Additional information that might matter... I have a second monitor connected via HDMI output. Monitor is 1600x1200 and is rotated 90 degrees. It had problems on 18.04 with Wayland (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1808226) and I have attached the output of xrandr when run from Xorg. This does matter. If you're using Intel graphics then I don't think this is going to be a driver issue. My first guess is that a gnome-shell extension has broken rendering for the panel menu. second requested file This is a Lenovo Y50 which also has an Nvidia 860m (IIRC) which does not appear in the list of PCI devices so I must have disabled it in the BIOS or it is no longer working. This may be related to offscreen-effect painting which is now used for the menu and panel etc. Can you please: 1. Run 'lspci -k > pci.txt' and send us the resulting file 'pci.txt'. 2.
