This currently affects Trusty 14.04 as well as Saucy 13.10. Found a workaround to leave gnome-screensaver installed while running xscreensaver: Create a script to run at startup with these commands. The problem is that gnome-screensaver is listed in the RequiredComponents for GNOME Flashback. We should first check whether that's actually necessary for Flashback to work with gnome-screensaver.
