The main issue is that I still wasn't able to reproduce it locally. I am kinda new to linux, but why hasent this been fixed yet.? shouldent it be something that would be rather easy to fix with an official update, so we dont have to hunt the internet for all kinds of alpha and beta stuff.? The same problem. I upgraded from 23.10 to 24.04 only yesterday and my Nautilus has always been generating thumbnails for me perfectly fine, but I've been having broken thumbnails in the Gnome Settings app - on the panel for changing the wallpaper. And, yes, it were the wallpaper thumbnails that were broken. The point is that all of that was also resulting in hundreds of files being generated under ~/.cache/thumbnails/fail - even if I kept on deleting that directory. What ended up helping me is adding to /etc/environment the line: GSK_RENDERER=gl Then either restart or execute: sudo systemctl restart gdm.service After I did that, the wallpaper thumbnails appeared fine in the Gnome Settings app and it magically fixed another rendering issue that I've been experiencing. The directory ~/.cache/thumbnails/fail kept reappearing, but now, instead of constantly re-creating hundreds of files in it, only a single file is being re-created. Weird. But I suppose, in this case, one is hundreds of times better than hundreds. Perhaps this would help others as a work-around - or as a hint toward fix this one. Thanks. That version should have the nautilus profile that makes the thumbnails appear, so we will need to dig a bit deeper. Could you paste the results of the following command? This will show us if there is a profile for nautilus loaded and it should look something like this $ sudo aa-status --filter.profile=nautilus apparmor module is loaded. 178 profiles are loaded. 0 profiles are in enforce mode. 0 profiles are in complain mode. 0 profiles are in prompt mode. 0 profiles are in kill mode. 1 profiles are in unconfined mode. nautilus 19 processes have profiles defined. 0 processes are in enforce mode. 0 processes are in complain mode. 0 processes are in prompt mode. 0 processes are in kill mode. 0 processes are unconfined but have a profile defined. 0 processes are in mixed mode.
