Workaround that worked for me: Comment out the section for your device
in /usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/10osvendor/20-libgphoto2.fdi

Seems like libgphoto2 would handle the device if the player is in mtp
mode, but not in usb-mass-storage mode. Is there a way it could detect
this automatically?
