I have had the same problem on several occasions. It doesn't happen all the time, but enough to be annoying. Today I couldn't get any of the songs to play. When I turned my laptop back on tonight and went to Rhytmbox the songs started first ti me I clicked on it. They were imported from an original CD to my library using Rythmbox. I also run Hardy Heron 8.04 with kernel version 2.6.24.19. My laptop is an Toshiba A75-s209. -- rhythmbox : does not play the songs at times. Can you confirm whether the Rhythmbox is not able to play the songs after some other player was started or some media was played in the browser prior to trying the Rhythmbox? Can you also try changing the Music and Videos option in System Preferences Sounds to ALSA and verify whether the problem persists? I do have the same problem when i use rhythmbox. I don't know if it's relevant but my sound also stopped in Pidgin. And also YouTube videos do not play. I have the same problem all the time. I open Rhythmbox and it just won't play any songs at all. I run Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron on my Acer Aspire and my kernel version is 2.6.24-19-generic. Thank you for taking your time to file the bug and help make Ubuntu better. Is this problem only with Rhythmbox, and for all song files you have? Does the song file(s) play in any other music player (like Banshee, Amarok)? Does other types of media files play sound, like video files in a video player (like totem) or videos inside a browser?
