[Bug 237647] Re: After removing fast-user-switch-applet when a newly created user logs in an exception is thrown immediately
Thank you for your bug report. That's not a gnome-applets bug though, the gnome-panel default configuration is static and is adapted to the ubuntu installation, you have to change the profile you are using if you decide to uninstall something which is listed ** Changed in: gnome-applets (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low Assignee: (unassigned) = Ubuntu Desktop Bugs (desktop-bugs) Status: New = Invalid -- After removing fast-user-switch-applet when a newly created user logs in an exception is thrown immediately https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237647 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 237647] Re: After removing fast-user-switch-applet when a newly created user logs in an exception is thrown immediately
Hello, Finally I've figured out a workaround, but this is really just a workaround. 1. Delete the following lines from the !-- List of applets -- section in the /usr/share/gconf/defaults/05_panel-default-setup.entries file value stringfast_user_switch/string /value 2. run update-gconf-defaults This will regenerate the gconf default file which is used to create the default desktop. However the proper solution is much more complex then that. The way it is right now is actually quite incorrect since the gnome-panel-data package does not depend on the fast-user-switch-applet and yet it does in a way because of the content of the default and schema files. One solution can be to eliminate the fast_user_switch_applet section and values from the gnome-panel-data package. More precisely from these files: /usr/share/gconf/defaults/05_panel-default-setup.entries /etc/gconf/schemas/panel-default-setup.entries And add them to the fast_user_switch applet package instead. When that is installed it would need to add itself to the above mentioned files. I know it is a hassle and lot of scripting, yet something would need to be done. I understand that this is not a high priority issue, yet I'd like to start navigating towards some sort of resolution. I'd really appreciate if someone could point me to the right direction. What shall be the next step? Hi Dereck, Thanks for the quick reply. These are the steps to reproduce the bug: 1. Install default Ubuntu desktop 2. Remove the fast-user-switch-applet package 3. Create new user 4. Login with new user to the desktop And you should see the error message.
