I don't know, if this is the same bug, but when I connect Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini to computer using USB and PTP, it takes about 15 seconds to even show file list every time I give focus to the Thunar window that is supposed to show the list of image files in the device. It does, except here it's PTP, not MTP.
