To make clear what has happen, this is the procedure to reproduce the problem: (1) I insert a VCD to my Ubuntu notebook (2) totem starts automatically. (3) totem pop-up an error message to me says, An error occured -The playback of this movie requires a VCD protocol source plugin which is not installed. I have the same problem in my Gutsy Gibbon (7.10). I've installed all the plugin packages I know include: * gstreamer0.10-plugins-good * gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad * gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly * gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse After all installation and reboot, the same problem still exists. thanks for the info maybe I should switch to the xine version. I have the same problem! Put a VCD in the drive, Totem launches then gives the error message VCD protocol source plugin not installed. I'm also on Gutsy with all updates installed as of today.
