2013-09-16 Thread wvengen
Public bug reported:

When opening gnome-disks and selecting my internal hard disk, it tells
me that "SMART is not enabled". After enabling it with smartctl, I could
see its values using the command-line. Still gnome-disks keeps telling
me that "SMART is not enabled", even after several reboots.

[Bug 1087206] [NEW] Evince often hangs on close

2012-12-06 Thread wvengen
Public bug reported:

When closing an Evince 3.4.0-0ubuntu1.4 window, it often happens that
the window remains open but stops responding to events. This is not
document-dependent, as this behaviour is seen for different documents,
for at least both PDF and EPS documents, and the same document sometimes
shows this behaviour, and sometimes doesn't.

When attaching using strace, it is hanging on

[Bug 1009067] [NEW] "Wacom Graphics Tablet" slightly dominates the applet overview screen

2012-06-05 Thread wvengen
Public bug reported:

The "All Settings" page of System Settings generally has short, to-the-point
names like "Appearance", "Privacy", "Sound", etc. There are some that are
longer, like "Mouse and Touchpad", "Universal Access" and "Language Support".
One of the items seems to grab the attention, namely "Wacom Graphics Tablet".
It is the only item which takes up three lines for the text label (on the
desktops I've encountered). Visually, it is the last item of the set, which
helps in attracting attention.
Since the name "Wacom" does not seem to add much clue to distinguish what to
choose ("Graphics Tablet", or even "Tablet" may suffice), it would be better to
drop that. This would clean up the user-interface here.

[Bug 877464] [NEW] Linking with purple-based (skype) contact fails

Let's restrict this bug to the latter.

[Bug 292385] Re: Connection refused since it tries to connect to port 143 instead of 993

2008-11-04 Thread wvengen
I have the same problem on two computers which worked before the upgrade to
Intrepid 8.10:
* Dovecot server version 1.0.rc15
* server listening on port 993 IMAP over SSL
* server not listening on port 143 plain IMAP
* CRAM-MD5 password security
* in Evolution "Use Secure Connection" set to "SSL encryption"
Since the upgrade to Intrepid it doesn't work anymore.
In Wireshark I see that upon program startup an IMAPs connection is made, but
at some point also an imap connection is setup (which fails, of course). Then I
see no imaps messages anymore and only attempts to connect to imap. Couldn't
get SSL decryption with Wireshark to work yet.
I can use openssl s_client and thunderbird to read my email correctly.

Ok, one part of this bug is solved by the patch provided at bug #207072.
The other thing doesn't work even with the patch, see comment 5 about
the DynStor share; both nautilus and gvfs-mount keep asking for the

Ok, I got something further with gvfs-mount; it may not be an exact duplicate
of the other bug. The share I'm mounting is called DynStor; it doesn't support
listing its contents or mounting it directly, instead one can only mount
DynStor/SomeVolumeName. Another share on another server does seem to work
though:

[Bug 136625] Re: R5U870 webcam not working

2007-09-04 Thread wvengen
In kernel 2.6.19 onwards, two new ioctls were added to the v4l2 API:
http://www.linuxtv.org/downloads/video4linux/API/V4L2_API/spec/x15102.htm#AEN15973
These may not be available in the R5U870 driver. Yes, they need to be added if
not present. But, in addition to this; wouldn't it be better if gstreamer
didn't require these ioctls to be present? If the ioctl faisl, it could revert
to the old method. The API documentation marks them as experimental, so one

[Bug 136625] Re: R5U870 webcam not working

2007-09-03 Thread wvengen
Attached is a C file that does the operations done by gstreamer on
/dev/video0. It bails out too on the framesizes ioctl. I wonder if the
webcam driver is fully implemented and will contact the r5u870 author
about this.

Please also supply a link or copy of the .swf that crashed, because I

either a bug in libswfdec or Nautilus' thumbnailer.

[Bug 126616] Re: Cannot copy files from file system to Evolution folders

2007-07-28 Thread wvengen
I'd like to second this bug: dragging a file from Nautilus into the
Evolution window is possible. Drag any file onto either a folder in the
folder list (but not a search folder, junk or deleted items), and you
see that it is accepted (a plus-sign appears on the dragged file and the
folder is (kind of) selected (dotted rectangle around it).

This action only does something (ok, I didn't look in the source, so
there may be exceptions) when the dragged file is an mbox. In that case,
the email messages inside are copied into the folder. (This also works
the other way around: dragging an email message from evolution into
Nautilus creates an mbox for that message.)

When the dragged file is not an mbox, nothing happens. This is
confusing: either it should not be possible to drag a not-accepted file
into Evolution, or a message should be displayed that it is not a
supported file type (or something like that).

[Bug 124797] Re: CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor applet on dual-core doesn't work after resume

2007-07-22 Thread wvengen
I confirm this, 2nd cpu seems not to respond to a governor option change after
suspend/resume; removing and re-adding the applet corrects it.
With Gutsy's kernel 2.6.22 I don't see the problem right now. I will test it
more extensively though and report if I see anything interesting.

[Bug 36424] Re: oo2 failed to load file from ftp in nautilus

2007-01-08 Thread wvengen
Same problem for me with OO.org 2.0.4-ubuntu4.
I noticed a small difference in the error message for these two cases:

1. Start OO.org and open a file from passw-protected ftp
--> dlg with "general input/output error"

2. Run from cmdline: openoffice ftp://user:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/file
This opens the file, it works.
Then open a file from the same ftp location using File->Open.
--> dlg with "Access to ftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/file was denied"

Notice that, again, the password is missing here.

I got these error message on the console/xsession-errors:

(nautilus:4202): libgnomevfs-WARNING **: gnome-vfs-monitor.c: A monitor
handle was destroyed before it was added to the method hash table. This
is a bug in the application and can cause crashes. It is probably a
race-condition.

(soffice.bin:6857): libgnomevfs-WARNING **: gnome-vfs-monitor.c: A
monitor handle was destroyed before it was added to the method hash
table. This is a bug in the application and can cause crashes. It is
probably a race-condition.

The former occurs a couple of time in ~/.xsession-errors. I haven't been
able to reproduce them though.

[Bug 37723] Re: Dapper64 - Viewing Evolution Help Contents Kills Evolution Until Reboot

2006-07-14 Thread wvengen
I can confirm this.
A normal evolution run shows the following warnings:
  CalDAV Eplugin starting up ...
  (evolution-2.6:22253): evolution-mail-WARNING **: ignored this junk plugin:
not enabled or we have already loaded one
  (evolution-2.6:22253): e-utils-WARNING **: Plugin 'Bogofilter junk plugin'
failed to load hook 'org.gnome.evolution.mail.junk:1.0'
  (evolution-2.6:22253): camel-WARNING **: camel_exception_get_id called with
NULL parameter.
Now when the help contents is opened, it shows this
/usr/share/yelp/info.xml:0: error : unterminated entity reference
development tools.
  Unmatched element: br
In that case, when evolution is closed, it warns
  *** glibc detected *** corrupted double-linked list: 0x005daa00 ***

When I attach to evolution with gdb, I see the following:

[Bug 50484] "Switch user" shows gdmflexiserver dialog, but screensaver runs

2006-06-20 Thread wvengen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

The package's patch 11_session_dialog.patch adds a RESPONSE_SWITCH (switch
user) option to the logout dialog. When multiple servers are defined in
/etc/gdm/gdm.conf (or /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom) (I played with Xgl), a dialog
is thrown up asking which server to start Xnest with. The problem is that the
screen is locked immediately after running gdmflexiserver, so the dialog can
only be accessed after unlocking the screen again.
A solution would be to postpone locking the screen after gdmflexiserver is
finished asking questions. But I think this is not a suitable question for an
ordinary user anyway. I'm not sure at the moment what the best solution is.
