This will only fail, if you have an invalid browser configured in your gnome "Preferred Applications", e.g. /usr/local/bin/swiftfox, which would not exist anymore. Then to reproduce it: 1. start gnome-about 2. click on a link therein I would bet that other applications are similarly affected, but have not tried explicitly. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Does opening an url in other GNOME sotfware works correctly?
