I just upgraded from 20.4 LTS today and have the exact same problem.I have an HP Pavilion desktop and an external monitor (unknown video card). I don't know if the following is related but I made settings according to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1968040 I added this option: MUTTER_DEBUG_ENABLE_ATOMIC_KMS=0 to /etc/environment Now both screens don't turn off - the internal screen and the external screen.
