Re: [Bug 163095] Re: "The folder contents could not be displayed"
Well I didnt try out hardy beta, but then the bug is still in undecided state. They are seeing it as quite trivial as a large number of users are not affected by it.So,I doubt if they would fix it. - Original Message From: jac0b <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, 22 April, 2008 12:43:11 AM Subject: [Bug 163095] Re: "The folder contents could not be displayed" This also happens to me on Gusty.. [Bug 163095] Re: "The folder contents could not be displayed"
I have this problem. As told above, the problem shows up when operating/changing .mp3 files (don't know if happes with other types). I restart gnome (CTRL ALT BACKSPACE) to temporally fix it, but doing the operations with .mp3 again, it comes back. [Bug 163095] Re: "The folder contents could not be displayed"
Another related crash backtrace I found. Nautilus crashed when I tried to right-click>properties on a song file. This backtrace has something in common with the previous one, dealing with a failure in loading emblems. Something useful also as I assume. ** Attachment added: "backtrace.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12351698/backtrace.txt -- "The folder contents could not be displayed" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163095 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 163095] Re: "The folder contents could not be displayed"
I got the same problem. Every time I copy/paste files or double click on a media files to play, this bug occurs, the problem first appears when you click on a media file the file's icon disappears then when you try to access any directory an error prompts stating "The folder contents could not be displayed" and if you close the browser you can't even open another one, so need every time this occurs you need to kill nautilus and it would auto start again. But with luck after killing nautilus, it didn't auto start so I tried to backtrace the issue through gdb and got some interesting stuff there I guess. ** Attachment added: "nautilus backtrace.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12148246/nautilus%20backtrace.txt -- "The folder contents could not be displayed" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163095 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 163095] Re: "The folder contents could not be displayed"
Please look at this link for the full details. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=592098 In brief, the issue at faultis the sound preview function (by Nautilus, I presume). Issuing "killall nautilus" in a terminal only temporarily eliminates the problem. It may be solved by disabling the preview function as follows: Edit >> Preferences >> Preview Tab >> Set Preview Sound Files to 'Never'. Personally, I've reverted back to Feisty Fawn because of a whole list of other problems presented in Gutsy Gibbon. -- "The folder contents could not be displayed" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163095 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 163095] Re: "The folder contents could not be displayed"
I too receive this error. I am able to reproduce it consistently taking the following steps in nautilus. 1. Open music folder /home/username/music (Inside are 2000 mp3 files.) 2. Create a new folder /home/Desktop/New Music/ 3. Copy 200 MB of mp3's from .../music to .../New Music 4. Play a file in /New Music 5. Play a file in /music Repeat back and forth. 6. Refresh the folder contents I am now locked out of all directories under /home via nautilus. To escape this problem, I press ctrl-alt-backspace to restart the X.org server. Hopefully this bug will be prioritized and addressed with a patch soon. [Bug 163095] Re: "The folder contents could not be displayed"
This seems to be related to the preview function for music files. If music file preview function is turned off in the view preferences, the symptom can often be alleviated -- "The folder contents could not be displayed" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163095 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 163095] Re: "The folder contents could not be displayed"
I've been getting this problem very recently as well, and it has become a very big nuisance. I use VLC to open my mp3s. also, you can quickly restart nautilus by using "pkill nautilus" ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- "The folder contents could not be displayed" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163095 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 163095] Re: "The folder contents could not be displayed"
I came across this problem for this first time today -- it was the first time that I have done any heavy browsing through folders containing MP3 files. I think this has something to do with Nautilus. A suggestion in a thread on Ubuntu Forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3810649) related to this topic suggests typing "killall nautilus" into the terminal... this resets Nautilus but the problem recurs after I start browsing through MP3s again. -- "The folder contents could not be displayed" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163095 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
