[Bug 11222] Re: Add auto-organize support to Rhythmbox

2009-11-16 Thread Cyberkilla
It is a bit pointless to use a fancy GUI music manager when you still
have to maintain the integrity of your library folder yourself.

If the tracks are sorted into folders by artist and album, those folders
should update to reflect any changes in the metadata of the tracks
themselves. If this is not the case, you end up with a directory
structure that is inaccurate and misleading.

Perhaps it is a product of people coming from Windows, expecting to be
able to organise their music in the same way. I don't buy that though.

Supposedly, Amerok organises your library. Banshee certainly does.
In addition, so to iTunes and WMP11.

Rhythmbox is missing a rather common feature.

[Bug 11222] Re: Add auto-organize support to Rhythmbox

2009-09-22 Thread Michael Martin-Smucker
I'm a little confused about why Banshee is listed as a package affected
by this bug. Is this bug also requesting this feature for Banshee?
because I'm pretty sure Banshee already does this (but not by default).
Edit Preferences the options are available under File Policies.

[Bug 11222] Re: Add auto-organize support to Rhythmbox

2008-07-30 Thread ScottD
I agree totally with the person who intially requested this feature. I
have recently imported a large collection of music from someone that was
not overly systematic with their file naming conventions. Back in
iTune, I would simply import it with the organise my library selected
and the file and directory structures would be created. If there was
incorrect information in song details (as there invariably is) then
changing those details in iTunes would mean the corresponding files
would be changed. A good example is where soemone has a typo in the
artist or album name and therefore additional unecessary directories are
created for the saem thing. It is quite frustrating as I am trying very
hard to get a Linux alternative to iTunes, but there is nothing in the
Linux world that does everything that iTunes does. Rhythmbox seems the
closest but simple things like sorting and library file organising are
sorely missing. Get those sorted and you have a Linux iTunes real
alternative. Keep up the good work!!
