No problem. This bug will stay open for 60 days. If you haven't tried it
after that then it will close automatically.

[Bug 1877712] Re: Severe performance degradation in Gnome Shell after upgrade to 20.04

2020-05-11 Thread Vadim Peretokin
Sorry, that's not really practical to do on a production system.

That said, the issue could have been because there wasn't enough disk
space. Clearing it up and rebooting seems to have solved things. This is
a change in behaviour from previous Ubuntu releases.

[Bug 1877712] Re: Severe performance degradation in Gnome Shell after upgrade to 20.04

2020-05-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please uninstall ALL of these extensions and then reboot:

'user-th...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'openweather-
extens...@jenslody.de', 'update-extensi...@franglais125.gmail.com',
'powerindica...@germain.louis.80.gmail.com', 'auto-move-windows@gnome-
shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'horizontal-workspaces@gnome-
shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'launch-new-instance@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'drive-menu@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'screenshot-window-sizer@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'clipboard-indica...@tudmotu.com',
'remmina-search-provi...@alexmurray.github.com',
'vit...@corecoding.com', 'appindicatorsupp...@rgcjonas.gmail.com',
'zorin-appindica...@zorinos.com',
'easyscreenc...@iacopodeenosee.gmail.com', 'workspace-indicator@gnome-
shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'windowsNavigator@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'workr...@workrave.org'

We need to start with that because extensions cause so many bugs, and
particularly cause degraded performance in 20.04.

The log file is absolutely flooded with errors like:

May 9 08:53:48 volga gnome-shell[3395]: Attempting to call back into JSAPI
during the sweeping phase of GC. This is most likely caused by not destroying a
Clutter actor or Gtk+ widget with ::destroy signals connected, but can also be
caused by using the destroy(), dispose(), or remove() vfuncs. Because it would
crash the application, it has been blocked and the JS callback not invoked.
