I don't think the originator of this question was "stupid" at all and the use of such derogatory language is unprofessional. Just because Mr Trefny hasn't experienced this problem does NOT mean that it is non- existent. I have FREQUENTLY found that applications which launch automatically upon login and minimise into the system tray will sometimes be missing from the tray when the user logs on. The applications which I have found doing this so far are easycrypt, amsn and skype They are all running but their GUI cannot be accessed as the icons just aren't there. Repeated shutdowns don't fix the problem. The icons MIGHT come back one day but there is never a guarantee. This problem has occurred on my machine a number of times over the past few months and it is quite disruptive. This may be an issue with the applications themselves, but when three applications disappear from the systray simultaneously I'd be thinking that Gnome is where the problem arises. Update. This problem appears to be the System Notification applet failing to display on the panel. When I lost icons again today I re-added the Notification area. (right-click, select add to panel, under utilities select the notification area and click add.) Programs do run when they are minimized ( I have a sound lprogram that I know is running) but I cannot retrieve it. If I am working in open office word, and I minimize that all my work disappears. When I reopen Word all my work is gone. If I play a game (for example FreeCell) and minimize that it disappears. When I reopen the game my game is gone, and a new one appears. I am having other problems too, such as icons being placed on the tray that I did not place there. I have a network connection icon on the top tray, and the bottom tray. Sometime the mouse arrow "sticks" to a card in freecell. It is a mystery to me with everything that is happening. I am not a computer novice! Thanks for trying to answer my "Very stupid question." I don't think the originator of this question was "stupid" at all and the use of such derogatory language is unprofessional. Just because Mr Trefny hasn't experienced this problem does NOT mean that it is non- existent. I have FREQUENTLY found that applications which launch automatically upon login and minimise into the system tray will sometimes be missing from the tray when the user logs on. The applications which I have found doing this so far are easycrypt, amsn and skype They are all running but their GUI cannot be accessed as the icons just aren't there. Repeated shutdowns don't fix the problem. The icons MIGHT come back one day but there is never a guarantee. This problem has occurred on my machine a number of times over the past few months and it is quite disruptive. This may be an issue with the applications themselves, but when three applications disappear from the systray simultaneously I'd be thinking that Gnome is where the problem arises. Update. This problem appears to be the System Notification applet failing to display on the panel. When I lost icons again today I re-added the Notification area. (right-click, select add to panel, under utilities select the notification area and click add.) Dear Vojtěch Trefný ; I have tried to add the Systray (Notification List), but it will not let me. Programs do run when they are minimized ( I have a sound lprogram that I know is running) but I cannot retrieve it. If I am working in open office word, and I minimize that all my work disappears. When I reopen Word all my work is gone. If I play a game (for example FreeCell) and minimize that it disappears. When I reopen the game my game is gone, and a new one appears. I am having other problems too, such as icons being placed on the tray that I did not place there. I have a network connection icon on the top tray, and the bottom tray. Sometime the mouse arrow "sticks" to a card in freecell. It is a mystery to me with everything that is happening. I am not a computer novice! Thanks for trying to answer my "Very stupid question."
