[Bug 158164] Re: Fast user switch - logging in second user red-lines CPU
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The package your reporting is updated and the issue should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD development release - Maverick Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. [Bug 158164] Re: Fast user switch - logging in second user red-lines CPU
Im running into a similar issue on karmic: While logged in as the first user, everything - even desktop effects - runs fine. Then switching to the second user via fast-user-switch, the system crawls down: start firefox and scroll down a large page. It will take a while. htop reports that the CPU-usage of the X server for the second user (X :1) goes up to (almost) 100%. This problem seems to be independent of the usage of desktop effects. snippet of lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400 ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log for the first user running smoothly. http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31651967/Xorg.0.log -- Fast user switch - logging in second user red-lines CPU https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158164 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Hi there Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the development version of Ubuntu, Hardy Heron? Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low Assignee: (unassigned) = Basilio Kublik (sourcercito) Status: New = Incomplete -- Fast user switch - logging in second user red-lines CPU https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158164 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 158164] Re: Fast user switch - logging in second user red-lines CPU
I'd like to add that I get very similar symptoms. I'm running Gutsy on an Inspiron 5100 laptop that is shared between a family of four. I only really noticed because after 2+ users are logged in the fan will kick in and stay on permanently. Whereas usually it only come on every now and then. Checking top reveals that xorg is chugging away at 30%-70% cpu usage. -- Fast user switch - logging in second user red-lines CPU https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158164 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
